Florida, New York is also known for bored police and lots of speed traps. Not pleasant, IMO.

Stamford, Connecticut is actually a nice town. The Stepford Wives was written about it. The movie was filmed next door in New Canaan, Connecticut, though.

Also, the "Civil War" spiderman comic series takes place in a futuristic Stamford. In one issue, the sign of a comic shop called "A Timeless Journey" is seen in the wreckage. That shop actually exists on Summer Street in Stamford and the sign actually looks like that. I've been in there to buy baseball cards.

We can't Forget New York, New York, but that requires no explaining.9.gif

Well in a recent study, Colorodo Springs and Boulder Colorodo were rated as the best places to live in the US.

I would have to agree, lots of friendly folk around there, pretty mountains and everything you would need is close by.

well, what can I say Memphis, TN. It has been named the most wished place to live. Also, it is home of Fed Ex, Autozone, Elvis, St Jude research hospital, BBQ, BB King and much more.

I might be wrong, but the topic was "Best Towns in America". There has already been a topic of Best Cities. I believe they are looking for towns.

cooperstown new york, and the surrounding areas.

i wish i lived there.

its got it all good views, stuff to do, history and water. the only downside is the number of tourists, but then again, cooperstown would be nothing without tourists lol

also portland maine.

its the perfect city.

it doesnt have huge sky scrapers, but it does have a good number of 20+ story buildings. There is very little crime and it is known as the green city around new england.

Atlanta, GA!

Reasons why to like Atlanta:

*Crime is going down

*Downtown is not too dense

*Nightlife is great

*Southern Culture still exists

*Great restaurants in Midtown and Downtown and all over the city.

*A sport city

*Great hotels and attractions

*Transportation ain't really bad

*Atlanta really have good colleges and university

*A modern city and at the same time still "southern"

*A cheap place to leave in

*Buckhead - a suburban community yet, you still feel like you're in a big city.

------

Another city is: Anaheim, CA

Reasons:

*Disneyland California

*California Adventure

*A sport city

*Knott's berry farm is near by

*An hour away from Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA

*Los Angeles is only 30-40 mins away.

*Anaheim, is not a suburb of Los Angeles

*Home to the Anaheim Angels and the Mighty Ducks

*A WWE favorite

*Just about 15 mins away to Newport and Huntington beach.

*Hell, you're in Orange County!

*Regular Climate

*only an hour or so away from San Diego

*2 - 2 1/2 hours to Vegas

*Crime is down

*and much more.

Just as a note, personally I don't like Anaheim all that much. Very gritty and congested, and Disneyland is far over rated. And also I'm not just talking about the areas around Disneyland.

For a small town Benicia, California is very nice. It's a one-street town, with many unique and appealing shops lying along First street. During the summer they hold a weekly farmers market where it seems everyone knows everyone else, and they're all very friendly to new comers. Very supportive of small buisnesses and groups. Excellent education. Great little commuter town. Right on the water so you can do watersports, plus it doesn't get very hot at all. And the west side of the strait it's on is undeveloped, leaves a nice view. Has it's own industrial park as well. Crime is also very low. Median income is quite high if I recall correctly, it's known for being a rich town. The only drawback is housing is also high. Not famous for much, named after the wife of General Mariano Vallejo (and Vallejo is the main city right next door to it), and was the state capital for a time.

Globe/Miami, AZ:

I've only been through the area once, but I'll never forget it...they were amazingly scenic and very quaint. The main drag through Globe is surrounded by the hills that the town melts into. I got a good half an hour look at it...I was stunned, to say the least! In fact, many of the smaller towns in Arizona are quite nice. Like Prescott...

Las Vegas, NV:

Bias alert! I'm sorry, I lived here for the first 12 or so years of my life. It's known for the strip, which is awesome (even though the strip isn't in the city limits...), but believe me, that's not the sole reason that it was the fastest growing metro area in the last decade. Not only is the weather nice all year long(okay, it gets hot, but unlike Houston, if it says it's going to be 100 degrees, it'll actually be 100 degrees!), you can do anything in or around Vegas: you can ski, you can hang glide, sky dive, take tours to see Hoover Dam or the Grand Canyon, hike, see the Thunderbirds at Nellis A. F. B., study up on the city's history (which is very intersting, actually...to me, anyways), watch a Nascar Race...or, of course, just walk up and down the strip. It's a very livable place, as well, although prices have skyrocketed in recent years due to the growth. Speaking of which, they're planning to totally revamping downtown. From what I know, they're putting in gigantic condos and residence towers (and if I read the website correctly, that includes one thats over 900 ft tall, which is big news in Vegas, which isn't known for it's gigantic skyscrapers...). So yeah, those are my picks...and yes, I know that it isn't exactly a "town", but hey, if New York and Chicago can appear here, so can Vegas!

Anybody's ever been to San Angelo, TX ?

Hopefully I will be going to TX this year and the place seems to deserve a couple of days stop...

What about Dallas-Fort Worth ? Austin (looks great too) ? San Antonio ?

Im gonna say Sandusky, Ohio.  Mainly because it is home to Cedar Point, and also the birthplace of Thomas Edison!  Although the Maintenance of the town it self can use a little touch ups.

I love Boston...it has a really American feel to it and there is so much to do. I am also NOT a Red Socks fan (Go Mets!).

I live outside of Hartford, CT, and although there is a lot of crime, I still love my little metropolis.

Holy crap! I didn't realize someone lived so close to me, only an hour away!

Anyway, my favorite city is Minneapolis. I've been going there every year since I was born so i know that place pretty well. The only thing I don't like about that place is the new museum(forgot the name of it. It's the big blue one.) that's in downtown. It sticks out like a sore thumb, and inside(although nice) is way to much open space.
