I am sorry to hear that viruses have gotten you again. You do such great work; it is a shame to see some lost. I have just gotten back from NYC (first time in 9 years), so I am glad to see this thread active again. Best wishes in getting it all straightened back out.

    Thanks Schulmanator.

I updated the the broken links for the downloads so everyone should be able to download buildings that you haven't been able to get in a while.

I also checked the files for 67 Mott Street and it should have all the files necessary, they're aren't any dependcies needed for it.

    *Blows dust off of thread*

    Hey all!

Just dropping by to announce Sony Tower has finally been released on my blog. For all those people who have been waiting (for a very long year) you can download it finally. 1.gif

As for updates I'm busy with RL, NY BAT Team duties and of course preparing for the movers to come in about a week from now. (I'm moving for all those who don't know) No major updates for a little while.

    Until then enjoy Sony Tower!

    Salut!

Great journal Hanson, im pretty new to the game (2 weeks!) and it's quite amazing how dedicated some people are at making the most accurate recreations of cities in real life! New York is a tough task, but i can only imagine the nightmare of recreating Boston's twisty roadways! Anyway, I just went through the whole thread, and i was just wondering, where can i get access to download all your BATs?

Also, it seems that the thread is not as active as before but is it possible you can give us an updated regional shot of NYC?

Again, awesome job! I hope you'll continue your work and i look forward for updates! =]

    *cheers*

Well, it's been a long time and it's about time for an update. First replies:

masi_23, Welcome. Boston was difficult to recreate, especially with the Big Dig and the spagetthi like network of streets (I should more pictures of that region as I've done in a bit of work on the downtown area) Even though New York is bigger than Boston, it's easier to lay the streets out in NY, even Queens is easier to lay out than Boston.

    crazychickensc12, Thanks, coming right up.

Today (tonight on this side of the globe) we'll begin out look at New York nostolgia series, looking at the city in the past starting with today... our at least spring 2009 to 1996.

Fifth Avenue and 89th Street, 1998

Finally, here's a shot of my latest progress with Midtown, thanks to the talented BATer's of the NYBAT team:

Next time we'll take a look back to the late 70's next time.

Great update Hanson! I can't wait to see one about the Financial District! I'm sure it's looking more complete thanks to NYBT. Ya know, this CJ of yours and your website inspired me to make NY buildings.2.gif So thank you.

Whoah, I just noticed a BAT that hasn't been released in there(well, two actually) I see the Seagram building, but it's not the one done by XDesign or that other guy. Holding out on us huh? Lol just joking great update. I finally see a closer pic of that BAT you and me was talking about a while back, 520 Madison Ave.(?) that red building in the photo. It looks good, but I think it could be improved.

PBGV, I was worried about 345 Park Ave not fitting. You've noticed I had to do some reconfiguring of streets to fit in some buildings. How big is it? 4x6?

One Liberty is about to have the finishing props put in place in the Lot Editor. Planning on releasing this week.

345 is actually the same as the waldorf by desimcity, so it's 4x8. : / It fits fine in my NYC! Maybe you should resize everything you've been working on for the past several years? and then the former Bear Stearns HQ would fit on the correct side of PA! hahaha just kidding, that would take FOREVER 3.gif but you might have a lot of trouble fiting things in your map in the future : / by the way, everything I've been making is scaled so .01 miles according to google earth equals the length of one sc4 tile. I'm pretty sure thats the way xdesign and desimcity scaled things as well. Do you think we should come up with a standard scale for the NYBT?

I can't wait for One Liberty Plaza! It will fill a huge void in my downtown 9.gif

You can change the unit that the measure tool uses in Google Earth. So you can measure in meters. A SC4 tile is 16x16 meters.

Lot sizes are actually very straightforward unless you run into the situation where things are, say, 3.5 tiles wide. You would probably need to make it 4 tiles wide, and then you have to choose whether or not, or how much to scale the building to fit the lot. Diagonal roads are a different story though.

I really like how the cars in the pictures accurately fit the years. Sure hope that holds true for the 70's pics as well. 9.gif

for everybody who wants the 6 lane avenues and 3 lane one way roads download NAM's Network Widening Mod it gives you 3 Lane One way and the Medianless 6 avenue NOTE: the 6 lane avenue with median won't be on v1.0 but confirmed for v2.0 (just maybe)

find it on SC4Devotion and(or) Simtropolis search NWM or google it

you need the NAM May 2010 and RHW 4.0

    x(x-10)=7[sin(666x]

The Network Addon Mod for SC13 is now out! Download here.

    I'm back with another update.

Sorry it's been a such a long time since I've done any update but graduating from college, job hunting and planning my big move to New York later this year took priority.

For those still wondering my 3 lane avenues and roads were photshopped to more accurately portray the streets of the city. Now I'm working on trying to get the Network Widening Mod to work so I can put my photoshopping days behind me. Unfortunatley, it still isn't working because of conflicts with other transit plugins which I need to hunt down in my enourmous plugins folder. Hopefully I can get it working soon.

Anyway, today we'll take a look at how the project is coming along. First an an overview of the region map. It's coming along slowly but surely.

So far Manhattan and Staten Island are finished (in terms of street layout at least)The Bronx seems like the next borough which will be completed as it's already halfway done. Brooklyn and Queens still have a way to go

    simnyc2.png

Ignore the brown boxes. Those appeared after my computer crashed last year and I still haven't gotten around to finding the missing files. You'll also notice Central Park is getting a more realistic makeover. I'm swithcing over from Maxis' trees to CP's ploppable trees and I'm also using ploppable water for the man made bodies of water in Central Park (which went missing in regionview for some reason)

Midtown has also undergone a makeover too. I had to demolish everything west of 2nd Avenue due to the scale of the streets being out of scale with some of the BAT's. It looks much more accurate now, expecpt for 30 Rock which is blocking Fifth Avenue. Still need to decide if I should re-lot it to fit properly on the map.

    midtown.png

Lower Manhattan is really taking shape due to the great creations the NYBAT team has been making. (I still need to start my own thread there for my creations as well2.gif)

    lowermanhattan.png

And some quick closeups as usual. Somewhere on the streets of SoHo

    soholofts.png

A shot of the Ed Sullivan Building from about 3 years ago which I never got around showing (until now)

    edsullivantheateryv6.png

And a shot of traffic on the Queensboro Bridge

    queensborobridge.png

Finally, I'm leaving to visit New York tommorrow and will be there for a week doing some field BATing research. 1.gif
