Wow it only goes up to 180th. I can still see where my street is I used to live on East Tremont (Castle Hill) But you really detailed the work of midtown. Grand Central Station. Vanderbilt Avenue around Grand Central Station. Not many NYC CJ'rs include Vanderbilt Avenue. In fact, your first one. On top. The Crysler Building is on the exact location. 42nd between Lexington and 3rd Avs. Great work!!! I'm loving this.

Ky72x, Yes, doesn’t it look good. Gizmo did a great job with it.

Godzillaman, Thanks. New York looks good at night.

allez l'om, Thanks. Glad you like it.

Almighty Nienaber, Welcome back. Yep. This is one of the slower CJ’s in terms of updates. I’ve been updating it slowly about once or twice a month. It’s a lot of work but I try to show something every month.

Jacqulina, Thanks. Everyone love the night pictures. Maybe I’ll do more in the future.

patriots_1228, Not if you don’t have Sketchup Pro. Lol  Sure. I have some small buildings and monuments that I might send you.

bbfan02, Thanks. MSG looks good in the day but it really looks great at night. Andisart did a nice job with the lighting.

    crazyarchitect, Thanks and welcome back.

    JDRCRASH, Thanks.

Your on Skyscraperpage too? I haven’t posted in a long time. Maybe I’ll add something to the New York diagram. We’ll see.

    Wir3d, Thanks and welcome.

Gabry85, Thanks. The night mod is a hit.

st louis dude, Thanks. From the STEX yeah, but from what’s not online (or a pre made 3D model) I can make myself. Though, there’s so many buildings to make.

Lucky7, Thanks lucky. BTW, I like the new avatar.

SimRabbit, Thanks. The mod is so good it almost looks photo realistic.

st louis dude, I’m not sure I understand your question. The Maxis map had Manhattan connected to the Bronx which is inaccurate. There’s a small inlet (the Harlem River) separating the two boroughs.

For your post on the second page my secret is persistence and patience. I think that’s what you’re asking. I guess those are two of my main secrets.

SimCity is also a hobby of mine so I work on it during my free time.

    jim5917, Thanks Jim and welcome.

Markus J, Welcome back. Yep, I have been quite a busy boy since your last visit. It’s will look great once its done (if I ever do get done). Like a whole new game or some New York expansion pack that was never made.

    Twenty20, Welcome and thank you.

Simtastico, Welcome. Some people find it fun to destroy their city when they get bored with it and make it go out with a bang. It’s the Jerry Brukchiemer gene I guess. Lol

Anarchy0029, Welcome. Thanks I guess my CJ is one of the most detailed one for New York.

You live in the Bronx? My dad grew up in the Bronx on 166th near the Grand Concourse.

We’ll I’m back with some a look behind the scenes at what’s been going on these past few weeks.

I haven’t had much time to update the CJ because of schoolwork and RL. Not much has happened with the region. Although, I did find time here and there to BAT a little bit and start on my car props which I’m planning to release in a months or two.

Spring Break is the last week of March so I’ll have a week to work on the project. Be on the look out for updates around that time.

I might even show a sneak peak at my other cities I’m recreating: San Francisco, Washington D.C., Chicago and Boston. Be sure to look out for that also.

Finally, I finished my tutorial on how to convert Sketchup models into 3DS using Blender. Though, I recommend becoming a bit familiar with Blender first if you’re new to 3D modeling because the interface can be confusing and you’ll want to get the basics of Blender down. Download your copy and enj

Those buildings and cars look awesome, I simply cannot wait to see more progress on them. But like always, I'm all for those vehicles! 3.gif Again, really nice job on them. I like how you've made a pretty wide variety in them, from makes and eras in which they were made. For each car, how many colors are you going to give them? From the preview, it looks like about 2 to 4, but I think I'd like to see more. Either way, I'm very pleased with how they look. 9.gif

Keep it up, I'm definitely very anxious to see more!

Wow, Elliot, great projects to come! Excellent models of the buildings, I like them very much and can't wait to see the BATs! And I have to point out that you are the only one (currently) who's doing NYC BATs which I honour very much. 'cause I really appreciate the effort and time you've been putting into this!!!

Yes, the avatar: it's my dog, 'Aliki'. A crossbreed between a Spanish Calgo (windhound) and a German Shephard- off- topic.

So, I am looking very much forward to more of your great project,

    take care,

It's been a while but now I’m back. I had to use the search function to find my CJ.

The semester is finally over and I can continue with my CJ. Papers and projects have been keeping me busy for my urban planning classes, but now can spend more time on my CJ… well soon it might be CJ’s.

I mentioned to some on the forum in addition to recreating New York. I’m also recreating Boston, San Francisco, Chicago and Washington D.C. I’ll show a teaser of Chicago tonight.

But first I have to reply to questions and comments before they gather even more dust. (Sorry to all. I’ve been attending to school and RL for the past couple of weeks)

ky72x, Thanks. I right now I’m only making one color for each car but in the near future I’ll release different colors. BTW, I exported the Town Car and an 03 Infiniti G35 but there's a problem with the LOD's with both that needs to be fixed.

allez l'om, Thanks, glad you like them too. I have some interesting info coming up about NYC cabs in a future update.

wir3d, welcome and thank you also.

Lucky7, Thanks. The buildings will be done sometime either this month or next. Sony Tower is closer to being finished but there’s still some work to be done on the Citigroup Center. Your CJ coming along nicely BTW.

    Wrightguy0, I know. I’m retexturing it.

Yoman3, Conde Nast is coming along. Had to put it hold though since I have so many BAT’s going at once. I want to do One Bryant Park but I might try to BAT it this Summer It’s a prominent, unique building in the skyline so it’s on my to do list. (Unless someone else is going to BAT it)

Almighty Nienaber, Welcome. I plan on uploading two cars this week: The Town Car and an 03 Infiniti G35 (otherwise known as the Nissan Skyline for some people).

?avi?, Thanks and welcome. Don’t worry I am.

Steven77571, Welcome. Not much has changed in Lower Manhattan since I last updated. In fact, not much has changed within the entire region due to school and RL. But that will change now that it’s summer.

The Big Z, Thanks and welcome too. I have a ton of 3ds models of both buildings and cars I’ve been collecting for the past year or so. I think the folder is takes up as much space as my plugin folder. Lol

patriots_1228, Yep. Actually, Boston is easier to recreate compared to New York. I do have all those windy roads but the city isn’t as dense as New York so that makes it easier. I haven’t really updated the region in a year, but I’ll show a teaser pic soon of downtown.

Jacqulina, I’ll have some night pictures this week.

suplado!, thanks glad you like them. They add an extra layer of realism to the pictures.

Alright, now on to the update. I have a small update today. (I would’ve had a longer one but I was studying and taking finals all last week.)

First we’ll go slightly off topic by going to Chicago for just a second. I’m still not sure if I’ll make my other recreations into mini CJ’s in one topic or have separate topics for them each. Here’s a quick shot of the Water Tower at the corner of Michigan and Chicago Avenue.

    chicagowatertower2hw4.jpg

But Chi-Town is for another time and another thread.

Back in New York at Washington Square Park on a sunny spring day.

    washingtonsquareparkzr7.jpg

Heading Uptown we find ourselves outside of The Guggenheim Museum on Fifth Avenue.

Five years and running! Great job!
If you can, try to get those orange steam things in the middle of roads(sorry, I don't know what they're called). Don't forget Battery Park, and that statue in Battery Park, as another memorial to 9/11.

vailo, Thanks. I can’t believe it’s been five years already. I think the anniversary date passed… don’t remember what day I started on but it was early 2003. I’ll create a special update for five years.

Thanks. I downloaded the steam pipes from the STEX and I’ll release The Sphere on 9/11

Jacqulina, Thanks. Sorry for the delay, the night shots are finally here.

Gabry85, Thanks. Glad you enjoy the transportation view. It took a long time to layout all those streets.

Schulmanator, Thanks. I like the taxis too. I’ll put up a special, and also informative, post on my blog about those famous taxis.

BTW, I like the new avatar. Did you make it?

Shingure, Thanks. Yep sometimes things are (made?) more confusing than they should be.

I finally finished with the semester and am off for the summer. Though, I didn’t have time to update my CJ because I’ve been job-hunting for the past couple of weeks for internships. I was interviewed at an internationally known game company, which was exciting to see behind the scenes (I’m not sure I can say much about it because of the non-disclosure agreement), but I didn’t get the position. There‘s always other jobs out there. If you’re interested to hear about my experience send me a PM.

Alright, I‘m overdue for an update. Everyone enjoyed the night shots I posted a while ago so by popular demand they’re back. Today we’ll look at New York in the making at night.

St. Mark's Church in the Bowery at night in the East Village

Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village

Finally, I’ll show a sneak peak of Boston.

Here’s a close up in my typical fashion of Congress Street and North Street or, otherwise known as Faneuil Hall Marketplace. This is one of Boston’s top tourist destinations.

An overview of Downtown Boston and surrounding areas.

I’ll have more shots when I get around to making my Boston recreation its own CJ. Boston in a New York CJ? Sacrilegious!3.gif

    More (New York) next time.

O no, thats my turf bro.....lol, just kidding. I love this idea Hanson, and I know you will do well. Very bold of you to start with downtown, I decided to work in southie and make my way up. I love your rendition for the most part, and i think you did a good job mixing my old pru buildings and my new pru buildings to make the complex. Im actually working on a full version in MAX at the moment.

    Just a couple suggestions:

Beacon Hill is actually located north, or from this orientation, west, of the public garden, where the state house is. That area you labeled is the back bay. Copley square, not coopley 3.gif The big highway running through the center of the downtown was demolished in the beggining of the decade and replaced with the Rose Kennedy Greenway, or the highlight of the Big Dig. I also think your map might be a little messed up. The downtown "mitt" looks tiny, and the hancock is literally on the Fort Point Channel.

I look forward to seeing more of this and New York Hanson!
