I am going to be recreating the city of Christchurch over the next year or so. After seeing two very good recreations (Edmonton and Omaha by the JerseyDevil73 and Mr. Beer) I have decided to do my own. I will post some pics of what I have done so far after school.

I am using the Christchurch map by Cirugo but have modified it so it is more accurate. I will also post Google Earth and camera pics from time to time to show you how realistic my recreation is. It has begun!

tompadom -

Hey - that map looks amazing! I think real-life recreations are hard, but very worthwhile when they are done well. can't wait to see how yours develops! Good luck!

Well I just got back from an abnormal day at school. Beautiful clear sky in the morning when I woke up. Then the clouds came from the south. And they bought snow. However it was sunny again at noon but as I walked home it started hailing. Living near the Antarctic and a large mountain range, we have strange winter weather. However here are some Google pics of the area I have started working on.

Aranui is one of the only Maori suburbs left in Christchurch. The maori are the indegenious people of New Zealand.

This is the Bromley Sewage Plant, the largest in Christchurch. Recreating this in SimCity will be difficult.
I will be showing pics of the work I have done so far soon, either today or tomorrow.

Rule 1: Never Trust a Southerly. They bite pretty hard in winter, as I'm sure you now know! 2.gif

I'll be keeping a keen eye on your progress here Tom, and not just to make sure you put my parent's home in the right place! Getting the right look to 'the most English city outside of England' is going to be a challenge.

One more thing - calling Aranui a 'Maori suburb' is going a bit far. It does have a Maori name, but its populace is definately not exclusively Maori. May just be a wording issue you need to clear up before you visit Mairehau, Papanui, Rapaki, or Kaiapoi 1.gif

Still, good luck to you! I look forward to seeing what SimChCh looks like!

Joe90 I am sorry if I offended anyone by saying that about Aranui, I guess it is quite stereotypical me saying that. Also where do your parents live? I myself live in Huntsbury, a suburb on the hill.

No offence taken Tom, just a point that those not familiar with NZ may end up thinking we keep all the Maori in one place!

My folks are in Redwood, at the northern end of town. Have you been properly snowed in up there yet?

Wow, I hope this is very close to accurate. Can't wait for further development, like others said too.

Well I have a little problem. Let me explain: the map I was using to do my streets was not scale accurate. I will have to redo the area I have shown you and will tell you when I am done.

Mr. Beer: It is very hard, many streets on strange angles, and I don't even want to think about Cashmere 28.gif

I have found an accurate set of maps from the net and will be using them through the course of this CJ. Here is the area I have redone.
