1. A red rotating beacon light is now visible on the top of the aircraft
2. Navigation and communication antennae have been added
3. The 747-400 has a longer upper deck than the 747-100
4. The 747-400's engines differ from the 747-100's engines
5. The 747-400 has winglets
6. The fuselage appears wider and taller than in the 747-100.

Sadly, the 747-400, as of March 15, is no longer produced.  Yesterday, I visited the Boeing factory.  I didn't see any 747 aircraft under construction, but neither did they tell me that they stopped contsructing the -400.  Its replacement aircraft are the Boeing 777-300ER (which I'm currently BATting) and the 747-8.  Best wishes to the current 747-400s in service.

Lol, I doubt I'll get this right but why the hell not?

744 has a longer upper deck with lots more windows 3.gif

The 744 has more powerful and newer engines that look different.

The 747-400 has winglets (duh3.gif)

The 744 has all the sensors and crap on the roof.

And the wing root appears to be much smaller.

I doubt I got it right though 3.gif

Can't believe pilot missed this one, the whole plane in total is longer 3.gif

You oughta just stick an unfinished texture with the windows and crap with the 3ds model, and put it up on the STEX

its nice you'll let a few people request textures, and its doubtful anyone else will turn out really good ones like you, but maybe by making the model available it would be a great deal for CJ'ers

Thanks ACE, you are great!

Oh I love this contest!  As a planespotter for some time (someone think I'm a geek...what are they thinking?) I hope I can spot the differences...

1. 'antenna' vs. winglets at the tip of the wings
2. length of the upper deck - 747's upper deck was lengthened since -300
3. number of windows on the upper deck - 100s have only three, 200s have a row (10 or so), 300s and 400s have two rows with a door in the middle
4. the door on the upper deck - right behind *****pit for 100, in the middle for 400
5. engines - early ones have three segments and a cone-like end, recent ones have two segments
6. the 'centre area' of the wings - it's not bent for the 400

Got a picture here to illustrate below -

Hope I got them right 3.gif

Your freedom is the most expensive thing you have, even if you arn't the one that paid for it... Use it well.

Getting closer!

owen: 5 of 6

F18bkr: 4 of 6

kinmulder: 5 of 6 (see fourth hint)

new hint: there are only two major dimensional changes. One has been noted by every poster, the other has not been mentioned yet.

hamster, bourneid: These contests are just for airlines going into the pack... later on, after public release I'll set up a small group to get established CJers their one-off liveries. There are seventeen reference templates I use, containing hundreds of layers -- not sure how that's going to work yet.

Due to the page flip, here are more links to the Contest 1 images:

Aer Lingus 747-100

Virgin Atlantic 747-400

I'd really like to thank all you people that do bats, without you my cities would be really ugly and dull. Ace, I think you're doing a great job, and your airport pack is by far the greatest on the Stex, really creative, and nice architecture (I like the realistic colours). There's just one thing that could make it really perfect, it doesn't seem to work as an actual airport in the game (stats and all). I know nothing about bating or creating add ons, I don't have the time anyways, but I really woud like to know how to change the Terminal entrance (for instance), for it to become a real airport. I downloaded the SC Tools from Stex, but I don't have a clue how it works, or how to change the properties of Bats, if someone could help. Thanks again, and keep up the good work

When do you think the next release will be, Voltaire?

Also, when might the next RMIP one be?

functional airports are on the list of near-future Consortium projects drxav... though we are going in a different direction than the previous packs.

seahawkfan: 5 of 6

cameron: 4 of 6 (good for you, looking up the RL specs! but the first contest is about differences visible in the pics)

New hint: That second major change still hasn't been mentioned... may be time to put a ruler up to your screens and start measuring...

love the churchill Ill Tonkso... virgin atlantic was the hardest livery to do, but the color combination (and cheeky nose art) make it my favorite

I do have a question, When you make all the liveries, Will you be able to use all of them in the game or will we have to choose which ones we want? I heard fukuda is making a mod that lets you have more than one livery in your airport but I wasn't sure.

I have an idea for.. err.. what do you call them? Jetways

Anyway, the idea is to make a two storey jetway (technically taking the dual jetway and raising one slightly higher) so people can separately board the plane from the second floor door and the first floor doors of the plane, I know the 747's have stairs to the top, but this would make it look better.

Second idea: This will take a bit more time, but possibly make planes that look used, instead of stuff entirely brand new.

ilikehotdogsalot if these are being released as props like Ace says they are then using lot editor you should be able to create and seperate lot for each aircraft. Therefore you will be able to have every single type of aircraft with every single type of livery released by ace in your airport!

1. The 744 has a greater wingspan
-The Boeing 741, the 742 and the 743 have a wingspan of 195 feet and 8 inches.
-The Boeing 744 has a wingspan of 211 feet and 5 inches, which is 15 feet and 9 inches wider than the other 747's wingspans.
-The 748 will have a wingspan of 224 feet and 9 inches.

2. The 744 has winglets
-Out of all the 747s (including the 748), the 744 is the only 747 model with winglets.

3. The 744's upper deck is longer and has more windows
-The 741's upper deck has 3 windows on each side.  Later 741s were offerred with 10 windows on each side similar to the 742, when airlines began using the upper deck for seating.  A few early 742s were offered with 3 windows on each side, similar to the 741.
-The 744 was the second 747 in line to receive a "Stretched upper deck" (SUD), the 743 first recieving it.  The stretched upper deck is 23 feet and 4 inches longer than earlier variants.  The 743 and 744 have 18 windows on each side.

4. The 744 has newer, more efficient engines compared to the 741
-The 744 uses either the PW 4062, GE CF6-80C2B5F, or the RR RB211-524H engines.
-The 741 uses the older PW JT9D-7A, GE CF6-45A2, or RR RB211-524B2 engines.

5. The 744 has navigation and communication antennae and beacon lights added.

6. The 744 is taller than all other 747s
-The 744 is 63 feet and 8 inches tall, compared to 63 feet and 5 inches for older 747s and 63 geet 6 inches for the 748.

Seahawk: They actually are navigation and communication antennae.  The lights around the aircraft are beacon lights, strobe lights, landing and taxi lights, and the lights inside the airplane.  Also, the 744 has 18 windows on each side.  You must have miscounted.

Sorry, Yoman, but you forgot about the wingspan.  Also, the only 747 that is actually longer than all the other models is the 748.  The 744 is the same length as the 741.

ilikehotdogsalot: The mod fukuda is working on is for the default automata skins, not for the props that me and Ace are making.
ShadeSlayer: The upper deck on 747s are usually first class seats and lounges.  The A380 though could use a double-decked jetway.  Also about the used airplanes thing (for the 741) I'll have to agree with you.

And to Ace and Voltaire: Later 741s were made with ten windows on each side.  Have you kept that in mind?

I know it's for First Class, I've flown on 747's before, but still, it would look better if there was atleast one jetway going two stories; and the used thing, I'd personally think if Voltaire did things like adding dirt to Cessna's and other aging effects to old planes, it'd be awesome.
