Your making some very good progress!

I love that interchange, but it looks as though traffic can't get to the innerlanes of the uberavenue, is that done on purpose?

Love to see more! 40.gif40.gif40.gif40.gif

    aleking: Thanks and I agree.  Those corner rise lots are pretty nifty.  Warn me if I start to overuse them. 2.gif
    Traffic_Jam: Thanks so much!
    oroen: Thanks, gotta love the NAM.
    Shadow_Assassin: Thank you very much.  And looking back, I have to agree with you on this one.  I certainly think that downtown Brantley has some higher density buildings in its future...just now right now.  And so the following update sets to correct this matter. 11.gif
    jasperdeman.nl: I'm not exactly sure which interchange you're referring to, but if you're talking about where the Perimeter Connector merges with I-70, then it kind of was intentional.  Access had to be limited to some parts to keep the size of the interchange down.  But don't worry...all roads lead to somewhere! 9.gif

    Freak Accident Burns Downtown Brantley to the Ground

     Today was a sad and tragic day for Brantley.  The core of the beautiful hilltop city burned to the ground when a traffic pileup on Central Ave. caused an explosion.  The explosion ignited one the worst fires in Hemstead history.  The Meade County Fire Department was eventually able to put out the flames, but downtown was destroyed in the process.

    <ahttp://img222.echo.cx/img222/7751/16ag.jpg align=baseline>
    Flames begin to engulf Brantley's upscale Atlantic Plaza Condominiums.

    <ahttp://img222.echo.cx/img222/6177/22bl.jpg align=baseline>
    Flames eventually destroyed Brantley's residential tower and spread to the rest of the area's business district.

    <ahttp://img222.echo.cx/img222/6554/31dq.jpg align=baseline>
    I-70, I-265 and Lattica Highway were the only barriers that stopped the flames from engulfing the whole city.

    <ahttp://img222.echo.cx/img222/3153/49tm.jpg align=baseline>
    As Brantley begins to pick up its pieces, over 2,000 sims are without homes.  A massive cleanup is underway while planners begin to layout plans to rebuild the city.

    Haha! That was great! But I know that downtown will rise from the ashes 9.gif

    BTW, the area around the mall looks great with all the big box stores and restaurants 29.gif

    Keep up the good work! 44.gif

    newy2: Thanks!  And in typical Brantley fashion, the town's not going to let one disaster stop it.
    Shadow_Assassin: We'll see...this update may be a little controversial to those who detest urban sprawl.
    johnboy12: Thanks.  I hope so, too.
    jacqulina and alexr15: Brantley has certainly risen again...but with a little twist.
    Everyone: This update comes in two parts.  The second part will be posted shortly.
    _________________________________________________________________________________

    Brantley Rises From the Ashes

     <ahttp://img248.echo.cx/img248/733/12do.jpg align=baseline>
    After downtown Brantley was burned down, the only thing that left standing was the old Brantley Hill.  So planners decided to use that to their advantage.  The goal was to rebuild a different downtown; one with big city conveniences and small town charm.

    <ahttp://img248.echo.cx/img248/5973/20ag.jpg align=baseline>
    Construction eventually revealed a charming downtown in a park-like environment.  It was a monument to the Brantley that once stood.

    <ahttp://img248.echo.cx/img248/1308/37xh1.jpg align=baseline>
    Gone are the elegant condos and sky-high hotels.  Mid-rise lofts and office buildings are the story here.

    <ahttp://img248.echo.cx/img248/7553/49um.jpg align=baseline>
    Brantley Park is a great place for families to bring the kids to play.  Visitors can even enjoy the view of Meade County's gentle hills and the Chastain River.

    <ahttp://img248.echo.cx/img248/3510/59df.jpg align=baseline>
    A new elevated hillside sign welcomes sims home.  The reconstruction of downtown reminded sims that at heart, Brantley is a beautiful bedroom community, not the glamorous image of its former self.

    <ahttp://img248.echo.cx/img248/6635/61rl.jpg align=baseline>
    If you want majestic skyscrapers, take the 20-mile trip down to Lattica.

    <ahttp://img248.echo.cx/img248/1465/79st.jpg align=baseline>
    Brantley certainly rebounded after the fire, but it's not all roses.  The city's new image attracted hundreds of sims.  The sudden boom resulted in uncontrollable growth in Southwest Meade County.  Regulations are under review to stop this dangerous type of growth from persisting in the county.

    <ahttp://img248.echo.cx/img248/9074/89cx.jpg align=baseline>
    Clogged roadways were a byproduct of Brantley's sudden suburban boom.  West Meade Rd. had to be wided and new onramps had to be placed on I-70 and the Perimeter Connector.

    ____________________________________________________________________________________
    And in the next part of the update, we'll take a look at one of Meade County's more desirable communities.

    A fire's always a good excuse for a reconstruction... 10.gif

    More interesting ramp-age in the last picture. And I've never tried to put an elevated highway in a trench, but it actually looks quite nice in that third picture. I like the new mid-rise feel of Brantley.

    oroen: I considered using meteors but that may have been a bit too destructive. 18.gif  And thanks...I never knew sunken elevated highways would look that nice either.

    Amidst the row-houses, Wal-marts and 5-lane expressways, surely there must be a place that sims can truly call home...a tranquil community with quiet evening walks, room to play and a home to grow in.  In the fast-paced build 'em quick society that is Meade County, Rozier Homes recognizes this need.  That's why we'd like to introduce you to The Cliffs at East Meade.

    <ahttp://img292.echo.cx/img292/1650/map9ls.jpg align=baseline>
    It's no coincidence that The Cliffs is in one of the quieter parts of Meade County...away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Brantley...miles away from the relentless sprawl that Uptown Lattica has unleashed on our northern suburbs.

    <ahttp://img292.echo.cx/img292/9784/19eu.jpg align=baseline>

    <ahttp://img292.echo.cx/img292/7228/29hr.jpg align=baseline>
    The Cliffs welcomes sims who want the traditional community.

    <ahttp://img292.echo.cx/img292/4640/38tc.jpg align=baseline>
    Large lots and room to breathe.  Backyard Barbeques and dog-walking suddenly seems back in style again.

    <ahttp://img292.echo.cx/img292/7268/48tj.jpg align=baseline>
    These large homes have room for sim families to grow.  (Thanks, Simgoober!!!)

    <ahttp://img292.echo.cx/img292/7667/55mc.jpg align=baseline>
    Phase Two of The Cliffs features even larger lots.  This isn't your typical Meade County community.

    Wow, looks great.

    What's so controversial about urban sprawl? I don't find it controversial (Yes, I know, my cities are sprawl, sprawl, sprawl, but I like it).

    Well, just thought I check this CJ and read all 5 pages.
    And I really have to say: WOW! Your city looks great.
    Most importantly I like your road layout, very good use of the one way-roads to create avenues and interchanges.
    You're also very good in avoiding the grid.

    Hope you'll give us another region pic in the near future. I'd like to know the number of people.
    Do you use any cheats to encourage growth like the superdemand mod? I thought the high rise in your down- and uptown came a little too quick.

    jacqulina: Glad you like the row homes...in typical Lattica fashion, there will be many more!  I dunno what sign you're talking about, but the fountain comes from 'PEG Trail Parks III,' which can be found in the STEX .
    Shadow_Assassin: Thanks.  When you live in the southern USA (which is currently growing at ridiculous rates) urban sprawl is a very controversial topic.  In Atlanta (the city that helped inspire me to create Lattica and Caspen), sprawl is at its worst.  But this is SimCity afterall, so I can build the most sprawling city ever, load my sims up to their necks in smog, and I don't even have to feel bad about it. 11.gif  Besides, I like your sprawl too...your suburbs don't look quite so dense.
    Romie: Thank you.
    aleking: Thanks for following the cj!
    raindog: Thanks and I'm glad you like Lattica.  There will be a region pic and exact population figures in the next update, although I can tell you that Lattica's population is somewhere around 130,000 and the metro population is somewhere around 160,000.  Not bad but Lattica's got some major growing to do.  And to answer the cheats question, yes...anything to get my city to look the way I desire.  Some of my commercial buildings were plopped but most of them grew.  And I did use the superdemand mod.  9.gif
    Deathtoall: 9 outa 10?  Wow.  Many thanks to you...glad you like the realism.

    Okay folks, sorry to break the terrible news to you but this is not an update.  You could say I got a little caught up in all the Independence Day festivities.  Anyways, Lattica has run into a major problem.  Whenever I save the game, some of my trees and BATs disappear once I open the game again.  I dunno what's going on.  I posted a screenshot below.  It only happens in Davidson County (Lattica) and nowhere else.  If anyone know's what's going on I'd appreciate the help.  I'm working on getting to the bottom of this glitch but in the meantime I'll continue working on Lattica's suburbs.  Thanks to everyone for following the CJ and I'll see you next update!

    ganja728: Thank you.  As for the walls, I'm assuming you're talking about the residential diagonal stone walls, which are in the STEX .
    jacqulina: You're welcome.
    Everyone: I re-installed SC4 and the glitch is still there.  I may have to halt updates until I find the root of the problem.  Until then, here's one more update on the latest suburban happenings...

    intro5wb.jpg
    map16kl.jpg
    map22hm.jpg
    Official Metro Population Data:
    Davidson County (Lattica): 133,863
    Springfield County (Milton): 17,305
    Meade County (Brantley/Edgewater): 15,240
    Dannen County (Alden): 5,509
    Total Metro Population: 171,917

    15qi.jpg
    Dannen County is Lattica's newest growing suburb.  Unlike Lattica's northern suburbs, the area enjoys a quiet, small town-like atmosphere.  Builders are still trying to cram as many houses as possible into this small town, but no big businesses have decided to re-locate here.  The end result is a classic bedroom community, without the midrise office towers or huge malls...it's a quieter, more peaceful place to live.  Perhaps the later completion of the perimeter highway will change that. 11.gif

    <ahttp://img171.imageshack.us/img171/2792/26rm.jpg align=baseline>
    Alden Hills is now the largest single housing development in the entire region.  Over 1,000 sims call this subdivision home!

    <ahttp://img171.imageshack.us/img171/9900/33jh.jpg align=baseline>
    A large entrance was needed for such a large community.

    <ahttp://img171.imageshack.us/img171/5553/40ul1.jpg align=baseline>
    Alden Hills features unique parks that are scattered throughout the neighborhood.

    <ahttp://img171.imageshack.us/img171/9498/54sc1.jpg align=baseline>
    Other communities are also springing up along I-65.

    <ahttp://img171.imageshack.us/img171/9259/68ct.jpg align=baseline>
    Dannen County is even beginning to attract wealthier sims.

    <ahttp://img171.imageshack.us/img171/5286/74dm.jpg align=baseline>
    This huge empty field promises a new shopping development: Town Center at Southgate.  Construction will begin soon.

    <ahttp://img171.imageshack.us/img171/5599/88fu.jpg align=baseline>
    This Food Lion may be the only supermarket in town right now, but it's going to face serious competition soon.

    <ahttp://img171.imageshack.us/img171/5624/99li.jpg align=baseline>
    Dannen County officials jumped at the chance to use the newly developed concrete walls along I-65, but they are only used within the Alden city limits.  [Thanks, 3ddz!]

    <ahttp://img171.imageshack.us/img171/782/104lu.jpg align=baseline>
    Sims mostly use I-65 to commute to Lattica.  Dannen County is largely a commuter county.  Over 3/4 of its sims commute to Davidson County daily.

    aleking, MayorTim: Thanks again!  I'm glad you're enjoying it.
    kingofsimcity: I wish that were the problem.  Unfortunately, all my settings (including city detail) are set to high.
    jacqulina: Thanks!
    Everyone: Still no solution to the problem.  The strange thing is it's only happening in Davidson County....no problems in any other parts of the region.  It seems to not be limited to just the trees, but some BATs as well.  I'm truly stumped on this one.  I tried re-installing some updates and patches...still no results.  I'll keep pondering this situation and let you know if anything changes.  Look's like there won't be anymore updates for a while... 32.gif

    Codythemonkey: Thanks!  Welcome to Lattica.

    Important Update:

    I copied Lattica over to my Mac (I knew it was good for something!) to see if the same problems existed there and they did.  So it's not a glitch with the game, but it's gotta be a glitch with the city.  [:0]  Oh the horror.  And so...as the problem gets progressively worse (more buildings are beginning to disappear from Lattica, which I then replop only to find them disappear again) I am really left with one option...to obliterate Lattica.  I know, I know.  History seems to repeat itself.  But before I obliterate the city, does anyone have any last-minute alternatives to save the city?  If not, I'll make a final post on this thread and quickly jumpstart the Lattica 2 thread...maybe If I work fast I can restore Lattica to its former glory...with some improvements, of course.  Once again, thanks for sticking with it!
