Okay its time for something different, radical in fact.

For years everyone has claimed that the SimWorld was flat, well that is no more.  The SimWorld is now in 3 dimensions.

I will be making the first 3 dimensional SimWorld using SimCity4.

I will take a normal city like this:

2d.jpg

And I will turn it into this:

3d.jpg

3dzoomedout.jpg

Stay tuned cause the SimWorld has changed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A little background:

I came up with this idea when I was playing Halo. I don't know exactly how it happened but I though hey I could probaly make a 3d simworld.

I have a weak computer so I have to start this out small.  it'll be a total of 6 small cities.  1 city will have connections on all 4 sides, 1 city will have 2 connections and 4 cities will only have 1 connection.  I will use 1 city for heavy development, mainly res and com. 1 city for utilities and heavy industial development to support the heavy res and com development. 3 cities will be suburbs of the heavy developed city and I will have 1 city dedicated to farming.

Since this is the first it will be on a grid.  If this cube is succesful I will build another and expand the size while also making the cities less gridy.

Stuff I will do next:

-Post pics of some development

-I'll create a tutorial on how to turn a flat 2d region into a 3d world (for free).

Very cool idea, quite unique.  I'm looking forward to seeing the end result, not to mention how you actually plan to accomplish this.  Good luck!

You definitely have a different plan for a CJ here. It looks quite interesting, and I can't wait for more! Good luck!

Wow, this is cool. This will be interesting to see how you get those buildings on that cube.

    Reply's:

Thanks all for the replys.  I didn't think this was on a good start(the first two replys) but it looks like people might actually want to see this.

Oh and so you know,  this is basically  an experiment.  I have no idea what it is exactly suppose to be.  just experimenting, and it'll of course be a work in progress.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay here is what cubed looks like now.  I have developed the cbd some and I also developed some industrial and utilities in another city but I don't have enough time to get pics of that city.

    1.jpg

as you can see sc4's buildings dont have the 3rd dimension so I had to add some dimension to it.  the width and length of the buildings is pretty much accurate, the height was just eye-balled so some might be taller or shorter than the sc4 buildlings.

    here's some different angles.

    5.jpg

    4.jpg

    here's some fun shots.

    3.jpg

this one is a perspective on top of one building looking out towards the most developed part of the city.

    2.jpg

and this one is just a look down an avenu.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    conclusions:

-It didn't really come out how I expected it to.  I envisioned it different(the looks).  I didn't think the buildings would be so  angled(the actual sc4 buildings)

-the cube looks very weird with only 1 developed city so i'll have to develope more areas.

-I think this concept, of a cube, would be better if the cube itself was bigger.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    teaser:

I started this before I started the cube.  I was thinking big right out of the box.  But then I realized that it would have been smarter to test somethings first.  so this project will be put on hold untill I can learn the dynamics of 3 dimensional city building.

it's a transporatation vechicle(sp?) that is a self sustaining.  it'll carry alot of people, how ever many 57 small cities can hold.  it's suppose to travel the galaxy, and many generations of humans can live on it while it travels.  it's basically like a cruise ship x alot.

Certainly, although you're implementing the idea well, the plain white cubes sort of ruin it. Besides that (unimportant) complaint, you are doing well. I will look forward to see if you can create your intergalactic transport vehicle...
