I often like to choose names of faraway places nobody hears of (often). Such names are: Tashkent, Quesnel, Astana, Milford, etc. Look in an atlas and look at all the small towns and villages in say, northern Russia, northern Canada, western Australia, Kazakhstan, and if you want to get more exotic, try looking in Peru, Mongolia, Southern Argentina, and Iceland.

Of course, I like English names so I tend to mix and match roots and stems of various english words. The cities in my current region so far are: Dole, East Dole, West Dole, Upland Hills, Medford, Canso, South Canso, Caucusville, Franklin, Sultra Island, Praestigaard(dutch name), Port Ladysmith, Crown Heights, and Annieville.

In the San Francisco Region that came with the game, there is a city tile with a small lake towards the center. The city I have built there is called Sandy Lake. To the north, Montana Vista. To the east, Sierra Plains. South of Sierra Plains, Coastal City (large city tile).

If anyone is still collecting city names from this thread, mine so far are:

Paducah
Angelique
Wallace
Horseshoe
Edison
Fulton
Sweetwinter
Yankee Cove
Mule Station
Coronado

Paducah is my original & my largest city, dominated by commerce along its western/lakefront side. Angelique (to the east) and Edison (to the northeast) are centered around industry, while Wallace (on a peninsula to the northwest) is a residential bedroom community that grew into another major city. Horseshoe is an island to the west, an enclave for the seriously wealthy. The others are currently small bedroom communities on the edges of the bigger cities.

Some of my cities have been real life: Washington,DC (Best City ever, high mayor rating, good cashflow, little pollution, etc., Hollywood, Manhattan, Albany (No I do not live in New York).

But the ones I have made up are: Aberfoyle (from a bottle of spring water) East Aberfoyle(sometimes I make smaller cities around the large one a good name for these type cities are east, north, south, west), Craterton (A city in the middle of a huge crater), my brother's: she bangs (Mayor, William Hung), Henagar (Our Hometown).

There is a few suggestions!

Here are some city name sources I have used:
The periodic table of elements (ie. some of my favorite city names are The Thallium Foothills, Rubidium Plains, Iridium Coast.

One can also use the suffixes berg, opolis, ville at the end of any noun or adjective that strikes your fancy. Kerryville or Bushberg, for instance.
