I'm just wondering (since I've started to do some unusual configs myself) if any of you have unusual regions. by that I mean that your regions have to have more than 4 sides and 2 types of city tile sizes. Here's mine, Dipaxis:

i ddon't have a pis (sorry) but i used to have a region that was an "L" shape, and followed a coastline down to a large city.  It was pretty cool.  The best way to make strange configs is to add as you go.  But MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS ADD DOWN AND RIGHT. never up.  That will wipe everything out.  The L region started as a square, but i kept adding on so i could add more cities.

Interesting topic.  The picture below is the region configuration for Terra magnified 800%.

  config25uv.jpg

It is normally sized 100 pixels wide by 80 pixels high and consists of a repeating pattern of 4 large city tiles neighbouring a single small city tile.  The reason I designed it this way was to simplify reconciling by not allowing 4 city tile corners to meet anywhere on the map.  Except for the edges, a maximum 3 city tiles will be meeting at any given point.

I can't create configs by myself43.gif how do you guys do that?

I know i have to do this in paint, but it never works, is it because I use the wrong colours?

The easiest way to create a config file is to open an existing one and save as a new file of the same name, ie: in a new folder. Then use the eye dropper in paint to select and use existing colours. This way you cannot pick the wrong colours. You can easily change the size of the config in paint as well. Also, you must make sure that the size of the config and the size of the region correspond. Check out the Simtropolis Omnibus for useful tutorials... Specifically, this one.

DT, I'm very interested in Montaukshire. You posted region pics of it once but when I saw them, imageshack or wherever you hosted them had deleted them.

Config refers to the little picture that determines how cities are distributed in a region.  If you were to open up the config.bmp picture in MS Paint, it would (probably) be a very tiny square of a few different colors; if you magnify it, you'd see that it's only red, green and blue squares.  Red spots are where small cities are (and they are exactly one pixel on the config image), green is medium (4 pixel square) and blue is large (16 pixel square).  This is how you get these weird-looking regions, by creating a config.bmp (or editing an existing one), then importing it into SC4.

As for avenue roundabouts, you need the Network Addon Mod (NAM) in order to place them.  Once you have that, there'll be an option in the transportation menu to plop them down.
