A Quick Guide on Missing Props on Lots

The dependencies showed in the LD file for many PEG lots are due to the way Pegasus released his initial collection and he included many textures and props directly in his lot ... so many times those will show in the files I do because I have the whole old Pegasus collection on my machine. I am very carefull when I apply props and textures to try and stick to Maxis or BSC stuff. So if you do not see the brown boxes or obvious missing props and blank spots on the lot you should stick to what is in the Readme.

I just had an idea, if you open a lot in the lot editor, will it show the boxes or blank spots where the missing files should be? I have a slow computer and it would be faster for me to open the lot in the lot editor than start up the game.

Thanks,

The lot editor does different things for props, textures and buildings if they are missing.

For textures, you will generally see a bright white texture in place of the missing one.  If you highlight it, you will see the Instance number of the missing texture, which might help you track it down.  Keep in mind that the LE does not record dependencied of textures, only props and buildings.

For Props, they are blank in the SC4 perspective view, but still show up as the blue square on the right side of the screen.  Again, if you hover over it you will see the missing IID # (Instance ID)

Missing buildings will normally cause the LE to crash; it's a little moody about that...

Please, Please someone help me. I had reinstalled SC4 after a complete system restore. I have searched, read this thread and downloaded all appropriate items mentioned and placed them in order. but I still have missing props-Gustavs Knicknacks, Sim Spa & Health. these are in game lots. What am I doing wrong?

2nd quest--the functional blank lot & prop set is just for the lot editor right? So I don't need it if I am playing the game?

Do you have (bldgprop_vol1.dat) in your plugins folder?

The in game Props you mention are NOT props in the game, they are buildings. You need the file above which contains those original in game Props. That file is from the official Maxis site, and is ONLY available there.

Well now we have a problem.

The CSX Planning Transport affairs, was made before the BAT, so it SEEMS at least that you must be missing one of the .dat files which should be installed with the game.

A picture of the lot with the brown box may help.

The brown box tells us that you are missing the graphics which with the BAT we would call the Model or the file with the extension .sc4model. However, this older lot, even the upgraded one, does not use any BAT models, but uses the normal in game building files.

The only thing I can think of for the first question, the one about Gustav's Nicknaks, is that you might have some other file that is overriding the in bldg props. I am not aware of any that do, so try this.

Place the two Maxis props files into the same plugin directory that the Maxis installs the landmarks into.

Now remove everything, and I do mean everything from your MyDocs/SimCity4/Plugins directory. Just move this stuff into a temporary folder somewhere.

Now open a lot in the LE that is at least 3x3 in size. Now click on the props tab, and search for Gustav. Do you find it now? If not, it seems that you may have a corrupted file or something, and I won't be able to help on that one.

I suspect you just have too many things in your plugins, but since I have no idea how many things you have or how you have organized your folders, I am at a loss to help more than this.

What you are saying should not be happening.

Do you have other things (Mods, Lots, etc) in the Maxis main plugins directory also.

The best way to troubleshoot is to have all custom content completely out of both plugins, except perhaps the one item you may be testing. Let us know what you find trying this test.

I solved my problem. I took everything out of both file deleted the patch and the bld prop 1 & 2, then reinstalled the game and then downloaded the patch and the bldg props again. This time I grew Gustavs w/o the box. then I added everything back into my plugin files. Everything works now. I don't know what the problem was because I had tried reinstalling the game before and it didn't work. Thanks for the help.

I would first read the readme, follow any links given and if this still does not work, I would send a PM to the author of the lot asking for their assistance.

ALL the links with simtropolis prop files NOT WORK. Where can i download those files???

Simtrop offers you the Landmark prop set which you can download from here:
https://www.simtropolis.com/modfiles/index.cfm

and Simtropolis version of Rush Hour Buildings as Props

------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT by Moderator:  These files are mods to the originals, but they will NOT WORK without the originals from the official SimCity.com website!

If I understand you correctly, you have downloaded a lot or BAT and the links in the Readme do not work. Can you give some lot names so someone can try to point you in the right direction?

No, the links i posted above are originaly posted by moderator i believe, at top of the thread. He recomends downloading those files in order to make some of the missing buildings appear. But aparently those files are no longer available and i was wondering where can i get them.

2nd, here are the lots I downloaded and dont show up in my game. I have installed RH update and bldgprop_vol1 and vol2

Axel Aluminum
Fashion Fabrics
Overbergconstruction
Roachland Hotel

1st three are plopp industrial, last 1 is plopp comercial.

I woud have made my own or try to modify some existing ones only if i could download all the tools i need off simcity.ea.com, which doesnt work, i CANT download anything from them.

All the lots you mention are old ones and only use standard Maxis buildings from bldgprop_vol01 and vol02.

I have just looked for the European Buildings Props and they are here: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=Prop&Str=european%20props
The Landmarks as Props are here:

The reason the original links don't work is that the STEX has been moved and old links were broken. It is worth searching around if you are having problems. There are, however, much better lots than those now.

I'm finding the car parks aren't showing up after I've loaded quite a few of the retail stores lots, e.g. Tesco, Blockbuster, Wal-Mart etc. etc.

What's happened?

Sorry PhatPhish but I doubt if anyone will help with this.  It's an old thread.  I read through it also and I'm having a real hard time understanding it.  Oh well!!!
