I'm gonna miss Smithfield, but am looking forward to seeing Lighthouse Cove. Keep up the great work !

I'm gonna kinda miss Smithfield too, but like I said before we WILL come back to it.  I just want to get some basic development done and have a few more interconnected towns and cities.  Eventually, I would like to have a few more small towns like Smithfield, plus another slightly large city like Tarrytowne.  I'm not sure if I want the other city to a huge metropolis, but I would like a large city.  I feel that with multiple cities/towns all interconnected you start to get some sort of dependence and stability between them.  Just like in real life (even if real life does sometimes SUCK!  16.gif

Dude, you snuck two updates in there on me...Let's go back to update 16 shall we?  The high school complex, again, I am amazed at how you put these types of areas together.....It really seems that this is becoming your niche....It looks fantastic....

Well, I will assume from seeing your avatar that you are involved in some type of search and/or rescue...and that shows up in pic 16-3 along with the story line.  It was pretty cool to get some technical backgound there.  For me, it was like reading a Cussler novel and finding out all about the ocean going vessels they were using....The pic there is great as well.....Nice job catching the helicopter there.

Love the region shot....Looks fantastic...BTW, what is the blue stuff there?

Ahhhh, we bid a fond farewell to Smithfield.  Thank you for the wonderful parting shots.....

    Regards my friend,

    Dhop,

Two updates...yup.  I wanted to try to tie up Smithfield and get on to Lighthouse Cove (which you should see a basic update for this afternoon!  44.gif )

Thanks for the comments.  You must really thank Jeronij for the inspiration for the parks, complexes, etc. using his tarmac trails.  I just try to mimic things I see in real life.  Plus, I like the idea of calming, open, green-space and most of the his trails set fits the bill.  I like to think that the people in my CJ are able to unwind after a long days work by taking a stroll in one of my many parks.  You don't do a bad job of it either!  You put together some good areas with the pine trails too.  Who knows, maybe we'll both get a Trixie this year!!  37.gif44.gif

As for the avatar, yes I am in that sort of field.  I am a 911 dispatcher, so that phrase in that part of the update is actually something I would say in real life over the radio.  29.gif44.gif3.gif  I saw that when I was playing the game and it was an instant 37.gif.  I thought, Oh My God!  How cool would that be.  At least you thought it was.  2.gif

The blue stuff on the region shot, those are clouds.  When you leave the game go for a few seconds that far out, you start to get massive cloud cover invade the region.  That was the most neutral color that I could come up with to fill in the clouds and still blend with the region itself.  Gotta love Paint Shop Pro!  48.gif

I'll give it some time and see if we get any other parting comments for Smithfield and then I'll give the basic story line and a few pics for Lighthouse Cove this afternoon.

Oh yeah, by the way.  With the CJ's I am subscribed to and get email on, I watched you post your comments almost in order today from my Inbox.  It was kind of amusing waiting to see when you would get around to mine. 17.gif

    Take care my friend...

Thanks gurrgkud.  The sub-malls, they are yet another one of the absolutely stunning PEG creations.  As my CJ progresses you will see a lot of influence by the PEG stuff (if you can't already!  1.gif )

To all...as always, thanks for the great comments.  I am getting some good play time in on Lighthouse Cove and I have some good pictures started.  Dhop, you'll probably like, no love the commercial center...I'll wet your appetite and now leave ya hanging for a few hours!!  MUHAHA!!  17.gif

Serious, I think I may like Lighthouse Cove the best so far...at least at the beginning anyway.

    Update_1--LCove.gif

Ok folks, here we are at the first update for Lighthouse Cove.  Before the location is revealled, how the location was selected must first be recorded.

Lighthouse Cove actually started as a business initiative between the Tarrytowne Government and four of the wealthiest industrialists.  It was quickly becoming evident to everyone that the two ports in Tarrytowne were unable to keep up with the demand placed upon them.  Because of the strain, goods were backed up for weeks and sometimes even months waiting for shipment.  Due to the strain on the affected businesses, these four industrialists formed a new business, Regional Shipping, LLC.  The purpose of this company was to locate and establish a new town that would act as a regional transportation hub for the entire Tarrytowne River Valley.  After several logistics meetings with Artimus, the group set out on a mission of exploration.  Regional Shipping, LLC comprised of Craig Sorenson, Emily Bartimus, Geoffrey Allen and Samual Anderson.

At first, the group explored the regions surrounding Tarrytowne.  After creating many maps and pouring over them for weeks, they decided that the area was too hilly and at times mountainous.  Next, they turned their attention to the river itself.  The north branch would prove to be too difficult for freighters because of the shallow water, sand bars and hidden rock outcroppings.

With that, they sailed down river towards the ocean.  What they found astounded them.  At the mouth of the river and just to the west they found a cove that formed a natural harbor.  The cove held none of the same dangers as the river.  There was also a small island just to the east of the river mouth that would work wonderfully for a lighthouse.  This lighthouse would prove invaluable in protecting ships sailing up and down the coast as well as assisting freighters to navigate into the harbor.

In addition to the potential shipping area, there were also several plentiful fishing areas around and near the island.  This would prove an invaluable food source as well as a source of commerce.  With just a few minutes of conversation, after months of searching Regional Shipping, LLC came to a unanimous choice.

So, with their site selection made they returned to Tarrytowne briefly to collect some belongings while Artimus spoke with the government.  After several days of secret negotiations, the government had granted development rights to Regional Shipping, LLC.  The only catch was that 1% of all profits go back to the government for a period of 25 years to offset the price of the land.

With that, a new town was born.  Because of the features of the area it was appropriately named Lighthouse Cove.

    Picture LH1-1
    LCove--01--Initial_View.jpg

Their first order of business was to begin with the creation of a bridge over to the island and construction of the lighthouse itself.  The rest of the island was developed into park land so that the lighthouse itself could become a tourist attraction, further adding to the city coffers.

Well, that's all for now.  We now have the beginnings of Lighthouse Cove.  Stay tuned for more as I think I'm really gonna enjoy this city.  I have several pictures left that I took today, but I think I'll save them for another update.  16.gif

And for all of your mothers out there, Happy Mothers Day.  39.gif

I like the new frames too.  I was originally planning to change the frame with each new city like you and Darmok do, but after seeing how those pics turned out I may stick with this frame for the rest of the CJ.  Unless of course I find one I like better before the next city starts.  2.gif

As for Lighthouse Island...I actually took a little inspiration from another CJ...I wonder whose.  2.gif18.gif  I played with that island for over 2 hours getting it to the way I liked it.  I actually started with a different sea wall set, one of the Japanese sets I downloaded.  I has a yellow stripe running horizontally across the center of each piece.  I may incorporate some of the pieces somehow if I can figure out how to change the color scheme on them.  There are lots of extra pieces that actually look like mechanical sets you would see on them, jetties coming out into the water, etc.
As for the trails, well you said it yourself...those are my niche!  44.gif

I'm surprised nobody noticed the hidden tunnel though...

No time for a real update today, but I wanted to give everyone, including gurrgkud, a peek into what I am planning for this area.  I have a few quote-unquote set in stone ideas for zoning...at least kind of set in stone.  Bright green is low & medium dinsity residential, blue is commercial, the fuscia color  in the center of the big residential area is a decent size park which is already built I'll let ya know!  (if that ain't the right color, oh well, I'm a guy and I don't know any better!  2.gif ), the salmon color is the harbor and fishing areas, the yellow is industrial and the dark green is the high density residential (high value housing along the ocean.)

The long black lines coming from the bridge and also going horizontally and then diagonally are major transportation lines...

    Here it is...

    Aldara,

Those frames are a very nice touch! Very authentic!
That Lighthouse island is a great idea, (I should had it before!!!) 17.gif

What's that blowing thing near the bridge? a whale42.gif

And the hidden tunnel, well... I wonder where it leads! If it goes all the way under the water, should be pretty damp hey! 47.gif

    Great work!

Darmok, the blowing thing is actually a water-bound power source.  Think it is from one of the hydro-dam sets.  Not sure.  I didn't want the little no power icons popping up while I was taking pics.  Once I get the mainland area powered up, I will delete it since the bridge will carry power across to the island.

The tunnel, well it is actually a service entrance used by the Dept. of Public Works.  They have access to hundreds of tunnels, and this is just one of the entrances.  It gives access to power, water, sewer, etc.  In some areas it does get kind of damp, but the areas containing power generating or transmission equipment have been sealed to prevent water leakage.  Thanks for asking.  29.gif

dhop, well, I'm trying to win every aware possible so the more I can kill everyone the better!!  11.gif9.gif17.gif  Just Kidding!  I like to have fun, and I'm just a fun loving kind of guy...glad you approve!  9.gif

oroen, yeah, I'd be interested to see if I stick to my plan too.  Often times when I zone a picture like that it ends up getting change quit a bit by the time I play the game.  17.gif

jacqulina, yeh, PEG's stuff is just awesome isn't it.  I love the stuff!!  44.gif

To all...I am taking an Update Break for a day or two to play the game.  I really need to get some development done in Lighthouse Cove and only game time will help that.  2.gif  Keep the comments coming though, I love em.  The more comments I get the more my CJ stays at the top of the list!!  17.gif2.gif  Just kidding!  44.gif

As for my influences, yeah, I do tend to take a lot away from those two CJ's.  I haven't had quite the following or replies that Jeronij or Dhopeii have had with their CJ's, but I hope to someday when my CJ grows up!  44.gif17.gif

*SIGH*  Well all, I'm having a tough time playing Lighthouse Cove.  I have so many ideas for LH, I can't seem to get them all to gel.  I have been overworking my bulldozer tool the last few days.  I have actually totally bulldozed the entire city 3 times, with the exception of the island of course, that is the only thing I like so far.  5.gif

Thank god for the money cheat lots I have...or else LH would already be broke or have massive debt from loans. 17.gif

If anyone has any ideas, feel free to edit the region pic from the first LH update and post it here...I'm all ears (and eyes) at this point...  30.gif

Also, anyone have any suggestions or comments for my updated signature?

    Update_2--LCove.gif

Ok, so maybe I wasn't telling the truth when I said no updates...although, this one will be very small.  I just wanted to give an idea of some things I did do that I was happy with. (See previous post from today's date.)

First off, here is a picture of my initial zoning.  Part of Lightouse Cove is a semi grid-like design.  I tried to stay away from it, but it seems to flow so I'm gonna keep it.  I did some terraforming today and created some hills on the north side of town, so maybe those streets will be different.  48.gif  Notice the suken residential by the water.

    Picture LC2-1
    LCove--10--Initial_Zoning.jpg

In that picture, you can see another one of my beautiful parks in the middle of the commercial zoning. (Dhoppeii seems to think I am one of the premier park builders on here.  Guess we'll see about that.  9.gif )  Initially I was calling this park Commerce Park, because of being in the center of the commercial area.

    Picture LC2-2
    LCove--07--Commerce_Park.jpg

After completion of the park though, with some more ground dedicated to the park I am changing the name to Monument Park.  That is because in each of the corners, you can see a monument.  One is for the Free Masons, one is for the Rhouritan Club, one is for the Lions Club and the last is just a clock monument.  I couldn't get a good picture close enough to see all the monuments, so here is one showing the top ones.  The bottom part of the park is laid out exactly the same.  It is one great big park, but in actuality it is four seperate parks in one big area.

    Picture LC2-3
    LCove--13--Updated_Park.jpg

Finally is a shot of some of the terraforming that Regional Shipping, LLC is doing to the cove in preperations for the main harbor.  There was a ton more done after this shot, but this gives you an idea of what I'm gonna do with it.

    Picture LC2-4
    LCove--08--Harbor_Terraforming.jpg

Well, that is it for a while.  I have two finals coming up in a few days, so RLS for now.  I won't be on much until the weekend due to studying and such.  Human Resource Management and Manaement Theories...yuck! 32.gif

Also, please feel free to look at my previous post and submit any ideas you can come up with.  I would really appreciate them.

    That's all for now folks...

aldara - Great Update.  I like in the first pic, how the area at the bottom of the pic is at a different elevation.  The separation looks great.  The park, as always look incredible.  I had seen those corner lots when they first came out, but I just never downloaded them.  The only thing I would say about the corner lot, and I say this not know what the lot looks like in LE, is you might want to try and change the texture on the corner lots to match the rest of the park area.  Again, you might not be able to and/or you might just not want to.  It was just something I noticed.  Have fun with that Human Resources Management studying....Sounds like a great time30.gif

I want to see how this will turn out!
My first CJ, of 2 years ago was entirely griddy, since then I try to avoid it, not easy, but your zoning looks interresting enough, and all this around a big park. 19.gif

I agree with dhoppeii about the color of the corner lot, It would be interesting to see it with a color that math the rest. But as I don't kwow zilch about the LE It would be difficult for me. 2.gif

And for HRM and MT that doesn't sound like fun! 28.gif

    Good work aldara!

aldara - I downloaded that lot and checked in LE, even if you wanted to change the grass, you wouldn't be able to from within LE.  Only a small portion of the lot uses the grass base texture, the rest is actually a BAT.

    Later,
