Well to tell you all, i'm a big $%&^! in SC4. My cities are like the poorest you know and the realisticless you know.

So, can somebody give tips for noobs in this subject ? Or put on the STEX base maps for cities (for examples maps with already the main transport axes defined) ?

Please to more experimentated players.

Massacrator, the only way for you not to be a $%&^! is to play the game. You just have to try things out and see what works, that being said, there are some tutorials here that could help (go to the forums page and search for tutorials). Also, take advantage of the City Journals (CJs), look through them and see what 'defines' your style. Additionally, there are cheats if you don't mind using them for money to help you try things. Lastly, there are some mods you might want such as the Network Addon Mod (NAM) if you don't already have it. What ever you do, when you down load pay attention to the 'read me' so you'll have what you need (oh, and really important - organize your plug ins so you can find something if it messes the game up. A lot of the lotters/BATers use installers but some don't so you'll want to place them carefully). Most of all - have fun!

Like Fred_Ginger said, playing  the game itself is still the best way to gain experience. Along the way you'll certainly encounter problems. So that you can solve them and won't repeat these mistakes later, search the forums for answers. Most problems encountered by new players have been answered adequately in the past.

Also, take a look at ST's Omnibus section. It won't hurt to have more knowledge about how things like, say,  "demand and desirability" work before actually sitting down and building your city. Another excellent resource is thy451's Simcity Guide. Read these two thoroughly and you'll have greater understanding of how SC4 works.

Have fun playing SC4! 9.gif

yep those responses are probably the best your going to get at this point. It is difficult to help you when you have such an open question. The best thing to do is to start asking specific questions. However, it is highly recommended that you do a search for the question you are asking and make sure that no one has asked that question before.

I am sure that even the most seasoned city builders among us will say that they are still learning the game so don't expect to become some grand master city planner overnight. build lots of cities, experiment with game and look through the "Show us your..." threads and the City Journal sections for inspiration. this is how I started and I have my own CJ now.

good luck and welcome to Simtropolis.

Hmm heres a tip do not use streets or roads. (well try anyway) roads are fine near the beginning but when it comes to traffic (depending where) you either have to destroy it or replace it with an avenue or highway. it way destroy some building (depending where) but it is kinda worth it.

Two Tips:

-Use the in-game tutorial ciries. They did wonders for me when I was first learning how to play

-Don't be afraid to cheat! Learning how to play a complicated game like Simcity can be aggravating, especially if you don't see any results. Using a cheat here and there can give you the motivation to keep playing and experimenting, without worrying about money. Eventually you'll come to know the game well enough so that you'll be fine to play without cheating.

Its totally possible to become a pro without cheating, but I find that using cheats can help to boost you down the road to greatness. 3.gif

i dunno i guess i'd say watch your money/Spending and control yourself - if you can't afford it don't spend it

i'd be nice to start off with everything but it's not possible without cheats so.......um ...i dunno :hah ha-h:

start your game off right and use greyveil's start up tutorial.

https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=110&threadid=58510&enterthread=y

personelly I say skip the transit options and get the latest version of the NAM

the latest version of the SC4Tool program. the SC4Tool allows you to scan custom content...check it to see if you have all the files...edit the lots...way kewl program..a must...4.gif

 NAM for PC

https://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=380

Nam for Mac

https://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=388

SC4Tool Program

https://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=390

this will set your game up to use the STEX properly.

after that...GO SLOW adding a lot of custom content ...adding a lot quickly can be a disaster, cause all sorts of issues and it's hard to find what the problem is

have one or several sandbox region to test new stuff out befiore using in your "favorite" region.

specially when adding any new mods, some have conflicts...you never really know ???

keep your plugins folder orginized so you can find thing easily just in case

actually read the reame files that come with the file they are the instrustion from the maker on how to install the lots correctly and any file(s) you might requitre for the lot to function correctly

I recomend not using any file without a readme til your familar with the game and how to check these files with the SC4Tool program properly

money tree lots are always helpful for sandboxing and experimenting, test things out as they don't affect the game and you learn how things work....you just get to do anything you want...like a kld with a crayon...2.gif

You don't want pre-made roads. Build them yourself. That is what the game is about.

First thing is use the shift key when laying down zones. I rarely allow SC to place my streets. I lay down a section of streets and roads then zone. You have to keep in mind future development and road building.

Start small. Even if you are on a large map.

Watch those budgets. I like to go into the individual school, hospital, what ever and adjust the spending there. There is no need to burn money on 300 students when you are only serving 80. This can save a ton of money.

And sometimes a city just goes wrong - then it's time for the Killer Robot and Car-zilla to battle the UFO.

enjoy
