I know this question has already been answered, but I can't find the answer 41.gif

I have a Large city. The population grew to 700,000 sims with the residential demand almost at the highest. Then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, the demand dropped to the bottom and now my sims are leaving with a blink of an eye! How come, does anyone have a solution?

Hi ... I've suffered similar circumstances with soe of my Cities... My problem was associate with two different problems.

First up, check your disirability map. I noticed that one problem was associated to all avenues and parks becoming all highly undisirable, deep red and all res left town causeing all other co, cs and industry to pack up and go too. Now I never found what caused the problem in the first place, and no one seemed to know of the problem either when I raised it here a few months ago. I ended up re-installing the NAM and removing the turning lanes part and the problem seemed to right itself.

Secondly, check your crime figures, I have noticed that since some new police stations hit the stex earlier this year, there has been some problems with a few that when bulldozed still sit in the bugdet at $0 per month and drags the rest of the entire funding down to $0 gradually over a few months. This obviously caused huge crime problems and once again caused res to leave. But you should have received warning if this happened.

These are two that I know off that will cause res to leave, I hope that it helps, otherwise good luck in trying to solve the problem.

Yup....that and Mayor rating plummets to 0 at about 700,000 pop. I plopped down a couple of kdrax's stuff in there, and rubics stuff, the Taipei and the WTC Twin Towers, crime is very high and even though I plop a bunch of police joints it doesn't seem to affect anything.

One thing to consider would be your residential demand cap. If you've hit the cap, demand will hit zero, and no more growth can occur beyond that. Try building a couple of recreational facilities (parks, gazebos, etc.) and see if it helps. Alternatively, you can directly check the caps by getting Equinox's RCI Mod off the STEX.

If you all of a sudden ran out of places to put your garbage, that is the first reason I can think of why residents would flee your city.

at 700,000 you might have reached overspill in hlth+educ and furthermore traffic noise and air pollution must be enormous. try more subway stations to bring down road traffic

No garbage (I got PEG lots to thanks for that), no air pollution (just on avenues and highways), huge education, great health. Lots of traffic thouh, at least it seems that way, I should check traffic control and see whats up, I still have a LOT of crime! Dunno why, I checked kdrax's Taipei with iLive reader to see if there was some crime property and there wasn't (thought there might something to change there cause his building is always red with crime.)

one thing is your problem, you are a skyscraper BAT builder so you must have some huge commercial skyscrapers in your city, one of them might have become abandoned due to crime or low demand, just find this building and replop it or something.

Frankly, these sound like terrible suggestions. What's the basis of these?

It's highly unlikely that farms will grow in a 700k city. The total industrial jobs in such a city are probably at least 30k, meaning no I-A growth possible due to the way the demand cap is computed. Furthermore, the high education in the city also means little I-A demand even if the cap is not filled.
