Wow.

This game looks so awesome. It's got a little bit of well... ummm, everything!  The only thing I'm kinda worried about is the invasions and attacks and such because this game could just become a race to the most advanced age like in games such as AOEII and Empire Earth and the aesthetic part of the game would be lost in the rush.

One big question I have though i how log will it take from being a protozoa to being a intergalactic traveller.

Anyways, as soon as this game comes out i'm getting it.

I admit that I am still poring over the reviews (translate: ain't read them yet) but will this game keep in the best tradition of Sim City and The Sims and be open ended?

It will be perty cool, by what it looks like.

You shouldn't compare it with Simcity, because they say it themsleves that the city building function is stripped down version of Simcity.

It looks perty cool and if plays true those cartoony carebear cities could be built to any level we desire. An ultimate universe seems real cool.

According to that outburst by the french dude from The Sims team, SC5 is in production.

Upon reading more articles about Spore, it seems that the game will transfer player created content over the internet to other player's games I read it in this article at 1up.com
Its like if player A makes the green blobs and player B makes the large square shaped dogs, then they would be shared via an internet connection so that both creations would appear in each other player's game. They are able to do this because Will Wright and the europeans he hired to demo the game were able to shrink the file size down to extreme minimums reducing download times. To read the Iup.com article click the link.

...this allows for an enormous quantity of player-created content, which he emphasized as another key element of the game's design that he has always fought for...

He keeps saying that - then we have to fight our way through the file formats and depend on luck to not overwrite each others files too often...

Hope they do a better job with Spore. The creatures mate so this will be a hit with a certain audience.

How do you balance a game.. forget it... im interested.

I recon that Spore will have a built-in exchange system, not relying in browsers since will stated that the other races are from other players... yet we shall wait for the official site and chat events...

balance game? heck, I just want to win!

I hope we won't have to kiddy-cuddle our creatures a la Black & White...

But it's an awesome idea for a game! Totally different than Simcity. If I had time, I'd love to buy it... 30.gif

It's quite sure it will. It downloads stuff when the game needs it. Like AI creatures, cities planets etc.

SIMpleton: I presume zil used that part as sarcasm2.gif
Well, I hope that the game won't be that breif as wright's deomnstration, like, once the dawn of civilization happens, we would go trough the ancient times, medieval and modern stages counterparts of the real history, that is if we MUST have a medieval period for instance, what about an straightforward history without the dark age... Ahh the possibilities sound endless18.gif

relying at the images, some are blurry, others are spongebob-themed, but, SJEES! they look so ****ing cool!! I just can't wait. ooh... 25.gif

but I was wondering, if, let's say, 100.000 people would play the game, and all of their creatures, cities, other content etc would be exchanged to the other players automaticly. Don't we get a crowded universe at that point? I can't believe the galaxy at one picture really containts hundreds of millions of planets, since a computer can't handle that. Or will they make a big server, which holds all the data of ALL the players, meaning you have to be connected to the internet before you can load your game?
    we'll see...

Spore will make use of online connectivity to share each player's creations with a central database while simultaneously retrieving others' work to help populate his own game world. The game's community will be an essential element of the overall experience; although the networked aspect of the title is asynchronous -- that is, no simultaneous multiplayer -- other gamers will influence each player's experience in many ways

you see? this means that we're all playing a game on the same map, in this case a whole galaxy. If this is really really true, I'm going to be one of the first ones who will have the game, no matter if I have to travel to the USA to get the game.

I saw that Wright imported european programmers to help the game develop. Are the american ones not good enough? hehe.

And what do I have to think about alogarithms creating the motions ad hoc? Is it possible that a computer can make it's own motions, without codes telling it where the polygons and textures are? cool.

I'd also like to know if it will be possible that all the players in that united galaxy aren't just PCgamers, but also Xbox-gamers, PS gamers... around the world, sharing ONE universe.

If this is indeed the case, the other game devellopers will get in trouble designing games that are as good as this one. This game is so extremely way complexe than conventional games. So I hope that Will takes his time to design a game, and doesn't rush, so we won't get a crappy game or so.

Like all EA games, probably would have an world-wide release date... About the universe, it isn't properly shated, you just share your race with other players, but not the planets or ETC according to what I read.. And the Xbox/PS/PC single universe isn't hard I recon, all that is needed is a converter at the server side...

This has to be THE best game ever made by a human being!!! (In my opinion 2.gif)
I mean...start at the molecular lever. Evolve into a being. Make a civilization! Take over others!! Create an empire!!!
*sighs in fantacism* The opportunities in the game are endless. I just dont get one thing. About the custom contant...do we have to create everything from houses to vehicles to creatures to objects to bombs to weapons to babies? Thats is going to be a heck of a lot of custom contant! [:0]

Anyway, I hope Will will make this game perfect and release it this year. I will buy it no matter the cost...even if I have to buy a new computer 35.gif

Spore is a game with, obviously, many interesting features, but I'm not sure SimCity fans would necessarily enjoy it. In fact (assuming that the version in the screenshots is close to being done), the cities themselves are not much more than a tiny area of high-tech buildings enclosed in walls; which I doubt more than a handful of inhabitants would be able to live in.

I also don't see the importance in making the game viewable with fully-rotational 3-D. Just because most other games are doing it doesn't mean that it's worthwhile. I bet that in order to do that, they'd have to minimise the quantity (And thus the realism) of many objects in the game, not to mention the drastically increased toll on graphics cards.

More screenshots I've gathered (some which overlap the ones im Simman's post) can be found at http://www.simvision.net/gallery.php?cat=Spore%20Preview .

Jimbo, I agree with you on the SC part. Those who want to get this game because they want to build cities; don't get it. It more of an RPG it seems like. That's my opinion though. Does anyone know if you will control you character in 1st person or will it do what it darn well please's?

    Hmm... well.... I agree.

This game is not a replacement for the Sim City series. When SC5 comes out, I am getting it...

HOWEVER!!! That does not diminish how great this game looks. To those who liked SimEarth, but didn't think it was nearly advanced enough this is the perfect game... For me, this is now one of two games that I look forward to playing (SC5 being the other one).

Supposedly, these are all actual examples of things that can be constructed with the game's editor. They're all procedurally animated (no premade animations, the engine figures them out), and made through some wacky procedural means. That is the thing that impresses me the most, and will probably lead to a lot of creativity and replayability.

Sure, this isn't the new Sim City. Heck, the city feature is probably going to be weak compared to the beloved Sim City 4. The game offers a pretty cool sounding storybox though, and I'm interested in getting it just to mess around with. The Sims did bore me after a short while, but hopefully the variety of modes, greater ability for creativity and sandboxing, and the fact that you're not simply guiding litte virtual people will make this game pretty good.

But then, what do I know, what with 1 post and all? (By the way, this site has a lot of the nicest SC4 addons / buildings out there. I should have gotten into the customizing earlier, but the game is pretty addicting as is.)

Sudddenly Dead:I think I'll nominate you for the most elloquent first post ever in simtropolis!18.gif
You have a point there, it is not a new simcity, just a mix between simcty, EVO, and etecetara in a whole new game, I don't get why people are ranthing saying that maxis killed simcity... in a nutshell: spore ≠ Simcity...

About downloading things into your universe:

I beleive the game downloads selectivly. It looks for what your planet or universe doesn't have, and downloads what it thinks will balance it (for example, if you have a barren desert void of all food, it may download bushes and trees, or if you have an infestation of virtual mice, it may download a group of virtual felines). This is just my understanding though, not nescessarily the truth.

    The things I'm happy about:
    A. Flexible graphics. I think this game will do better then any out there at allowing for the architecture I want to be easily made (Sc4 would work, but I can't use the Architect for my life), and it'll be cool to have my own vehicle designs running around.
    B. Combat. I'm a little more war oriented then the standard SC4 player, and I think it will be cool to finally have cities attacking each other. Of course, the enemy winning will be out of the question11.gif
    C. Full rotation 3D. This one doesn't make as big of a differance, but I'm a very visual player, and have to inspect my cities from every possible angle to make sure they're right.

    The things I'm concerned about:
    A. Small scale worlds. The only pictures I've seen of Spore have been from Will's virtual world, and each city there is tiny. For that matter, the planet it tiny. Now if this game is totally user based, then we should be able to allow for a huge planet (I'd like one scaled to at least the moon) and huge cities (at least as large as a large city tile in SC4). My biggest problem with every game I've ever bought is there isn't enough room to do what I want.
    B. High speed evolution. I'm the type of person who'll play the sims without ever accelerating the time, and still think the game is going to fast. I'm the same way on a large scale. I don't want to jump into city mode and before I even finish my park design be thrown into gallactic mode.
    C. Cartoonishnish. After seeing the industrial civilization in Will's game, I'm far less worried about this, but it is still a concern.

I'm not to interested in the evolution part of the game, I was kind of hoping for more of a Sim Empire game, where you can build the capital city of your 'empire' for all of the simcity fanatics, but where you can create armies to conquer other empires for all of the Civilization fanatics, and where you can expand to other planets.

this game just adds a whole new aspect-you don't have to be human!

this is eaither going to be really good or it could completely bomb.

just gonna have to wait and find out.
