When people abrieviate like (WFC) it's really annoying and hard to understand.

Yes, I know. If you don't know much about the subject and its abbreviations, you may feel sort of dumb and annoyed.

Yes the WFC complex consists mostly of the 4 large buildings in front of the WTC. They are probably my favorite peices of architecture in the US i just love the way they look and there being designed by Cesar Pelli is an added bonus. I just wish that the new WTC could be more architectually pleasing right now the WFC looks rather awkward with the WCT missing behind it. Oh and if you dont plan to do the complex then i may give it a shot DT.

Hey Rubik, just out of curiosity, have you tried using any of the 3DSMax shaders like falloff and reflect/refract with gMax? I'm missing them sorely, but I never thought of using 3DSMax's in gMax. I wonder if its possible.

Thank you kenneth! Unfortunately, I neither live in New York City nor own a camera. 1.gif I've been researching the World Trade Center as a hobby for a few years and have come across some good photographs from many different websites.

I remember you mentioned before that you are a New Yorker. For a couple of months now I have been a member of the Wired New York forum, a useful discussion board with a heavy focus on New York City architecture. You might appreciate it; it's a great information resource on the city.

I thought kid_a was working on the World Financial Center in NY, but more BAT'ers working on the same buildings are fine with me.

Kid_a has the WFC in the queue to do, but I believe he said it was one of the last ones he was going to work on as he wanted to hone his GMAX skills so that they would look top notch.

This project looks better everyday.
I hope I can make stuff that good when I get into the architecture school at U of M.

I figured Rubik was an architect. <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>

to avoid issues like this, we should make a thread with each BATter announcing major projects like this- a bullitin board or something.

I thought about that but even if you could import the extra stuff, Maxis' renderer wouldn't support it.  You might be able to get the option to add the functions, but all they would do is look pretty and do nothing...just like the reflection and bump maps.

I went ahead and did a test export to see how the hotel would look next to the towers, and I think the hotel is a tad too light.  I added in some daytime lights so it threw all of my materials out of whack.

Don't mind the overlap problems as I just rapidly threw this lot together.

Well, that looks good. I think Drew has a point. Brown for the base? I'll assume that isn't permanent.

Well at least around the hotel the base had a stone facade.  I think the color might be a little oversaturated but it will stay basically the same.  And like I said I just rapidly threw the lot together.  Custom base textures will come later.

    but the stone is really........dotty.

the old screenshots you had of the hotel base were smoother and much better looking. but the hotel itself is so perfect!

The stone looks dotty because it is only a draft render.  On high quality it will look much smoother.

Currenly I have the base as the building so it changes heighth depending on the slope of the lot.  I think it might be why i'm getting the funky shadows on the base textures, and it's also why the hotel pokes through at the bottom.

in reference to the 93' bombings, which building did the car go under? and is there an on site parking lot because the car was under the building.

There was an underground parking garage that was used for public parking up until the bombing, the goal of which was to topple the towers by causing the north tower to fall onto the south tower.

Because of the offset placement of the towers, that would seem like too complex of a plan to carry out...but when you consider where the bomb was detonated, you can understand exactly how the terrorists intended for it to happen.

The memorial fountain was directly over the spot where the bomb exploded underground. The fountain was located very close to the north tower, and very close to the invisible line between the towers, which each twin touched.

Now that is one informative person! Good job with your research, BigMac. I think we all learned something good today thanks to you. You seem to be right on top of the facts when ever someone is curious. I never knew that the World Trade Center was so complex. I always thought it was just two towers, a hotel, 4 surrounding office buildings (Counting building 7 across the street), and a simple 5 acre plaza in the middle. Now I know! Thanks again!

    That's in game isn't it ?

Looks really good & I know it'll look better as the rendering will be upped.

Woulfe, if you're saying that the WTC is in the game, then you are mistaken. Rubik3 has made the WTC Twin Towers, and the other 5 buildings are on their way.

I think he (woulfe) is well aware of that. I think he is referring to rubik3 testing the complex out within the game that he rendered himself to test out privately.

Sorry about my absence, I've been busy with some web design as well as a couple of paying renderings...gotta pay for the bills somehow, and unfortunately no matter what I do, the BAT won't put food on the table.

I'm getting close to finished on the hotel, I just need some ideas for roof junk on the lower roofs, as well as some additional night lighting.

There you are; we were getting worried. <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif>

Do you have a website where we can see your web design work? I am interested because I do web design as well.

You need to checkout your thread at SCC. There's a few comments, but a lot of people are looking at the photos, just not saying anything.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/41.gif>

As for the hotel, that looks great. We really need to start a Rubik donation fund because than the BAT would put food on the table.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/21.gif>
