  1. Introduce Yourself Here!

Hello all, I am Ignacio from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I am 20 years old. Currently I am finishing my finance and international relations studies in Boston, and I'll be back home in time for Summer! I have loved Sim City ever since the first version came out. I can't wait for the people at Maxis to turn SimCity into SimNation and expand the role of the government! I am just dying to divert reseources into a war machine and attack my neighboring cities over territorial claims and such :-D Can you guys tell I'm into gaming or not really?
  2. I have been working on a master region. I downloaded a huge region with Puerto Rico (including its islands: so the whole archipielago). The one bummer that I see in Sim City is that you can't build realistic rivers. you can't make a river start in the mountains and go DOWN to the ocean...it has to be built all at sea level. This is a bummer since Puerto Rico has over 80 rivers and well, it takes away a lot of the fun of bridges and such. I am not trying to replicate Puerto Rico as it actually is detail for detail, I am trying to replicate the urban development but only with minor similarities. I made a list of when all the towns were founded and I have been developing them accordingly. I start out by building exclusively farming communities with some light comerce in the center. From there, I go expanding each town until they have a little over 2000 people. Then I start connecting the towns with some regular roads. I bring in bigger farms and continue the developement. Eventually, I go to the capital and I begin heavy industry. I zone commercialy on the main roads and build residential zones in the areas I believepeople would realistically live in. If I see a residential zone abandoned due to traffic, then Ire-zoneit commercially. Also, I use seaports and rail to connect industrial areas and try not to use roadsto conect cities, however, a main highway here or there is always good. Inall, Ive learned that by controlling development from light to heavy and slooowly adding in services and utilities, I experience a well-diversified city with efficient transportation, little abandonment and defined neighborhoods. Also, I solve the long commutes that people have to suffer when you develope cities en-masse. In conclusion, you should start out with a farmming comunity and slowly expand. Even when my city is huge, I develop plenty of farms in the outskirts to support the economy. I find it highly realistic and better fordevelopement.
  3. The big dig

Oh yes they did. Boston now has a lot less traffic. The highway system is amazing. I wish Sim City had underground highways like these. The highway goes right under a 52story skyscraper and the financial district! it also crosses the bay! Intersections happen underground...it is amazing.
