This is a mod that stops low density Maxis R$$$ (the huge, sprawling mansions) from growing in your game. But the higher density R$$$ condos and apartments still grow, as well as 2 of the smaller 2X2 high wealth homes that blend in better. INSTALLATION: Simply unzip and place the DAT file in your documents/SimCity 4/plugins folder. No dependencies. CREDIT GOES TO ANDREAS ROTH FOR THIS TUTORIAL: If you are comfortable with using Ilive's reader to mod, you can make a similar effect to any degree you want if you are unhappy with any of the things this mod allows you to grow. Simply take any existing block-all-R$$$ mod, highlight any of the exemplars which represent the buildings you still want to grow, delete those exemplars and save as a new DAT. -
It's not incrededibly realistic, but I don't think that's what you're going for. The sprawl is impressive and the city seems very functioning - a good thing many CJs feature entirely "modelled" cities that look nice but have no real life. Matarva is a nice, dense city and I enjoyed the pictures so far and the teaser looks interesting.

*Central Tile 100% Urbanized
boon1234 commented on _marsh_'s City Journal Entry in Sault Ste. Marie: Natural Growth
Wow! I also used Sault Ste Marie for a natural growth region a while back. I love how youve used custom content in a normally maxis-prone concept, it looks really good. Great work. -
Wow, look at all those neat items on the STEX!

I have no problem with cheats or building plopping, mostly because I like to play for realism. Most of my commerical and industrial buildings are plopped, my road layouts are mostly eye-candy and I do not worry about traffic or population. Rarely do I grow anything. But I also get a kick out of removing most of my non-essential plugins and leaving things like NAM, RHW, SAM (basically most of the NAM addons) with maybe three or four other things that do not cheat gameplay. I do this when I feel like playing the "natural growth" style that started here at Simtropolis. -
MAPS... San Pedro and Mesias

Nice work! This is a great CJ. -
It is unlikely that a game called "Simcity 5" as a direct successor to Simcity 4 will ever come out. Not in the way we would like it to. Maybe a game like Simctiy will come out, and our best hope is that it will be as open-ended and customizable as Simcity 4. Imagine Cities XL but with the custom options like BAT and LE that Simcity 4 has.

Nice work so far! I like the trams.

CJ's : are they 'modeled' cities, or 'played' cities?
boon1234 replied to jigsaw's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
The way I play has changed drastically. When I first started playing the game, I was not aware of plugins, or simtropolis etc. So I 'played' cities naturally, with the never ending intetion of getting a huge city filled with skyscrapers. I rarely built a region, rather just building out one city tile and then moving on. Then after I discovered plugins, I cheated alot with mods etc. I built massive regions of skyscraper forests for some reason and it interested me. Then slowly, my skills improved and I got more and more plugins and built realisitc cities. I stopped caring about functioning cities and started building model cities - plopped buildings, etc. It eventually got to the point where every lot was plopped and nothing was grown. Recently, I discovered CGS Natural Growth MD at sc4devotion and moved out all my plugins and returned to basics. I've been playing cities naturally as they would grow in real life - based on CGS's ideas on gameplay. It's the most interesting experience I've had with simcity 4 so far. -
Planned communities & building plopping
boon1234 replied to sicarim's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
If you zone for residential in the areas you plan on plopping, let anything grow there. Then plop the residentials over the top of the zoned buildings, and it shouldn't abandon. -
Nice work! The one problem I have is the roof's incroguance with the next's building roof (see the gap). The texture could be less extreme I think, too. But great work, I'll download them.

I wasn't sure whether to put this in the lot editor section or here. I keep hearing about RaphaelNinj'as tutorial on making your own prop groups but I can't find it. Does anyone know how to do this, or where to find the original tutorial? Thanks!

Update IX - Censing the Journalist
boon1234 commented on mightygoose's City Journal Entry in The Iron Coast
Wow! This is now one of my favourite CJ's at the moment, and there's only been one picture with ANY buildings in it! :P I love how you showed exactly how you made the region in every step, and the entire idea of a steampunk CJ is great. I can't wait to see how you do it. -
Stopping low density maxis R$$$ from growing?
boon1234 posted a topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Is there a mod or method to stop low density R$$$ (the mansions) from growing in my game? I have the block all maxis R$$$ but I want the medium and high density R$$$ to show up, just not the mansions. Is there a way to do this? thanks! -

Thanks andreas, works great. I had tried to make all mansions begone from my game with Reader, but I only knew the basic controls. I didn't think of editing the existing mod. Should I release the DAT I made or just make a tutorial or something? Cause I know lots of players hate the mansions. -

Dowry Island History: Dowry Island, somewhere off the coast of lower California, was established in the 19th century as a US fishing town. Now, although it's population is mostly fisherman and their families, it has had some citizens from the mainland move in for the great views (of the fish-gutting factory) and the virtually crimeless township of Dowry. Township of Dowry. Main street from the north. Fish processing plant. The local beach. Some close up shots. NEXT UPDATE: some growth and farm shots!

Dowry Island - Tropical town to resort city?
boon1234 replied to boon1234's topic in SC4 City Journals
REPLIES TmiguelT: Thanks! ironicepitome: Thanks! I hope I prove myself. newyorkrunaway1: Cool, hope you enjoy. Larks2242: Thanks! Petrovar Ambassador: Ha! Thanks, hope you enjoy. UPDATE: Here's a new image of Dowry island. The population of Dowry island has exploded to over 15000. Here's the island's downtown. Some suburbs. Some small shops lining the streets. More downtown stores. Now, especially for this update, I'd like to show the next town over, Murgott Point. Murgott Point is known for it's largely rich population. In recent years, plans for a recreational harbour/resort project has been planned. The golf course that the mansions surround. Finally, some mansion shots. Hope you enjoyed this update! -

Thanks, mayorm! TEASER UPDATE: There has been massive growth at Dowry. The main street has expanded greatly, as has the suburbs... more on that later though. Some modern beach homes. DOWRY BEFORE: DOWRY AFTER: UPDATE 2 - The next town over, and even more growth! -
I own a laptop, I know you can't change graphics cards. Simcity 4 Rush Hour is painfully slow loading. Display Device: Mobile Intel ® 4 Series Express Chipset Family Driver: igxprd32.dll I have a lot (+1gig) of plugins, and to tell the truth the slowness is more in the loading of menus. Is there some way to make loading quicker? Visual options are all at the lowest. How would I go about updating this graphics driver, if it's possible on a laptop?

Thanks you guys! Datpack really helped my game. I just made my first city in six months since getting the laptop

Throughout this CJ, I will give the members of Simtrop the opportunity to the plan the growth of the this town. Where to develop what, hopw to lay it all out is all up to you. Some very astute planners will be given titles and departments to head, to procces planning submission for me. But first, the town you will be building? Fort Krinses is a small town, population 310, that formed along the mouth of the Krinses River. It is so named for the militray training barracks that exist a few miles down the highway from the main town. It's residence have to drive out of the district for schools, and there is one small clinic iin the main street. It's primary resource is fish and seafood. On any day, the smell of freshly slaughtered octopus fills the town like an unpleasant reminder that some people like to eat octopus. The tiny, tiny fishing harbor that is a neccisity for the town to exist. An overview with the military barracks visible. Another town overview with the parcel of land (4X8) that is available for you to plan! PLANNING OVERVIEW: You can plan where to put roads or streets, what to zone for, what to place, and exatcly where to put all of these things, using the grid below (1 square = 1 sc4 grid). Parcel size: Have a go and comment!
