do you use milestones to build those big, beautiful cities?

hi, I am sort of a noob at cities skylines, and I can't really get past grand city because of a bunch of problems, mostly because of the annoyance of having to destroy all of the abandoned industry buildings, this is a big problem for me, so today I tried do not build industry buildings at all, and my little hamlet was having extremely slow growth, so I just had to add an industry section. my town started growing, but i'm wondering how many of your big cities have no industry. can I please have some help.
