Metal shader effect gone
hadece replied to hadece's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
@Darf it's not the colour that bothers me, but the huge difference between asset editor and ingame result. I thought I made a mistake in the importing process. @Ronyx69 Good to know that there is no metal shader. The asset creation guide on steam stated that specular maps can create metallic and chrome effects when the brightness is around 80 to 90%. And indeed the specular light is coloured on my asset in the editor. Therefore I thought the metal shader exists. (With coated I just meant the usual specular effect. It looks like a coated surface... you know, like car paint.) Thanks for your help guys!- 8 Replies

Metal shader effect gone

Sadly, reloading and saving the asset again changed nothing. In asset editor it looks fine and ingame is still candy party.- 8 Replies

And here I am again. This time I struggle with not appearing metal effects. I used the specular map for the lanterns (80 to 90% brightness). In asset editor the shader works fine. The colours don't show when editing them (used the lounger as template) but at least ingame they do. But not the metal effect. Instead, everthing is super bright and saturated. the example shows the copper version (I think). Its bright orange ingame. I tried the illumination map in black and 192-gray. It has no normal map (yet). the diffuse colour is a grey tone. Theme and LUT are the same in both screenshots. Is this normal behaviour for props? Can I force the metal shader ingame or do I have to work with the "coated" effect? Additional note: I wanted to use the rotors shader as well. Does it work with metal and do you control it with the alpha map?

SOLVED: Normal Map light inverted (back and front)
hadece replied to hadece's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
That might be. You mentioned somewhere else that you use Normal Map online (or something similar). I used CrazyBump. Again a big "Thank you" for your help!- 8 Replies

SOLVED: Normal Map light inverted (back and front)

Thanks Ronyx for that detailed answer and for the PS action as well! That was just the info I needed. I did struggle a little and achieved the wished result only by Level adjustment and switching G and R in your saved process. Did I mess things up in the beginning? Here's my process: Now you mention that normal and specular maps are combined: Does this count for the terrain normal maps as well? I tried some while ago to add a specular to the glossy winter cliffs via PNG. But that didnt work, it just blew up my overall theme MB size, so I did not examine it further.- 8 Replies

SOLVED: Normal Map light inverted (back and front)

I'm trying to exchange the building base texture and I discovered something strange: Its "normal map" inverts light. It does not behave as other normal maps in the theme editor. When exchanging it, the lighting of the object inverts, as if the mesh's normals are inside out. Beside that, the vanilla map does not appear like the classic normal map, its a light grey. I searched google if this is a unity problem but only found the already known green channel inversion tip. That didnt help, as alot of other experiments didn't. Does someone know what the settings for the building base "normal map" are? Or how to export it for further examination?- 8 Replies

SOLVED: One side of flat object invisible
hadece posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Summary: I'm looking for a way to make both sides of a flat object visible ingame. (Sorry in advance if this is described somewhere already, I searched the forums but did not find a solution.) I'm building an water lily asset made out of flat planes for decent performance. While it looks fine in blender, as soon as I import it into the cities skylines asset editor, one side of my planes is invisible. Some people mentioned this problem already in the past so my question is: Has someone come up with a solution to make both sides of a plane visible without duplicating it? Help would be very much appreciated <3- 2 Replies
