Argh<crash>the game keeps<crash>quitting on<crash>me!

Ooookay. Thank the powers that be that there are helpful people around. 3 ghz processor, 2 gb ram, 256 mb graphics card, windows xp service pack 2, aaaaand 1.5 gb virtual memory. I'd have been able to find this a lot faster if this had been a mac, so thanks a lot for the google idea. Saved me a headache there. Now let's see if I can figure out how to move this thread to Bugs as you suggest. Good point, that. -

Hmmmm... The computer should be more than capable of handling the game but I guess I'll give it a rest, then fire it up later and wait for it to go kaboom, so I can feel the tower up. Yay. -

I am running SC Deluxe on a machine that should have more than enough of everything to run the game without delay or problems. I even removed my NAM install to make sure that wasn't bogging anything down. And sure enough, everything floats along nicely like a squirrel on rollerskates until suddenly - crash, quit, exit. I can't find any pattern to this except that it happens every 20-30 minutes. It is obviously extremely frustrating to have to save every other minute in order not to lose everything. It also makes it kind of difficult to save, experiment and only save if the experiment turned out okay. Suggestions, anyone? -
Frustrating Ferry Issues
Birgitte Heuschkel replied to isc9114's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I have a question as well regarding ferries: Will they transport people from city to city, across the boundaries, or only inside one city? -
Hahaahaha! Interesting interpretation of Pterry's geography, too. On DiscworldMUD we tend to place the Circle Sea a bit off to the west (with Klatch beyond), and then the Sto Plains in all other directions, with the Morpork Mountains to the somewhat distant east. Fascinating! Oh, incidentally... Since this is the River -Ankh- we're talking about, I presume that all water squares can be built at least roads and R$ housing on, given its solidity? ;)

I went to the archive and downloaded everything. I then tossed out everything that was marked as Rush Hour or Deluxe, because I don't have those expansions. I read carefully through the tutorials and related threads and tossed all .dat files into the game's plugin folder and all lot/model files into the documents/plugins folder, and made sure that the htmls and jpgs etc all were removed. A couple of the plugins actually show up as new content. The vast majority, however, shows up as ugly brown packages. I'm reading now that the mac archive is being discontinued in favor of a program (fruit juicer) that I can't run on my Jaguar. Is it correct to assume that I'm missing a gazillion prop files that don't exist in the archive, and that the only choice I'm left with is nuking it all and going back to the game's original content only? .... Oh, and setting graphics etc to max is still only showing me ugly green squares for playgrounds, gazebos etc. In short, I don't think this game likes me.

I look at other people's cities and see all sorts of fancy graphics for parks and recreational areas. The little gazebos are actually little gazebos, there are like, swings at the playground and whatnot. All I see in my game is different colors of flat green squares. Any ideas?
