Hello,
I'm very glad to find this community and hope it can help me in a labor of love I'm about to undertake.
First, as an introduction I have enjoyed city building games since SimCity 2000 but only dabbled in the subsequent releases. I'm a civil engineer by trade with strong interests in city planning and multi-modal transportation.
Now for this project. (Please feel free to tell me where to direct this post if it doesn't belong here.)
I would like to model my own resident city (is this common? to me it would seem so). My primary objective is to model my own city and then test transportation improvements. This is all just for fun but I think it would be extremely interesting to model an city and then actual proposed transportation improvements (new highways, lane widening, etc) and see what happens.
What is the best game for this? SimCity 4? SimCity (2013)? Cities Skylines? I own a copy of SimCity 4 Deluxe but am open to acquiring another if it's the right fit.
Also, with the emphasis on transportation I'm very interested in implementing mass-transit (buses, subways, any rail), bike lanes along roads, dedicated bike greenways (bike lanes entirely separate from roads), pedestrian thoroughfares, etc. What's the best platform for this?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
