stick a fork in Hillary....her ride is over....

Originally posted by: Barbarossa I found this article to be entirely appropriate: Linkie I think that McCain's chances of winning are becoming more realistic everyday and the Democrats will shoot themselves in the foot. As is known, I am an Obama supporter and I do not like Hillary Clinton very much, at all. Besides, I do not support dynastic politics... I do not want to see Bush > Clinton > Bush > Clinton. I support whole-heartedly the idea of Change and a breath of fresh air to clean out these musty old men (and women). Anyhow, if Hillary gets the nomination, as much as it grates against my bones, I just may not vote this time. I certainly will not vote for McCain, but I do not know, now, if I can stomach a Hillary presidency. Barbarossaquote> Ditto...

She simply does not have the numbers.quote> Oh I know that, but to be honest, I don't think that is going to be as important as I previously though. The super delegates, as I stated previously are going to decide and no-one really knows what they will go with or how they will decide.quote> The super delegates will not go against the popular vote (maybe the delegate totals, but not the popular vote)...the party of Thomas Jefferson won't do that.quote> Super delegates have gone against the popular vote. They can do whatever they want. There were several who had already chosen the candidate they were going to throw their support behind. I was watching the Colbert Report, and one of the super delegates came on the show and claimed he was for Obama, in a time when he was still several percentage points behind Hillary. They also got into a discussion how super delegates don't have to go by the popular vote, and can do whatever they please because of their status.quote> Individual super delegates have declared support...yes. But that doesn't mean that they are stuck with their decision. After the last state has spoken, the collective of super delegates will not through their support behind the candidate with the least popular vote. Super delegates can change their mind who they support any time up to and during the convention. Remember...Howard Dean had the support of the super delegates early on and as he began to lose primaries and caucuses they jumped ship....

I've stated this a few times here. I do think by the summer Obama will have the greater number of delegates but Hillary will have the popular vote. Then the super-delegates will have that choice to make. Though several people has so far stated to me that popular vote is not always important, I disagree. I also agree with the point someone made about the Democrats shooting themselves in the foot in the way they award delegates. I would have liked to see the winner in each state tale all the candidates and not the proportional system the democrats use. I think this recent election race will make them look at the rules again.quote> Hillary will not win the popular vote....without recounts in Michigan and Florida (which are not going to happen) there is no chance for her to win. To even come close she would need huge victories in Penn. and W. Virginia that just aren't shaping up. I will be somewhat surprised if she will take it to convention, especially since her election money is starting to dry up. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9147.html

Originally posted by: cityartgrl4 All this flap about Obama's preacher only proves one thing to me and that is that the Republicans are experts in manipulating public opinion by diverting issues, overemphasizing other people's faults and and silencing the press when they have a similiar controversy. This story has been running for a week now, but where was the week long coverage of McCain supporter Hagee, or the fact that Hillary Clinton belongs to a fascist religion who call themselves The Family, who only admit rich powerful people no matter how evil they are, incliuding Nazis, ex nazis, and deposed murderous tyrants. Obama was doing really well in all over the country, before all this crap about his old preacher. the republicans, hillary included, are scared to death that a man with principles, honor and intelligence will become president. They threatened to kill him in the press, because they know he will only tow the line so far. Yeah, he's kissing up to Israel, like all the rest of them, but he also is willing to listen to the palestinians. They're scared, and that is what it all boils down to.quote> dude....you've been a member of this site since 2004 and only now you decide to post in a thread?

I could see Hillary taking Obama on for the VP slot if she wins the nomination. She will need his supporters to come to her side if she is to win the election in november. However, I can't see Obama taking Hillary as his VP...I would be very surprised. We are now running out of states left to vote. There is no way Hillary will beat Obama in the total states won category. He is very likely to beat her in the delegate totals (I heard on MSNBC that he only needs to win 45% of the remaining vote to win the pledged delegate total, something he should be easily able to do). That leaves the popular vote. Excluding a redo in Florida and/or Michigan, he should win this category as well. If they do allow redos then Hillary might be able to pull this off. I think her only chance of winning the nomination is to fight for these contests to re-vote and try to steal the popular vote from Obama. If he holds the popular vote lead, and the pledged delegate lead, and the most states won lead...I can't see how she could make a case to the superdelegates to be the nominee.

Originally posted by: Micah Originally posted by: zane900 My guess is if Hilary wins the democratic nomination and McCain wins the republican nomination McCain will get elected. If Obama wins the democratic nomination the democrats will probably have much more of a chance.quote> I used to believe that, but I actually think Hillary would be more of a challenge. McCain could wipe Obama out of the water by simply bringing up the issue of "experience" and "liberal" and McCain would get a huge boost. Most people don't realize how liberal Obama actually is which the center won't like, me included. So far, Obama has personality and great orator (sp?) skills.quote> In the newest national polls...Obama beats McCain, outside of the margin of error. Hillary is in a statistical tie with McCain.

Well...the leader of the DNC (Howard Dean) is saying that the dem contest will be decided in 6-8 weeks. Most pundits think (as well as both campaigns) that both Obama and Clinton will have equal delegate counts going into the convention. I think that the statement by Dean suggests that the party officials will wait and see how ohio, texas, and pennsylvania play out and then the super delegates in the party will pick one of the candidates so that this thing can be over before the convention. Clinton has more super delegates now, but Obama has been picking them up like gangbusters...of course super delegates can change their mind all the way until convention....I think many feel that Obama has the momentum now, he has been handily out fundraising Clinton, and it will be interesting to see how this thing plays out.
