Rock textures and general newbie stuff
0s1r1s replied to 0s1r1s's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Thanks for the help and comments I have optimised my game a little... I force running with one core and a few other things. My laptop is busted ha but I get perfect frame rates when I turn shadows to low. Luckily my processor and memory is quick...just the dodgy dual graphics which I seem to have problems with. Using Windows 7 at the mo. I'll see what I can do tho and try to get some more out of it,although I really hope to be able to get a new pc soon. I've recently conquered using the NAM and real highways I think... After nearly giving up currently making a nice low density but very posh housing estate around an intricate canal layout too, in a region that I edited the boundaries of with the image file, and then terraformed from scratch. Having a lot of fun. I'll post some screen shots in a new thread when I'm further along! It's definitely impressive what the modders have done with this now seemingly ancient technology! And great that it's still going strong. I have the fondest memories of simcity...2000 was the first game I got really into! This one with all the mods is just like the ultimate lego set! and I can see how one could put 1000s of hours into creating your own Miniature world. I'd love to see what these modders and developers could do if they started from scratch and tried to redesign and perfect this old format and game engine, but keeping it really true to its roots. Reminds me of roller coaster tycoon 3 as well... And the infinite possibilities with that.... And how they just don't seem to make games like this anymore. Or at least, not good ones... -
Hi there I was hoping someone could recommend a rock and grass texture which doesn't slow performance.... HD rock texture looks great but means I have to run in hardware and then get some performance issues it seems. I have a hundred other little queries but I shall keep researching...for now though I also don't seem to have placement arrows on some transit pieces...... Is it obvious which mod I'm missing? And finally... Is the sc4 community still going strong would you guys say? Or have most people switched to cities skyline? Cheers

Good day sirs Sim city 2000 was one of the very first games that fully captured my imagination... I remember I couldn't wait to go to my relatives house and play it, we would stay up all night! I've recently installed sc4 on my laptop to play this game again and mod the crap out of it I have a lot of experience with games a design and art...itll be nice to add my own little tweaks to some of the mods By the way I think what some of the guys do here is pretty damn cool... Very comparable to taking hundreds of hours to create a beautiful model in real life....designing, painting and placing each piece. And it's wonderful it's still going strong after years... May it continue with the expansion of cities:skyline, and future projects
