Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support
Infinite Hexamon Nexus replied to qurlix's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
First off, I must say that the new Rural Highway Mod is brilliant, simply amazing work. Things like this have made SimCity 4 fun to build with again and you all deserve an incredible amount of thanks for the work you put into it. However, I do need some help with the RHW Mod and I can't seem to find anything to cover it in the readme or the reference guide. Maybe I'm missing something, but when I drag a four lane RHW Mod to the edge of the map to connect it to another city, it appears to connect, but then my commuters won't use it. If I take it out and connect either avenue (just for the connection) or one way roads, my commuters will use that to connect to the neighbouring city. Trucks will use the RHW but not my commuters. Any ideas as to why this may be happening? Am I hooking it up to my neighbouring cities correctly? Thanks for any help.- 3,919 Replies

Network Addon Mod January 2008 Update
Infinite Hexamon Nexus replied to NAM Team's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
I don't often post on this board, but I just wanted to say brilliant work. Absolutely brilliant work. This is one SimCity 4 fan that thinks what you do is simply amazing and that I really appreciate it. -

Mystery of ur nickname
Infinite Hexamon Nexus replied to Amandine's topic in New Members Information
My name comes from Greg Bear's series of science fiction novels, Eon, Eternity and Legacy. In this particular world, an infinitely long interdimensional tube (called The Way) connects the asteroid Thistledown (another nickname of mine on other boards) to an infinite number of worlds and alternate universes. The state which governs Thisltedown and The Way is called the Hexamon and the legislature of the Hexamon is the Nexus. Since The Way never ends, the full formal name is the Infinite Hexamon Nexus. It sounded cool. -
Wikipedia Article Bus Rapid Transit is a system where by bus travel is designed to mimic other forms of rapid transit, such as light rail, by using seperate right-of-ways, bus stops that more closely resemble train stations with faster boarding and higher quality buses. Calgary (my home town) has recently implemented this type of service mostly as prelude to expanding the city's LRT, to begin adjusting transit patterns to support this, but systems in Los Angeles, Ottawa and other cities also use this. What would be the best way in your opinion to simulate this in SimCity? I'm thinking the ANT Network (which to be honest, I have not used) may be useful in developing this, but I'll take any ideas anyone has.

Tramway system in Montreal?
Infinite Hexamon Nexus replied to Saint Andrew's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
While I am all for developing tram service in North American cities, I'm not sure this would be the best use of Montreal's resources. My impression when I visited Montreal last year was that the Metro system was struggling and that perhaps that money could be better spent on some upgrades to the existing system to make it more efficient, as well as some station upgrades. At the moment the Metro is being expanded into Laval and this is the first major extension in over twenty years. That would also be a good use of resources, as I found the Metro system to be good for getting around, but staying in Laval I would have preferred easier access to the Metro which would have made thing even easier. Speaking from having seen Metro's in Taipei and Hong Kong, north American rapid transit systems need a lot of work to catch up to their level of efficiency. -
Calgary's Transit is overall sub-par. The LRT system is efficient and useful, especially if you live downtown or commute there regularly, but the buses are next to useless if you're doing anything other than funnelling you to an LRT station. I'm fortunate that I live close to work and I can walk there, but when I want to visit my family who live on the otherside of the city from me, it's a brutal hour and a half on the bus to get there. With regards to the BRT in SimCity, I'm thinking about creating a series of specialized bus stops that are light rail in style. I've never really played around with the BAT Tool and I'm having some problems getting started, but this seems to be a good place to start.

Calgary does have a BRT service but it's not really a true BRT in the sense of having a dedicated Light Rail style system. I think Calgary Transit just chose BRT because it sounded close to LRT and made it sound cooler. A better example would the Metro Orange Line in Los Angeles, which runs on dedicated busways, with high quality buses and dedicated light rail style stations instead of paying when you board the bus. In Calgray, BRT is basically an express style bus that runs in advance of planned LRT routes. My thought is that ANT could be used to simulate this in SimCity because it looks like regular roads and uses highway speeds. I've never used this part of the NAM but if I understand correctly how it works this may work. Thoughts? Calgary BRT: Calgary Transit Website

Originally posted by: KoolSIM Hi, I need some assistance with the NAMquote> If you download the latest NAM, it has an installer. So it will setup the required files automatically in the correct folder. Download the latest one as soon as the 'Modds & Downloads' section is online again. There is an alternative link for the NAM. Get it here. But I have my doubts on whether it has the installer executable file in it. quote> Thanks for the info. I was actually able to figure it out, although embarassing as this is, I had the whole NAM (all of the files) in my SimCity plugins folder which was making things interesting. Needless to say, once I figured out that I was only supposed to have the one file in my plugins folder, SimCity started operating much better. The new NAM also has some really cool stuff in it so I'm having fun with it.

Hi, I need some assistance with the NAM. While I'm technically not a new member, I have not had much opportunity to enjoy SimCity 4 since I originally signed up and have made little use of Simtropolis (something I hope to change in the near future). Anyhow, my question is: I have the NAM, now what? I have all the files downloaded onto my computer, but how do I put them into my plugin folder to make it all work? Do I put all of the NAM files in, or just the ones I want? The instructions I have don't seem to explain exactly how I do that to select the pathfinding I want. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

I have a request for the next edition of the NAM. What I have found to be the most useful for developing alternative transportation has been the GLR and Ped Mall pieces. What I request for the next version of the NAM is more GLR on Ped Mall puzzle pieces and more Elevated Rail on Ped Mall puzzle pieces, particularly so that you can make turns with both systems. Currently that is the biggest limitation with the Elevated Rail pieces and it would be a nice improvement for the GLR. I would also like to request, if possible, to pair the monorail with Ped Mall tiles, the same way that the Elevated Rail puzzle pieces are. That would be of great benefit to me as well and would probably make the Monorail as the other major elevated rail system much more useful.
