  1. Hey everybody, I just bought a new laptop with 64-bit Vista. Unfortunately, SC4 Deluxe runs EXTREMELY slow on it. It's virtually unplayable with all its stuttering and such. Is this a known problem? Perhaps somebody who had this problem in the past can chime in with a solution. My computer is pretty loaded - it shouldnt be having this problem (it runs Company of Heroes just fine): P8400 @ 2.26 Ghz 4 GB RAM Nvidia 9600M GT (512MB Video RAM) Vista 64-bit Any advice?
  2. RHW - Questions, Errors, and Testing

Thank you for this great reply. I really appreciate it. I definitely installed the optional ANT network, and also the NAM Essentials. And I've played with the RHW before extensively, so I know how to lay it. :-) I think you hit the nail on the head - I think the new mod is conflicting with something in my Plugins. I will try your procedure when I get home from work tonight to see if it works. Also, I'm gonna make sure the RHW's .dat file is in the NAM folder. Is that correct? THANK YOU SO MUCH. If there was some sort of "reputation" to give, I'd give it to you in a heartbeat. Also, it's a testament to how much I love the RHW that my Simcity playing has literally stopped in its tracks while I fix this problem. Originally posted by: haljackey Hmm... When you downloaded the new NAM, did you install the ANT Network? Its an optional plugin! This may be your problem! If the answer is yes, it gets more complicated im afraid! It looks like you may have a conflicting issue with some of your plugins. Something that was compatible with the old NAM/RHW is now incompatible with the newer files. This happened to me, eek! The best way to solve this problem is to move all the files in your plugins folder elsewhere. Then redownload the NAM (Installing the ANT network, too!) , the NAM: Essentials file, and then the RHW network. Make sure that the RHW folder is IN your NAM folder. Then, run the game, preferably in a new city. The RHW network should work properly. Then, theres the painstaking task of moving all your plugins back into your folder to see who the violator is. Try sorting out possible incompatible files from the rest and put these back, in blocks at a time. If one block disrupts the RHW, then you can look into that "block" and find the offender. Now, if THAT doesn't work, I would suggest you have a look at the readme file to make sure you didn't miss anything, unless someone else has a possible solution! Best of luck Johnnyman7! -Haljackey quote>
  3. RHW - Questions, Errors, and Testing

Hello all, I've been lurking this thread for a very long time - and honestly, I never expected to post here. But I just installed the new NAM and RHW last night, and unfortunately, it's not working for me. I followed Tarkus's instructions exactly - first deleting the old NAM, then installing the new one, installing the NAM Essentials, and then the new RHW. When I fire up Simcity, the RHW icon shows up, but when I go to plop the highway the way I did before, it doesnt show up. In other words, it just stays as a road - not switching to the RHW when its supposed to. Am I doing something wrong? I used the prior RHW with no problems at all. Is there a certain order that the RHW has to be loaded in the Plugins folder? Thanks in advance for the help.
  4. Anduin Valley Revisited

Hi Darmok, Long time lurker, first time poster. I have a (hopefully) simple question for you: Back on page 142, I noticed that you extensively use fences in your landscaping - both next to roads and in open grassy areas. I really want to use these fences in my region, but I'm having a hard time finding them on STEX. Can you point me to what fence BATs/Lots you use? Thanks in advance. And keep up the amazing work!
  5. Must Have Downloads

Pardon my ignorance, but there is a special section devoted to "highest rated"? I just thought it was a filter on the search page...not it's own seperate section....
  6. Show us your most unique and creative transportation network!

I agree....how did you do that? When I try to place off-ramps, the game automatically places a one-way road on the tile that the off-ramp ends...so the transition from ramp to one-way-raod isnt seamless (it looks like the road starts before the one-way ramp intersects it). How did you get it to look like this?
  7. Well if you think like that, then isnt EVERY freeway just a larger version of a street? Of course it is! But that doesnt make it any less cool. Nooneatall: I like the idea of variable-width medians. It just gives you one more layer of customization to your rural areas.
  8. This would be TIGHT if it could be pulled off. Seperated highways with a large median?! Shoulders?!?! Are we talking SimCity 4 or SimCity 5 here??? Great, great idea.
  9. Sims wont use major arteries

This is a great post. I think when Maxis engineers were designing SM4, they were probably hoping all of us would become make-believe city planners, discussing real-life planning problems in a friendly community. And look at us! The truth is, this happens all the time in real life. Hell, at least twice a day, I take a street to get to a destination where an avenue would be just as convenient. But maybe I dont want to deal with the traffic on the avenue. Or maybe I think it will be extra congested today. Traffic in LA can be bad (shh..thats a secret). This is what I like about SM4: I'll design a neighborhood on Pause with streets and all. As soon as I start time again, problems pop up that I didnt predict. So I work to correct those problems...transforming some streets to roads...making other streets dead-ends so Sims cant use it as an alternative. And after some work, the neighborhood is exactly what I desire it to be. If it were all so easy to plan, SM4 would be uninteresting. Look at it that way, and it wont be so annoying to you.
