I was born in Detroit city though, and moved to Ann Arbor when I was little. Most of my family is still scattered all over the suburbs of Detroit.

Date: 7/15/2005 2:01:02 PM Author: nofunk Here are a couple of my hometown, Ann Arbor, Michigan! You are from A2 too! Just had to add a couple more pictures of Ann Arbor... This one shows the University of Michigan Football stadium Here is the U of Michigan medical center. I work in that bunch of buildings. If you look real close, you can probebly see people getting in fist fights over parking spaces.
  4. Date: 7/26/2005 12:42:06 AM Author: miptag almost every road in the Detroit area every year it seems like half the roads were under construction Not only are the roads all over Detroit under construction constantly, all that construction doesnt seem to fix anything. Detroit has possibly the worst roads in the U.S., or close to it. Ive been to all 50 states (and all Canadian provinces), and ive never seen any roads with so many potholes as Detroit. Also, I-94 going across Michigan is a big construction zone every summer it seems too. Although the Alaska highway is really bad, and lots of construction every spring. Winters are really bad for roads, all that freezing and thawing.

When I was younger and much better looking. This is 1970 in my snowsuit, in Detroit. Here is a school picture. I was the last one in my class to have my picture taken, and my entire class was standing there staring at me in silence, while my picture was taken. My mother was torturing me, making me wear that red ruffley shirt. Looks like a shirt Prince would wear. Wow, You looked like a very nice and decent child. How are you today? *also post a picture of you as of now. Thanks, my whole family is pretty much the Brady Bunch, including all the Aunts, Uncles and cousins. A lot more so in the 70's before there was a tv in every room and computers. All the relatives, we used to get together all the time and we'de play board games, darts, croque. We'de go sledding and ice skating a lot, and we'de all pile into our olive green station wagons with fake wood paneling on the sides, and go to Yellowstone or Mount Rushmore. Those were fun days. Practicly every other weekend at our favorite Michigan hang outs like Greenfield Villiage, Frankenmuth and the Detroit Zoo. Im still very old fashioned, but I dont like to wear dresses, and most of my clothes come from the thrift shop, so I dont look like the Brady Bunch. Everyone is probebly going to puke, another pic of me, but this is what I look like now. The teddy bear is really embarassing. That belongs to a friend of mine. I complained he was neglecting his bear, and now I take him with me all over the world, and take pictures with him to show my friend. I have a stuffed giraffe named Rudolf. Also, I love your hair guinea! Looks cool!

  7. The Simtropolis Closet

I am straight, but im so happy to see these days that people are much accepting to being gay. When I was a kid in Detroit, if a guy just wore a pink shirt, he got beat up. Nobody admitted to being gay then. My cousin came out of the closet a few years ago, and I was worried that my aunt and uncle would have a heart attack. The older generation in my family is very Catholic, and kind of old fashioned, but they have even changed with the times. Everyone in my family accepted my cousin being gay immeadiatly, and we all love him the same. His partner has become part of the family also, and we all love him too. Now, its no big deal if somebody admits to being gay, compared to when I was younger. I cant imagine how hard it must of been, like for people I went to high school with years ago, to have to pretend to be somebody they're not, if they were gay.

I like your pictures GB, keep them coming! Ok, everyone look away, here is a few pictures from my vacation... This is at Denali park in Alaska. I had just spent the night in a tent, when it was only 38F (3 or 4C), so I was frozen stiff. Going up in the mountains didnt help in warming me up. Here is my trusty VW, at the sign marking the arctic circle in the Yukon, Canada. By the time I got off that 486 mile (777km) gravel highway, you couldnt tell what color my car was, it was so caked with mud. I got 2 flat tires, one after another, not long after this was taken. Waited hours before I saw someone, and got help, its so remote up there. This is horseback riding in Healy, Alaska. My smileys arent as good as Mashers. My horses name is Klondike, and he was not too excited about going out for a ride. He wanted lunch. The ground was very uneven and my hand is still sore from hanging on so hard.
  10. The Leaving / Returning Thread

I dought that anyone even noticed, but ive just returned from a 3 week road trip, driving from Michigan, to Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Canada, and Alaska, and then back home again. Didnt quiet make it to Inuvik, but got within a 100 miles or so, since I got a flat tire in the middle of nowhere in the tundra, past the arctic circle. Then after hours of waiting for another human to come by, and help with the lug nuts, I got flat tire #2, a couple hours later. All in a big rain/snow/wind storm. Had to ride back 2 1/2 hours with my flat tire to the tiny village, then wait for somebody going back to my car. Ide like to know why they decided to use sharp slate rock, for gravel on the Dempster highway! Thank goodness for 24hours of daylight there anyways. I really missed Simtropolis! Now im enjoying modern convienences like telephones, tv (the weather channel), groceries and gas available 24hrs, radio stations. They dont even have dairy products or fruits and veggies up there (or hardly at all). I feel so lucky that I have so much where I live now.
  11. Hows the weather where you live?

Here is a tornado in the midwest where I live, in the U.S.. I was just starting out driving to Alaska, and I was surrounded by tornados, then this one formed in front of me. Luckily, it wasnt heading toward me.
  12. UDI Missions-Overview

Actually, now that I think about it, I dont know for sure if you have to dispatch the fire plane, when there is a fire, in order to get that fire plane mission. Maybe just having a fire triggers it. Even though the fire plane is useless for fires, I always used it to make an easy 70 thousand bucks with the Let it Burn! mission. If you have a lot of fires, it may be worth having the fire plane. The plane works fine for missions, at least when I do them.
  13. How do u make the files work?

Date: 6/5/2005 11:57:55 PM Author: Jerentitus how would I unzip a folder? is there a certain program to do this with?quote> You right click on the folder, and do extract all. That unzips it.
  14. UDI Missions-Overview

If you dont have the manual, you can download it on the SimCity website. That mission for the zoo is tough. You are only offered the mission, if there is a fire, so you have to wait for a fire, then dispatch your fire plane, and the fire trucks. If you only dispatch the plane, the entire city will burn down, before the fire plane ever puts out the fire. Then, after the fire is out, go to the fire plane in the missions, and it should offer it then.

  16. a little trick for all of you

Date: 6/2/2005 8:47:20 AM Author:Klemvast You can reduce the bulldozing cost for highways and avenues by 50%. What you have to do is bulldoze only half of it (so only one 'driving lane'). Cost will be only 50 percent, but the other half will be demolished as well. Thought I would just share it with you. I didnt know about this either, until a week or two ago, when I thought somebody posted about the same thing. Now I cannot find that post anywhere. I think it was in the wrong forum. I had to of read it somewhere recently. Maybe im working to hard....
  17. Weird ST problem

I have a strange problem... whenever im on Simtropolis I lose the sound on my computer. I may hear a little crackling sound, when im supposed to here a sound. Ive tested this for many weeks, and I only lose the sound when im on ST. I may lose it right away, or I could be on ST for a while, before losing the sound. Its not anything in particular I click on, that I lose the sound. I was on the phone with Dell for hours, and there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with my computer or speakers. I run the disk clean-up at least once a day, if not several times, and the disk defrag at least every other day. I have Spy Sweeper, and Aluria Spyware remover, that I run those at least every other day. I have Nortan Internet Security, and I scan for virus several times a week. Whenever I lose the sound, I restart my computer, and the sound comes back. Does anyone have a suggestion on why this is happening. Could it be a spyware my spyware removers arent detecting? I have a feeling this is not happening to anyone else. Thanks if anyone has any suggestions.
  18. Weird ST problem

Date: 6/2/2005 11:57:19 AM Author: Dexter When the sound cuts out, do you get a sort of crackling sound before it happens? If you do, it seems like it is a problem with your speakers, and/or connections. It is very a watery problem and strange that it only happens on ST. Do you do anything everytime you access ST, like move something? Yeah, I do hear a crackling sound. I lose the sound and no particular time, just going through the posts. When I was on the phone with Dell, for a couple hours, they had me do a lot of stuff with my speakers. I just thought of something, I can try taking the speakers from my mothers computer, who has a nearly identical computer, and try them on my computer. Another thing, after I run Spy Sweeper, and I delete all the cookies, my sounds stays on longer. Can a bad cookie from something cause problems?
  19. Weird ST problem

Date: 6/2/2005 10:11:45 AM Author: DuskTrooper Hmm; this may be a bit out there, but, maybe the flash animation at the top could be the cause of your problem? Hey, that may be something. Could you tell me what flash animation is? I dont know very much about computers, but im learning. EDIT: oooh, ok, I just search around and found out what that is. hmmm...
  20. Weird ST problem

Yeah, I didnt think this was happening to anyone else, its just so odd. Im tired of talking to Dell on the phone. They really want to fix this for me, but what a pain. Ide rather just keep restarting my computer for now, maybe do a system wipe sometime. I just had to reinstal everything on my computer, when they replaced the hard drive, that was another several hours with Dell on the phone. Oh well, thanks though.

Date: 6/2/2005 3:57:09 AM Author: miptag howdy im 18 and now live in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, used to live in Dearborn Heights and like it was said before the weather there is crazy. hey marryescher where in michigan do you live Its a small world! I live in Ann Arbor, your from Dearborn Heights, eh? I cant take this weather here much longer myself. Not only are we both from Mich, I have cousins that live in Glenwood Springs! Thats a beautiful place to live. Everything is so expensive there though.
  22. How do u make the files work?

I had the same problem, I couldnt figure out how to get the stuff I downloaded, into the game. Also, I was wondering why all those folders had zippers on them. Finally figured out I need to unzip/extract them. If that is really simple stuff for you, and old news, just save them to your SimCity plugins folder. I made sub folders for BATs, Lots, etc also. You should start to see them in the game then.
  23. Weird ST problem

This only happens when im on Simtropolis. For several weeks ive tested this, and I will surf the net all day, and never lose the sound, then I go on ST, and I lose the sound. Very wierd. My computer is only a few months old, and a couple weeks after I got it, Dell had to replace the hard drive already. I think Dell slaps these compters together so fast, they dont make them very well. I know others with problems too, with their Dell.
  24. Hello Everyone!

Welcome to Simtropolis! Ive been to Winnipeg, and its one of my favorite Canadian bigger cities. I remember going to a nature preserve there, and this really friendly deer walked right up to me. Theres a What do you do? Where do you live? thread with a sticky, this probebly should of gone there...
