Doug FM 93.1 in Detroit. Rock - classic and new, to Frank Sinatra singing "New York, New York". A lot of variety but no bubble gum music and rap, and no Christmas music.

What has happened to you on vacation?
marryescher replied to nathanthemayor's topic in General Off-Topic
Coming home from Australia once was a nightmare, during the blizzard of 1999. I had a red eye flight from Perth to Sydney. I didn't want to pay for another day of hotel and rental car, so I thought I would just wait out the day in the airport, watching planes take off and land. Turned out planes only come in once in a while. Pretty small airport. Spent 11 hours bored out of my mind waiting to leave. Only had 4 hours to try and sleep, flying to Sydney. Then 8 hour layover. Sydney airport was too busy, right after New Years. No place to sit, and you can't even get past the check in counters, until flight is about to board, so nothing to look at. Then my plane was delayed coming in another 1 1/2 hours. A loooong 14 hour flight to L.A. Coming in for a landing in L.A., the pilot said, "Bad news for those of you flying to the N.E.. A blizzard is coming, and every airport is closing. Stuck in L.A. for 2 days. Had a hotel for one day, but another full day spent sitting on the floor of the airport. Then I had the 11pm flight to Boston, when I am trying to get to Detroit. Another night no sleep. Had 5 mins to catch my next plane to Chicago. Flying past Detroit again! Somehow I made it. Then another full day, sitting in Chicago O'Hare. Stood in a line for a couple hours with hundreds of other people, to get my next flight. Then the ticket person said I didn't need to stand in the line, I am all set for next flight. Waiting at the gate for flight to Detroit, no plane in site, and time to board. Announcment came, the plane we were using, is still sitting in Saint Louis. Everyone walked off crushed. I called home and said delayed again, then just sat at the gate, almost in tears. Then I notied the next gate over said it was going to Detroit now, and a plane was there. It was delayed, but I got on it and finally got home! When the plane was landing in Detroit, the pilot said, "Good news folks! It has warmed up in Detroit, it is now zero(F)! When I left Australia, it was 100 (F). It took me 5 days to get home. -

I can't stand it when people throw their cigarette's on the ground, when they are done with them. Especially when people throw their lit cigarette's, into the mulch in my garden, and in the dry grass.

The Chevy Citation was awful. My mother had one, and that is the car I learned to drive in. There was a panel that would fall down onto my feet while driving. When the wheel was turned all the way to one side, it would stall. There were many problems like that. When we would turn the radio on, and the windshield wipers started going instead, it was time to get rid of it. The Eagle Medallian was also another horrible car my mother had. The dealership she used to bring it in to every other week for repairs, kept offering her big discounts on a new car hoping she would get rid of it. They even gave her a new car to drive around for a week to try out. When she traded it in, the dealership was so excited. They sent the car to Florida so they wouldn't have to see it again. They also kept talking about the car for years afterward when she came in.

Those stuffed STD's look like Giant Microbes. I have some of those, but not the STD ones. I have brain cell, black death, bad breath, dust mite and penicillin. -

At work I love the smell of agarose I think it is, when I pore it into plates, and when it is autoclaved. Everyone else always runs away saying how stinky it is. I also love the smell of rain, and sausage cooking, and I love the smell of diesel and gasoline. Wish there was an air freshener with truck stop smell. Can't stand Febreze smell. Can't figure out why so many people like it. Also there is some very glossy paper, that has a very strong smell to it. If I am in the same room with it, I go into violent sneezing fits and can't breath. Haven't seen that paper for years though. I think it is used for typewriters. Almost forgot, molasses smell, I can't stand it. My mother used to make molasses cookies every Christmas, and I would have to go sit on the porch in winter for hours because I would throw up from the smell.

Snow tires for my VW. My city has already announced they are not going to plow as much, or use much salt this winter, because of not enough money. I am excited about snow tires. -
Here is my bike, a Schwinn Mesa GSX: My dog Carl and I used to ride around together until Carl passed away in January.

Gas is only $2.06 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The South side anyways.
-
$2.89/gallon here in Ann Arbor, Michigan also. At least on the cheap side of town. Add 15 cents to the more expensive areas.
-
In my city in S.E. Michigan it has dropped to $3.67/gallon on my side of town. I have seen it as much as 35 cents higher a few miles away. It was up there around $4.20/gallon.

Wow! This looks fantastic! Can't wait to see more!

Here is one of my guinea pigs named Phil: This is Lou relaxing in his chair: My bunny Isolde. She is litter boxed trained and does not have a cage. She runs around free all the time and jumps up on the couch with me. This is Isolde laying in her sand box for digging in. Last is my mouse Stanley. He was an escaped lab mouse from another lab. We kept him as a pet in the lab, and saved him from who knows what horrible experiment, until the boss said he has to go, so he came home with me.

What Topic in School do You Struggle With?
marryescher replied to wir3d's topic in General Off-Topic
When I was in school, speech class was a nightmare. Also in chemistry I barely passed. Kinda funny I went on to work in a lab for the last 18 years. Still not good at speaking in front of people though. -
When I was up in the Northwest Territories, Canada, driving to Inuvik, there was a sign that said there is no stopping because the highway doubles as a runway. The highway is not paved and is made with a lot of pointy slate rock, that gives almost everyone flat tires.
