  3. New York City

  4. New York City

hehe, so you ignored Staten Island too? ;)
  5. Emporis

The fact it can be copied doesn't mean it's legal. So you say that copying windows is legal to because it's possible?
  6. Help Please

Requested link http://www.sc4ever.com/knowledge/showarticle.cfm?id=1103&openItemID=cid.47,cid.45,cid.49 edit: oops, as soon as the sc4ever gets up anyways As for downloading. Let's try to download this map from STEX. What You do is: Click the download map (414 KB) link - a window with a grayscale image apears Right-click the download map (right click and save-as) link and choose save as; choose a location You prevere, for example the My documents folder go back to the first window (You may use the above link again) click at the config.bmp link choose save and save it to the same location as above Now what You do is: create new region, name it somehow close sim city copy the config.bmp file from the location You saved it onto the file located in the region directory (that's as far as I remember C:\Documents and Settings\You\simcity4\regions\region_name); important is to overwrite the existing config.bmp file, meaning, You might have to change the name of the config file You downloaded run sim city open the region You created now press shift-ctrl-alt-r and choose the grayscale file You downloaded first; note that the name should apear in the editbox next to the open button, sometimes it doesn't ( 8O ) so just type the name press open and wait, or better go for a walk now it takes each region from the flat map You had and renders it using the grayscale map file, the usual texts apear at the top of the screen and a flat square is in the middle
  7. Urban Decay

    Now that's an intresting thread!
  8. New New York City

may I ask where did you get all the characteristic buildings (like MetLife or the one with curved wals near Briant's Park) from?
  9. Mermaid Statue

the model looks great from the pictures idea with water is good to nice BAT :)
  10. Station Congestion and Pathfinding.

OK, I see, didn't noticed the stations on the picture, thanks. And the test is very intresting indeed! BTW, it just got on my mind. Isn't it the same for all the on-road bus stops? Meaning doesn't they block road capacity?
  11. Station Congestion and Pathfinding.

Sorry for asking (it shows that I didn't understand something) but how do your sims get to the monorail track without the monorail station? Via bus stops?
  12. Emporis

Eeeem wait. How did www.skyscrapers.com looked like? I figured out that I confused it with www.skyscraperpage.com . If it was always owned by emporis I see no problem, nobody has to use emporis database if he doesn't like to...
  13. Emporis

I think that emporis is amazingly great. It doesn't change the fact that it completely sucks that www.skyscrapers.com is not longer working...
  14. Sham Wan Towers

And according to what T Wreck said it is possible. I like to manipulate the demands, growing this building with let's say 10K people would be an intresting challenge :)
  15. Sham Wan Towers

And could anyone that lives there get know how many people actually lives there? I mean I'd prefer to use it with a real number, because those 6K looks too small for me.
  16. Non-game-play game play

You mean to plop everything and not unpause the game right? Interesting... in some way...
  17. NAM General Discussion Thread

Date: 7/1/2005 4:03:29 AM Author: peecee5050 I've downloaded NetworkAddonMod_Beta_06.17.05.zip. When I try to extract the zip file I receive a dialog box asking for a password, as shown below. It seems that there are several files contained within the zip file that are password protected. What can I do? https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//NAM_zip_password.jpg align=baseline>quote>Are you sure you downloaded it from STEX?
  18. City Size Limit

Date: 6/30/2005 2:14:08 PM Author: jonzjr Maybe I just need more industry with better ways of getting from res to the industry zones? quote>that is the point...
  19. City Size Limit

Search the forums for cap relief. Build a mass transit. 60+ it's a LONG trip.
  20. As for the clean air act it seems it affects only the pollution emission, so basically only industry. And IMO, looking at the dataview the result is quite noticable and changes a lot. You could check how does it look when you have one dirty industrial or one coal plant and nothing around.
  21. My first city... how bad is it?

All advices are good here. I'd suggest to decrease heavy pollution and move commercial to the center of the map. And generally IMO the city is not bad... You're quite dense developed, so your small population is the map size - not your play But I have something that nobody mentioned yet. Decrease fundings in schools and hospitals when you place them! I can see you're like just perfectly health and educated, note it's not always needed at this level. You have to choose if you want to have well educated sims living in wealth areas (and that means low pollution for example) and working in offices or if you want to have low educated workers living in low wealth areas and working in industries. So as for my, the map you have here is for low wealth, so it doesn't need that much education for example. And it doesn't mean you can decrease the funds because it leads to strike. Check a school with the query tool and set it just a bit higher than it should be (number of students vs. number of places). So you can just lower the number and density of schools and hospitals, at least at start. After some time you'll have to build more of them anyway so I'm now talkig about your over 250 years problem than about how does your city look now When using as few civic buildings as possible you can easily handle a small city with windplants to reduce pollution for example. Oh, and search the forums for YIMBY/NIMBY Try to figure out how the game works.
  22. Date: 6/21/2005 3:46:13 PM Author: gpSIM Hey dzi, first of all thanks alot for your map! It's really great and very accurate! I layed a satellite map over it to figure out the scale and the positioning of the different buildings. Unfortunatly I did this after starting my city and I've already created financial district and Greenwich / Midtown. However I will use this satellite image for further developments. Thank you aswell for the WorldWind link, but as an Apple user I'm unable to download the programm... (end of quotation) First of all, and it's very important, I wasn't the one who created the map. Menno made it and all the credit goes to him What I did was only cropping it to the 28km size, so I didn't do anything more than you by cropping the NJ out And speaking about Menno's maps of NY, they are the best ones and that's why I use them too. I mean just check out the 60km one with staten island and a BIG NJ side, where you can make all the transportation thingis and the industrial part. Unfortunatelly my computer can't handle it neither. So once again, big up Menno! Date: 6/21/2005 3:46:13 PM Author: gpSIM My satellite map of New York, on the right side you see the rest of your map and you see it's really accurate! Great work! Well now the answers to you questions: - my config.bmp is a pure blue one wich creates 25 large cities, 256x256 tiles each. My Manhattan is not divided because I modified your map and cropped it to 1281x1281 pixel. I had to do so, because my Macintosh version only accept this size. So I cut of New Jersey and so my Manhattan not divided. - I tried to copy Honolulu, HI by playing it and I discovered a very more intense development, so I host over 1.2 mio. sims in a large city there, which is still not completly developed and I still have high requests for residential and commercial space - I don't reach this in my NYC - Well your financial district is also in excellent scale, but it's difficult to create the Manhattan Bridge, becaus it's diagonal and in my map it will cross over a city border. Actually in my city the financial district is not perfectly build and I have to recreate it. (end of quotation) I'm still not sure about financial district. Check out the city plan and note how many streets you have there. My financial is like 30-50 (have to count it at home) tiles. I don't know, I had some problems with it. And problems with bridges and tunnels are big, that's true... One thing I screwed up completely was dividing manhattan in such way that I can't place the WTC where is should be! BTW, You might want to check the chinatown lots from STEX Date: 6/21/2005 3:46:13 PM Author: gpSIM - Industrial zones are a problem for me too! I added some more industrial on the Upper East Side and along Hudson River. The problem is that Simcity will not interact between the cities effectly. So if you have large industrial parks in Queens (as in reality) they have no effect on the surrounding cities like Manhattan. However I just added some more zones and large industrial buildings with alot of jobs, like the New Inc. Aerospace Division. - Traffic is definetly a problem in SC4! I tried to solve it by adding street busstops and taxi stands all over the city. All avenues have busstops on each block and all the streets have taxistands on each block. That is also alot of traffic in the streets, but as in the real New York you have alot of yellow cabs in the streets. Allthough you do not have an CJ so far, maybe you could post some pics of your city right here. I'm very interested in your version of Brooklyn and Queens. Next screenshots will come soon... (end of quotation) Street busstops simply are allover the city in reality too I have some bus maps I was living in NY (Ridgewood, Queens) for 6 weeks As for my screenshots, I have like 100k of population there so it's really not worth it for now I think I'll make a CJ but after it will get some population. Generally speaking major problem for me are the demands, mostly because of lacks of industrial... And I'm not sure if I want to use those custom buildings you use... That's why I'm kinda stucked now... (and the WTC additionally to that! ). And generally, what intrests me most is the transit routes. I'd love to see brooklyn working as in reality, meaning moving hundrets of thousands of people to manhattan every morning. Post some more screenshots, traffic ones especially
