i don't think it's the computer graphics that cause the problem...perhaps it's because it has a major memory leak? - 1.7GB of ram for cartoonish graphics is quite bogus! and simcity 4 has better graphics b/c its designed in actual viz software that architects use. - i think what could be causing the graphical problems in scs is all the useless animation of green and blue boxes surrounding special buildings..... and simcity actually has more detail - look at the roads for example - tons more detail and options there! i like the colorful graphics in scs - but i guess if you're color blind it won't matter! - but then it sorta does fit the candycane theme they might want us going for? oh - and btw - they created this game now - it should work with the computers now..... esp. if most of people's computers that are having problems, surpass the requirements tremendously - yet still have problems...... LOOK AT THE NUMBERS, if so many are having the problem, it's a game issue..... i like building large cities, so this could be the issue. since one of u mentioned no crashing , but u only did small towns.....

Uhh.. might want to change the description of this board...

i don't think we actually got the simcity societies game...... we just had to pay to be beta testers for the early stages of a game that was...errr...crap. -
SimCity Society crashing (nVidia?)

so many coverups....so many lame excuses to blame it on everything but the game itself....right? -
SimCity Society crashing (nVidia?)
michaelsjewel replied to guitarkitty's topic in City-Building Games
anyone else find it odd the AUTOSAVE FEATURE is defaulted at 10 minutes......????????????? the developers knew there was a problem to begin with - otherwise this feature wouldn't be so frequently needed as they set it.... btw......it's all graphic cards, not just nvidia -
Official: Sim City 4 outsells Sim City Societies in November
michaelsjewel replied to KnowitallSim's topic in City-Building Games
well....20 dollars is still plenty....my guess people are buying simcity 4 b/c they've heard its a good game.... and if anyone hears about scs...well...they probably won't hear much of good things about it... one thing i do request though..... is that maxis make simcity 5...not tilted mill.... for how messed up the game is on crashes and what not...we don't need a screwed up version of a sequel..... it's time someone gets it right! -

perhaps it's b/c scs has a major memory leak? and well....we all know it needs a new patch big time! -
Sim City Societies or Cities Unlimited
michaelsjewel replied to SmartRoss1's topic in City-Building Games
i really don't know if cities unlimited will be what people are hoping it too be......i mean the whole curved road ideas and better management of the game is nice...but knowing how lame the original city life was....not so sure i can count on a total revelation. however...if cities unlimited adds interstate and other mass transportation....and not forgetting the fact that buildings shouldn't be repatative...and basically steer clear of scs route...they'll do amazing.... scs isn't so bad....but it's pretty much static...nothing really happens after placing buildings they stay the same forever. i wish cities unlmited were available now...but i think that might not even be available by xmas 2008! -
hi disaster999..... you're not alone....basically...turn most of not all your graphic settings to low...and it'll slow down the crash process....u aren't missing much by turning it to low...in fact i barely notice any diff. i have an extremely good pc...and it still crashes on me.... EA/tilted mill just need an update is all. this is being discussed so much at the official forum that we all know it's something to do with the game itself.... i guess we'll just have to wait.

Man Opens Fire at Omaha Mall, Killing 8

well...for you who thought it was the lack of healthcare.... he was treated back in 2002...for being homocidal on his mother.... but the insurance company paying for his stay in the mental place decided to stop paying for it.... you can blame everything u want for this....but the truth is there really is no one answer...the guy was troubled....and didn't think clearly how others would think.... he clearly felt lonely...even if loved by his family that took him in off the streets..... some people just cannot be saved...or rather...don't wanna be saved.... i live in omaha nebraska...right across from this mall. it's sad that this has happened at home....but if you take away the guns...they will find other means...like bombs...which btw happens all the time overseas.... for example.....emilie on a jewel forum lives in france...and told me of a lady who was killed by a parcel bomb.... this ***** happens anywhere...guns or no guns.... the world is sick people..... there will always be violence.... it may not happen in your neighborhood.....heck we didn't think it'd happen in ours...yet it did.... we really are living in a fragile world.... this could happen anywhere.... someone was pathetic to say to me...."see what happens when bush comes into town" since bush was visiting omaha and left just 40 mins. before..... as much as i dislike the man....it was a very arrogant comment made by that person to put blame on anyone else..... this kid was taken in with love....things happened on himself and he took it out as though the world was against him...... he was homocidal on his mother...he dropped out of school....he got fired....he lost his girlfriend...this could happen to anyone....but not everyone acts the way he did.... he was sick, but blaming society on this...is purely stupid as well....he brought on most of his own problems.... it's just sad that he had to take this out on innocent individuals..... -

Man Opens Fire at Omaha Mall, Killing 8

i do live in omaha, nebraska and actuall...right across interstate 680 from this mall... he lost his job at mcdonalds....and his girlfirend.....had a troubled past... was set for arretst earlier for minor in possession.... regardless if he felt depressed..... people suffer the same.... he didn't need to go and ruin everyone elses' lives b/c of his own... some are saying maybe he was made fun of..... it's like...i don't see how blaming everyone else for his own demented problems is the real answer when u look at all has happened to him on his own terms.... he dropped out of HS - again his decision.... it's really sad...... and btw.... if we are so armed with guns in this country..... then how come no one else at the mall had a gun on them to stop them ..... thanks people for judging us without getting the facts! i feel as though the 2nd ammendment needs to be abolished.... there's no rreal reason to have a gun anymore. i will not let this deter me from shopping at this mall. it is....my fav. mall.... however , i'm deeply saddened that this is the end for 8 individuals who did nothing at all...but work and shop for their families and loved ones for the holidays.... and one thing i'd like to say to everyone to take to heart....."just because we're always so used to seeing the news about something bad happening elsewhere.... doesn't mean it couldn't happen where we live or even you. It could happen anywhere" we used to say "not here"...... but now know more that we are more vulnerable as human beings in this fragile world than we thought.... -
What is your favorite theme in Societies?

if you explain what orwellian and contemplative themes mean - i might answer! the rest of them i recognize...however - what in the game could possibly lend itself to disneyland? -
Why EA is every serious gamer's nightmare
michaelsjewel replied to sir.rakey's topic in City-Building Games
simcity 4 was harder at initial release - until you got the update with rush hour - then they increased the money flow.... i found the trick to not cheating was to build tons of residential to start and it brought in moneyflow..... and so forth however when i play simcity 4 now i cheat b/c i love my freeway systesm and i'm a transit goru...... i recently tried using one way roads as ramps for interchanges and the possibilities are endless and more life-like..... (check out city journal 'OMAHA 2100' for examples)......... i'm expecting a major expansion mainly targeted at transportation in simcity socieites.... but first - i want a fix for the RUNTIME C++ error in the program itself that causes crashes and hangs...... esp. since i aleady have the first patch! -
i'm on vista premium.... the error i got for awhile....would says something like..... "RUNTIME ERROR...c++ - the program you are running has decided to terminate in an unusual way and must be closed.... " or something like that.... i finally got that error to stop but dunno how..... now it just hangs like ..... 30mins. to an hour....sometimes when autosaving..... or rotating the screen - or just sitting there really - .... i've noticed that it's a memory hog. - it got up to 1700mbs ram at one point! that's 1.7GB ram..... i put in a flash drive as a ready boost and it still did the same thing - i could close out of the game that way - and my computer itself was only using 300 of it..... all my drivers are updated... everything that shouldn't be open is closed..... internet unplugged....everything! i'm almost wondering if it installed wrong or something or what? - i defragmented and checked for disk errors before installing - so the system was prepped.... it's just amusing since i have no crashes on other games - even when some are graphically intense....and memory hogs. the RUNTIME c++ error represents an error in the programing of the game itself..... the game really isn't that bad - it's just annoying playing a big city (only around 30,000 people so far) and having it crash more often as the city enlarges.... oh - and i have a brand new graphics card 512mb for that - plus.....my computer adds another 700 some to it! so essentially 1200mb video! rollercoaster tycoon 3 works on this computer - and it's very intense graphics with tons of movement just like this.... i turned down most of the graphics options in SCS to test if it would improve performance ......... doesn't help!
-
i installed the patch and i've noticed that today it crashed 3 times in a very short period...no wonder they have it saved as default....EVERY 10 minutes..... i have 2GB ram..... and it uses all of it!

This is my first city journal, but I thought it'd be interesting to show how I use simcity to build my cities/concepts. I live in Omaha, NE. I'm fascinated by city planning and the whole transportation infrastructure. Needless to say, I love putting freeways, tons of them - in my cities/regions. However, I'm trying to stay realistic to this one, as it is somewhat modeled to the real Omaha, with some added freeways and exisiting ones - it's not 100% accurate as even the map of the region isn't - but the river is..... the freeway that is there already is somewhat accurate. however, with limitations in the game to make freeway interchanges..... i've decided to experiment with one ways....to make custom interchanges and i'm happy with the outcome. detailed photos to come later. for now, here's what i've got so far..... as of 7/31/2007 - i have the downtown area of omaha, ne. and the surrounding worked on. for a total of just over 1.8 million. This isn't realistic as current standards as omaha's metro now is just over 850k..... this is my future omaha. so - with the past of the real omaha, and the future in my eyes..... here it is..... OMAHA, NE..... the future Image 1..... Here is the large regional view of the Omaha metro, in its beginning stages. Downtown is near the river on the west side of the river. Interstate 480 wraps around it ..... and many added for future traffic demands. more detailed images and descriptions of travel ...later pop: 1.8+ million ________________________________________________________________________ Image 2... more up close of downtown omaha region.... not much more to say here. _____________________________________________________ Image 3.... Here is the current transportation map of the omaha metro. Red indicates freeway....white, avenue. as you can see - there's lots of gray in the downtown area...indicating one ways. Gray also highlights the major intersections.... of the freeway...esp. that of 480/480/75 interchange in the heart of downtwon...(surrounded by lucious green space) my cities, i do have a tendency to put green and trees around the interstate's to make them more appealing. takes a lot of open grass area plopping. That's it for now, hope you enjoyed my short, intro city journal...... more shall be coming all in time.... thanks.

it's been awhile since my last update since i didn't play it awhile and well - had some troubles with people being stupid drivers.... the expressway lanes weren't being used - people would rather take the stop light road and go on a slower road than the expressway coming out of the next neighborhood - so - i removed the entrance/exit on that side....and viola.... since the last update - westroads/dodge area has expanded big time - to show you this - here's 9 new images to show you the interchanges and them being used! IMAGE 1: west dodge/680 exit in use! IMAGE 2: nighttime view of west dodge..... with added exit ramps near westroads mall. IMAGE 3: here's where the express lanes above normal dodge - where the ramps interchanged between the two - but now removed to force people to actually use the road - apparently simcity drivers are stupid and would rather take a slow route than the fast one? lol... IMAGE 4: nighttime view of pacific st. area which is just south of west dodge. IMAGE 5: nighttime view of 680/dodge interchange detail - traffic is quite busy on some of these lanes... IMAGE 6: traffic view on west dodge near westroads IMAGE 7: nighttime view zoomed out on dodge/680 exit. IMAGE 8: 580/680 interchange now in use - later after this image update i added a few skyscrapers to the right for easy access to the freeway for commuters to get to jobs. IMAGE 9: 680/dodge interchange - daytime view....

SimCity 3000 is definitely the best game in the series IMO. (Particulary the Unlimited edition) Regardless, this pack in still doesn't make the game worth it. I still have my copy of SimCity 300 Unlimited. Just another way to desperately try and sell more copies of a crappy game, by including a 7 year old game packaged in. (Albeit an amazing game, but I think it would have made more sense for them to package in SimCity 4 or something)quote> package simcity 4 into the game instead of 3000? well - considering 4 still goes for 30 these days - they can still sell simcity 4...... simcity societies seems like a whole new game - if u package simcity 4 with it - then simcity societies will officially be the simcity 5! i had gotten simcity 3000 unlmited for xmas once - the first i got in the series.... it was ok.... but simcity 4 has me .... who knows - maybe simcity societies will too after some major transportation expansion packs.... -
in a way i don't mind the plopping of buildings just b/c i do so in my downloaded buildings downtown areas...... but after awhile it is nice to just zone sometimes.... who knows - i like the zoning and such - u can overdo the zoning in simcity 4 b/c sometimes development haults..... so yah.... i'm hoping the store at least has the game on the shelf when i buy it on release day - otherwise i guess i'll wait b/c no rush to miss class to get the game - i'm sure it won't go over crazy like halo would

Two New Videos at Simcity.com
michaelsjewel replied to panthersimcity4's topic in City-Building Games
thanks for sharing - they are using new music in the last two videos on the page before the producer walkthrough... the asian community is kinda neat - i'm curious to find out what music they will be using in the game since simcity 4 rush hour had such nice orchestrated music -
How do you feel about the SCS announcement?

Originally posted by: ch_lemr73 For sure SCS concept is like a "think different" from other SimCity games. Hoping the game to be a failure ? What is the point, since a commercial failure of a game can compromise or at least delay the coming of others from the same software developer/editor ... I think trying to do something different is necessary in order to make games evolve. What about always making all the games the same, thinking something like "oh, anoher racing game ? " , or "another spy, FPS, flight simulation game ? " ? Sometimes, editors dare doing someting different, risking a flop, or a colossal hit. Games like Civilization, the Sims, and of course the first Sim City succeeded, daring to release games based on a concept that was never (not exactly for the sims, though), made before. Just think that i've read somewhere that the game "the sims" was close to be cancelled seven times before it was released ... and then became the incredible success we know. So i think we shouldn't blame those who try to innovate on game, what would be the present if a horde of people rushed on maxis guys, throwing then stones and yelling then they're morons making the first SimCity, finally making them giving up the project, humm ? quote> see - i get what you say about innovating the game to make it more appealing as a new release...but to throw everything out the window and slap the franchise name on it? kinda harsh to me.... if games that steadily progress don't sell well...then why are there so many madden games for the game consoles? apparently they do sell! -
i'm hoping that they'll release an expansion pack for added transportation options.... at least then i'd really be into the game however - i'm still buying it to see if i can handle the change - it looks a lot like city life - but not exactly....

it's 50 dollars..... aka ....49.99 in US MONEY - at stores like WAL-MART and BEST BUY.... if it's 100 dollars - forget ever buying that crap.... i think 49 is bad enough considering i probably won't even like this game... however - i still will buy it b/c i'm tired of waiting already...it'll be fun for a couple days and forget about it until i get so bored that pick it up 2 years later like i did with city life - play it for a day - then never think about playing it again b/c it reminded me why i hated playing it to begin with.... however - CITIES UNLIMITED seems to be interesting ...i'd rather play that...
