What was the first CD (or record) you ever owned?
wolverine replied to Duke87's topic in General Off-Topic
I think it was Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise." -
Asside from them being incredibly racist, I think these people have psychological issues as well, especially the father. Agreed, extremely scary looking and messed up in the head.

Personally, I'd like to see someone do a decent urban type of mall. Something more vertical, and of course, not surrounded by parking.
-
Yeah, actually it would just drain straight down to a gutter in the alley, not to a doorway lol.

Chicago CTA Stations & Other Gilded Age Grandiosities
wolverine replied to ardecila's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I think it looks pretty good size-wise. -
Correct In some buildings, roofs are designed slope-to-center. This allows for a reduced risk of water damage along the parapet wall, and possible infiltration into the masonry cavity. On many older buildings, the roofs slope to the very back wall, and then there is built up insulation towards the edges, causing the water to drain to the center. So it's current position is correct. Although it can be the other way too. Really, it doesn't matter. LOL, this is what happens when you draw building sections and construction details at work all day.

Happy's is like the grandaddy of ghetto pizza chains. Good food, but hood as hell. Their signage is a different story though. It's bright enough to blind you and cause a car accident. It's almost like it's screaming at you. At least their wings are good Josefmayor I'm starting graduate school for urban planning in about two weeks, and even I don't have a clue what they do lol.

I work for an architecture firm. I really hate that you all enjoy BATing models here at ST. That's all I do everyday sometimes. Granted I get paid for it, but it gets old after awhile. Switching to a new career field currently, despite that fact that I'm comfortable and somewhat satisfied with my job.

^ That used to happen at my college at one particular time. There was this event called the naked mile, where a group would run through campus naked. Eventually the university and the city got fed up with it, so anybody caught participating was thrown on the state's sex offender list and had to pay huge fines. Considering these were recent graduates, how do you think their future employer would feel about them being on this list for some stupid stunt. That's really really serious!

If you already didn't have enough buildings on your plate, Here's the images for Chauncey-Evins in Saginaw you requested. Be careful with the floorplans I gave you. I hope I didn't give you the basement plan because the basement goes out 10 ft beyond the footprint you see of the building in the photos, under the sidewalk roads and parking. You can see where the freight elevator comes up out of the ground. I'll try and get roof photos to you soon. kingston-type 4 x 8" bricks I have more, but I don't want to overload this thread with images

3ds Max - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
wolverine replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Hey what's good all. This is somewhat related to the BAT, but I felt it was appropriate to ask in this thread since it deals with 3ds. I'm working on a project for my portfolio. I'm really not sure if I'll use this building in SimCity or not, but anyway. I'm having trouble with making realistic daylighting. As you can see, I just used a bland and boring skylight to give a diffuse appearance. I like the light shadows under everything, but I need to give this thing some sun. I've tried playing around with the daylight system but everything always comes out looking WAY to bright. I then tried just sunlight, but the shadows are a bit too harsh, and one side is way too dark. In real life, we know that all sides are illuminated by skylight, just some more brightly where the sun is shining. Additionally, I don't have time to sit around and wait long hours for something to render. A few hours is okay, I did this one at at 1200 x 800 using crappy scan line (took about 45 mins), although I'd like to use a different renderer. Anyone here know how to do an evening sky with rich sunlight at a low angle. I still want the lightly shaded shadows like I get with the skylight. If anyone knows, you don't have to clog up this thread, just send me a pm or we can discuss it over email. I'd like to know what setting to use with the lighting, and then what settings for rendering. I'm really not all that knowledgeable about 3ds, and it's going to come to the point where the architecture firm I work for is going to ask me to do some renders with pretty sunsets and I don't want to be taken by surprise. What's wrong with the water tower, I'm sure he's not done with it yet. The support structure looks like that in real life.
-
Are you going to model that railroad thing in the back? I remember walking on that to get some photos when the structure you are modeling caught fire (now the Henry Ford Hospital Records Building) I might have some photos of the back of this. (fire damaged unfortunately)

It's easy to export to BAT if you have the professional version of sketchup. Follow these steps: - First turn your faces onto monochrome. Make sure NO OUTWARD FACES ARE BLUE. If many are, select a face and use "orient all." Or reverse the faces individually if there aren't that many - Go To export 3d - Select .3ds filetype - click options - Export stand alone edges should be UNCHECKED, or else the lines you see at edges will carry into 3ds/Gmax. - Check export texture maps (unless you plan on retexturing in gmax - Make sure preserve texture coordinates is checked so everything is lined up and in place - Leave everything else unchecked Click export Import .3ds in Gmax

Why not add an automated parking garage to the side. I know that's not there in real life, but for SimCity purposes it would work.

Looking good Jason! As for Windsor. Wasn't Casino Windsor on our original list? I guess it would be difficult to BAT now since it's receiving a major addition. If anyone is to BAT something from there, I was once thinking about modeling the Portofino Tower. I have no images of it, but it's that brand new round one on the lower end of the skyline.

Okay I have looked closely at Western Auto and I think I have enough info to BAT it

I'm looking at the possibility of doing Western Auto. It's got that difficult curve though. But I was able to find some images that shows heights and dimensions.

I remember Allan was doing the Statler but that all kind of fell apart. Actually, I have quite a few good reference photos. It is a building that needs to be done though.. definitely. Seahawk fan, do you mind pm-ing me some more links to closeup images of that building you posted?

Yeah FF was kind of far along. I've considered restarting. Here's a few images of it. Died, Revived, hopefully will survive. As you can see, they never really got that far, although some further than others

My Years On Simtropolis: The Campfire Talk
wolverine replied to manman99's topic in General Off-Topic
I just wanted to say that I've almost been here 4 years now, and I'm still happy to be a part of the ST community! -
Try adding an air vent on the wall at the very top (A square one with a circular fan) that I've seen so common in these types of buildings. Looks great though!
