I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I'll ask anyway ) Has anyone tried to create a map of Iceland? I know there's an attempt at a Reykjavik map on the stex, but I actually had in mind the whole island... It would most certainly be a very beautiful and challenging map (I'm not Icelandic but I happen to love that country) Of course it wouldn't need to be to scale ) -
It may not be the best idea ever ?Enor do I pretend that no-one thought about it before me ?Ebut for my first CJ, I wanted to do something original that could be of interest for me and for you all?EThe basic concept is very simple: I

Date: 4/18/2005 12:17:34 PM Author: Kaze Progressa *blushes madly at compliments directed at map* Well, for what it's worth... I can't do the in-game terraforming perfected by jeronij and Darmok. At all. I tried to create a variety of cities... so the top left corner, for instance, has a nice long coastline but less buildable land and hence will be chosen by someone who prefers pretty tourist hotspots to towering CBDs (that would be me then ) while the central area, with a small mesa near water, will definitely produce the big C$$$ buildings... and then there's the rocky headland of the bottom right corner... there's plenty there. This will ensure a very diverse region, I hope I propose creating an interactive CJ based on this map. This could take a variety of forms, and I may consult x2230062 and PhatHead (and others) on the best way to do it. Kudos to the former for creating the concept of an interactive CJ. quote> Thanks for the acknowledgement but i'm not dead yet -

OK Clearly I'm going from trouble to trouble with SC4. My - old - PC can't handle Ashby Quays anymore. The lag has just made it totally impossible for me to keep playing. So here's my suggestion: I really enjoy this CJ, apparently some of you do too, so why not start a new interactive CJ, better, faster, and more beautiful with smaller cities (mostly small/medium) ??? I'd really love for you to keep participating, so let me know what you think, and if enough people are willing to stick to this project, we'll start a new adventure from scratch with new ideas and more interactivity!! -

HELP!!!! Hi all, sorry for the long interruption: my hard disk has totally crashed and apparently the only way I can fix the problem is by formatting it... Do you know a good way to save my cities ? I was thinking, is it possible if I save my current SC4 folder onto a CD or something, format the disk, reinstall the game and replace the new SC4 folder by the old copy?? If anyone has experienced the same problem let me know please!! I'd really feel sorry if Ashby Quays was lost... Pretty please... -

15 votes ?? I think I'm gonna cry... Ashby Quays is going through an unprecedented phase of development - so there is the BIGGEST update so far planned for release tomorrow (20+ pics) as the construction of the el-train network had some pretty amazing (and unexpected) effects... -

STIMULATING GROWTH The building of a new high-capacity bridge over the river was the primary target of the fourth Local Urbanization Plan. The construction was no major problem and was achieved without much delay. The immediate effect of its completion was of course a commercial boom around what had become the main axis of communication across the city. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//AQ101BR.JPG align=baseline> As expected though, the rapid expansion of Ashby Quays led the local government to think that it would take more than a bridge to solve the transit issues getting worse and worse across the city. It was then decided that a mass transit system was absolutely necessary to maintain growth in the area. After consulting the local population, the council decided to start building an elevated railway connecting the central area along the canal to the port (westwards) and to the main commercial district (southwards). The first station was quickly built and the first line opened to the public shortly before the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Ashby Quays. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//AQ10EL.JPG align=baseline> On the course of regular development, the news that the railway line would come close provoked a sudden upsurge in land prices on the area facing the university south of the canal. It has now become THE most expensive area in Ashby Quays, and the new trend for corporate offices to establish their luxurious headquarters in the area is not likely to slow down this tremendous success. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//AQ102.JPG align=baseline> As much as this is good news for the local economy, the council started to worry that smaller businesses would not be able to compete with multinationals and that they might not bear the pressure of extremely high prices. As a counter measure, the council started developing specifically designated areas where the existing historical buildings could not be destroyed without special authorization, and where all transactions regarding lan ownership would have to be approved by an appointed commission. The purpose was to protect old areas of the city retaining a peaceful atmosphere such as this one: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//AQ103CV.JPG align=baseline> (NOTE: these aren't plopped, at some point - a while ago - they just grew there all at the same time... and I made them historical) However not everything is perfect yet in AQ, especially regarding the density of some areas where appropriate measures absolutely must be enforced. For example: This area will be the prime target for the next plan, as well as the extension of the railway lines to link more areas into one consistent and effective network. -

Date: 3/21/2005 10:50:29 AM Author: superchad WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i whanted subway to win, imagine this, we get offered a major league stadium, and then UH OH, we don't have anywhere to place it. lol Don't feel too bad...! As I already said, this won't be the ONLY possible means of transportation in the whole city. When needed we can still use subway stations - especially since they are so easy to combine with an EL-train network... EDIT: WELCOME TO PAGE... 11! -

NEW POLL OPEN With a population close to 100,000 inh. Ashby Quays is facing many issues regarding traffic congestion, and even though a bigger bridge over the river is being built it is not expected to solve everything by itself. The council is considering the addition of an efficient mass transit sytem to answer those issues. So far no consensus has been reached on what system should be adopted which is a general vote will be organized. The decision will be made according on what the future users wish for. The four options are: 1. Subway 2. Monorail 3. Elevated rail 4. Ground rail You can vote here : http://www.langlaufen.nl/poll1.htm Bear in mind that this is the PRIMARY (MAIN) system only, it will obviously not be the only one. And I ruled out the highway because it is not likely that a highway would be running in the middle of the downtown (I am thinking of using it for a ring road linking Ashby Quays to the rest of the region) Since there is already another poll hot in the oven you will only have 24 hrs. for this one. Deadline is 22.30 PM on sunday night (EST) or 4.30 AM monday morning (GMT) GO VOTE! Thanks. -

Date: 3/19/2005 1:59:54 PM Author: dhoppeii I too, really like the look and layout of the 'Hive' Couple of questions regarding it: Did you plop all the apartment buildings? (I assume you did, but you never know). If you didn't, did you mark them historical to retain them? Great Update No I usually don't plop anything (except what can't be grown of course!) The apartment buildings all grew there and the fact that they're growable explain why there are still empty areas... I'm waiting for some more to pop up! Each unit is actually a 5x2 lot and there aren't many buildings growing on them so it's not so difficult to get But I do make them historical once they're there indeed, just in case... -

Date: 3/19/2005 11:15:11 AM Author: Leech10 The hive looks good, very interesting layout for the streets. For the under the canal tunnel, press shift and a number to make the area smaller (1 will be the smallest, 9 is about the same as the normal size), or use the hole digging lots on the STEX.quote> Really?? That's good news, thanks a lot! I wish I had know about this trick before, it wouldn't have taken so much time ... I'll put it to good use next time!
