Version 2.3
5,727 Downloads
@rsc204 and @11241036 have been fixing little glitches in this collection. The version under the download button is now v2.3. If you previously downloaded v2.1 then you do not need to re-download the whole thing. Here's the direct instructions for what what was changed and how to update your v2.1 copy of it: Original description: Hi, here I post the link to my Italian BATs: a large collection of models and lots made by myself. They include W2Ws, condos, row houses, churches, palaces, factories, farms, canals, and other props, many of which you can see at work in my "Augusta, large Italian city" journal here. The total size of the zip is 230 MB total. Once unzipped, the download weighs 263 MB overall, and includes: The actual game files. The "BAT clips" folder, containing screenshots of most gmax scenes, so that you know which is which. The Readme, with more detailed information. Whatever files you choose to use, DO NOT DELETE the ones named "blank.." located in the "Lot props" folder, as they are needed for most lots to work. Unless, of course, you know for certain they are not needed for the specific lots you will be using. I'm sorry for not having time to properly upload my works one by one with documentation, dependencies lists etc. I hope they can still be useful to players who need Italian-themed content, as the latter is quite rare. Some lots, especially small ones, do not require any dependencies. If brown boxes do appear, the missing dependencies can be detected by using SC4Tool. Should anybody, after scanning some lot, wish to upload it directly to the STEX, he is welcome to do so, as long as I am mentioned as the author. Thank you and enjoy! DEPENDENCIES Given the extent of this collection, there are 58 dependencies in total. As follows: BSC Common Dependency Package: BSC Textures Vol 01 BSC Textures Vol 02 BSC Textures Vol 03 BSC Mega Props - RT Vol 1 BSC MEGA Props - RT Vol03 BSC MEGA Props RT Vol04 BSC Mega Props – SG Vol 01 BSC Mega Props - Jestarr Vol 1 BSC Mega Props - Jestarr Vol 2 BSC Mega Props - Jestarr Vol 8 BSC Mega Props - swi21 Vol01 BSC Mega Props swi21 Vol 2 BSC MEGA Props CP Vol 01 BSC MEGA Props CP Vol 02 BSC Mega Props - DAE Vol 1 BSC Mega Props - D66 Vol 1 BSC Mega Props Gascooker Vol01 BSC Mega Props - MJB Vol 1 BSC Mega Props - Misc Vol 1 BSC MEGA Props Misc Vol02 BAT Props Mattb325 Vol01 BAT Props Mattb325 Vol02 CSX Mega Props - Vol 01 CSX Mega Props - Vol 03 CSX Mega Props - Vol 04 CSX Mega Props - Vol 06 BSC Mega Props - MBEAR Vol 3 BSC MEGA Props Jen_P Vol01 BSC MEGA Props - DBSSYMN Vol01 BSC MEGA Props - DBSSYMN Vol02 BSC MEGA Props kevdan25 Vol01 SFBT Essentials SPAM Super Resource Pack Neko Props Vol 2 and 3 Network Addon Mod MGB Texture Pack Fixed Sc4jeeks Parking Textures Nams Props Pack Vol 2 Orange MegaProp V01 LNX JBM Mega Prop pack Polish Mega Props - MISC vol01 v2 BSC Irrigation Ditch Set 2009 SimFox TreePack #2 Diagonal Intersection RoadTop SubwayBus Station (only the file MTRT-Tex.dat) Rail_Catenary_Mod_V3 HD version (only the file Catenary_prop_exemplar_for_rail.dat) MRQS - Drottningholm Palace Longfellow Castle (direct download link) PEG RTK3 Recreational Style BSC TSC girafe French Road Signs European Truck Prop Pack vol. 1 Modernes Klär- und Wasserwerk (Modern sewage treatment and waterworks) Swiss Financial Center (Currently available on SimCity Square) The read me lists dependencies for it as; BSC MEGA Props - swi21 Vol02 BSC BAT Props D66 Vol07 BSC Textures - MEGA Pack Vol 01 These are all now included in the BSC Common Dependencies Pack BSC Farm Fields - SG Revised (Currently available on SimCity Square) The read me lists dependencies for it as; BSC Textures Vol 01 - this is included in SC4D LEX Legacy - BSC Common Dependencies Pack *SOMY Apartment Blocks (direct download links: zip & z01 files - extract together) *SOMY Homepage [apts (6x6) near the bottom (zip & z01 files))] It appears that, due to possible security resstrictions, SOMY's site may not be accessible. Staff Edit - December 2021: As per their comment here, thanks to @11241036 for compiling the above dependencies list. EXTRAS In case some batter wishes to play around with my models, I will provide the link for the BAT scenes too -- at least the ones that survived my pc crush/change. Just let me know. The same for the automata I modded, which you can spot in my journal as well. They include buses, long trailer trucks, scooters, superbikes, etc, and are not included in my Italian BATs collection because some of them are modifications of custom content by other authors, so I can't claim full credit + their instances may conflict. If I get requests regardless of these issues, I will share them too. Simcity4ever88 -
Introductory note: many of the BATs featured in the following pics were made by myself. While I will never have the time to upload them one by one to any exchange site, you can download the whole package here: http://www.divshare.com/download/23679707-33a ------ Augusta is a big, fictional Italian city that covers about 9 large tiles. The population is about 2.3 million, achieved with realistic stats -for example, a family home houses maximum 4 people. At the core of the city is the Roman and medieval town (sorry I can't show you a larger view, my pc can't handle zoom 1 and 2). The Colosseum is at the heart of the main square, surrounded by other important Roman buildings. The pedestrian walk takes us to the other major square, where the Duomo, the townhall, and the historical market are located. The Duomo is only one of the many ancient city churches: Other interesting sights include more Roman arches, towers, river walks, medieval bridges, and old markets. Porticos are extremely popular (they are overhanging props so you can see sims actually walking under them). Needless to say, we can count several important palaces, ranging all the way from Roman times to the 19th century. The oldest part of the city is surrounded by medieval walls, which are very well preserved. Several gates connect this old centre with the rest of the city. Some give access to avenues, some to roads, some are only for pedestrians. Central avenues are lined with elegant buildings from the 19th or early 20th century. Not far from the old centre, yet with a totally different flavour, is the business district, with modern towers and a lot of glass. Outside the medieval walls, the inner city starts. It is mostly made of buildings from the 1920s to the 1970s, mainly W2W, often chaotic and not very nice-looking. https://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o710/simcity4ever/08%20Inner%20city/Inner9_zps867b789c.jpg Beyond the inner city, lie the vast outskirts. They provide a wide range of environments depending on their wealth, location, period of construction etc. However, condos rule pretty much everywhere.

Done! You can now download my BAT scenes at: http://www.divshare.com/download/23690209-8cb You will notice some missing textures and details, when compared to the models featured in the collection. That's because of the afore-mentioned pc crush, that caused me to lose the big review job I was undertaking. Well, no big issue for good batters, I bet. @Gn_leugim That's very nice of you, thank you. I would love your advice. For the moment, though, there's little chance I can make anything. Perhaps later on, and in that case I'll definitely let you know! :)
-
Ok guys, that's great, I will soon provide you with the link to download my BAT scenes, so you can edit them to your liking. For more details on the scenes, you will also find a Readme. The textures issue is true for some of them, not all, and especially roof textures. Great if you have time to make them more realistic, and glad my work is useful! :)
-
@jgiovanni Before installing the set, I suggest you have a look at the BAT clips, choose the ones you like, and then run the relative lot through the SC4Tool to check for dependencies. I am sorry for the inconvenience, have really no time to do that myself. Alternatively, you may use my props to make your own lots.

Is anyone going to still play 4 when the new one comes out?
simcity4ever88 replied to natethegreatforlife's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Absolutely yes, in fact I'm not even going to buy SC5. I will go for a new game only if it will allow to keep using all the custom content that has been made for SC4 -that is never, I bet. -
Thank you guys, glad my work is paying off. @ thehandyman Which textures are you referring to, exactly? For my models, one of my favourite sites is www.cgtextures.com For the terrain, I use the Italian terrain mod -though others would work just as well, I guess. When it comes to props, aside from my own, I downloaded all sorts of prop packs by different authors, for example Debussyman, MBear, Mattb325, Glenni, Somy, just to name a few. My plugin folder weighs just under 2GB, of which only 200MB are my own creations.

@ Hazani Pratama Thank you, I tried to recreate the countryside of the flat areas of Italy. @ the handyman Well, you would still have credit for taking the trouble to upload, which would be totally admirable.. but obviously you don't have to! It's not that I'm too lazy to do it myself, I really have no time. Perhaps it's a job that would be best done by more than one person. @ Benedict You are right, at the center is the historic, classic town, surrounded by the medieval walls and therefore clearly distinguished from the rest of the city. It's a feature of many Italian towns. The difficulty lies in finding suitable historic buildings, which for a large part I had to BAT myself. As for road style, the SAM cobble stone streets fit just perfectly.
-
UPDATE 4 Far out in the countryside, not included in the regional shot, several villages, often quite picturesque. And of course the countryside, with farms, canals, and rolling fields.
-
Again thank you all, it's great to read your comments! @ thehandyman I definitely love to share my work, however I really have no time to properly upload hundreds of files to the STEX, as that would mean to scan lots for dependencies, to compress, to include shots, documentation, etc. However, again anybody can download most of my BATs here: http://www.divshare.com/download/23679707-33a If anybody wishes to upload my work to the STEX, is welcome to do so. You won't find my custom automata at the link above, only because when I modded them I didn't bother to use new instances, so they may conflict with some other custom plugins. Should anybody be interested, my personal automata include the orange bus and tram, the trolley bus, the blue regional buses, tourists coaches, scooters that replace the in-game commuter cars, 3 long trailer trucks, some new trailers, 2 superbikes, the ACI tow truck, the mail truck, 2 motorhomes, a tractor, and more. If I get requests, I'll also make my gmax files available for download (at least the ones that survived my pc crush/change, as several are unfortunately lost, or only the "primitive" stage survives) so batters will be able to play around with them and perhaps change some textures to their liking.

UPDATE 3 Though very dense, the city still has some green areas. From the parks in the centre... ...to the ones in the inner city... ...and the outskirts. While growing larger and larger, the city has incorporated several small towns, which have retained some of their original structure, though very much altered their character and become all and one with the city. On the edges of the city, suburbs provide a less dense, greener environment, where recent developments and rowhouses abound. A 3-lanes ringroad connects the outer reaches of the city... ...and provides access to the freeways.
-
UPDATE 2 Large areas are also occupied by factories, concentrated above all in the south-eastern industrial district. Power and water utilities... Also in the south-eastern district is the freight terminal, with lots of containers, trucks and trains.

@thehandyman I batted the medieval bridge (the one with red bricks) myself; it's an overhanging prop that covers the ingame road bridge, so it only fits that specific width of the river. As for the canals, I batted 2 sets of grass and red-bricks canal, somewhat compatible with SimGoober's. Anyway, most of the canals you see in the pics are actually the narrow canal set by SG, and for the river I've used the embankment set by Marrast. The realistic water is available on the stex, now I don't remember exactly what mod that is. @cromabianca 1) You are right about the different shades of green. It is due to the slightly different level of the terrain. Part of the difference is also between the established tiles, where the Italian terrain mod is active, and the still "virgin" tiles, that show the in-game terrain colour. (Btw, the terraforming is far from finished, for example it's supposed to be all hilly just North of the city). The difference will certainly vary when using different terrain mods, or reverting to the in-game one; that should somewhat fix or alleviate the problem. Oh, and then again, the city is not finished; for example, the gaps between developed areas are supposed to be filled with crops, vegetation, etc that would therefore cover the terrain and solve the problem. 2)To choose the buildings, selecting the style and the tile prints was not enough. The only way to give your city the appearance you want, is to use the buildingplop extra cheat extensively -yep, for almost all the buildings! In that way, you directly plop your commercial and industrial buildings, and plop your residentials over pre-developed areas. It's a process that requires time and (a lot of) patience, but vital to avoid a complete chaos; when your plugin folder counts hundreds of buildings, it can only rarely happen that the one you want grows exactly where you want it. By using the buildingplop cheat, you can have beautiful and functional cities at the same time. 3) I didn't block Maxis buildings (though mods to do so are available on the stex), I simply built them over with the aforementioned extra cheat. Thank you for your compliments, I hope my work will be useful for all who love the Italian style. If you have more questions, just ask!

@Benedict Spot on, they are the standard Italian colours for transit. Urban transport is orange, whereas blue buses are for longer, regional lines. In some pictures you also see tourist coaches, obviously multicoloured.
-
UPDATE 1 Mass transport is provided by trains, buses, trams, and also a trolley bus that runs all around the city on a 28km-long ring, in the inner city and the outskirts. Here are some pictures taken along its circular route. (Here is the trolley bus) Its route comes by a coach station.. ...the main bus depot... ...and the trolley bus depot, of course! The city has two main train stations, one close to the northern gates.. ..the other one close to the south-eastern gate. Then there are several smaller stations to serve other areas of the city... (still the trolley bus nearby) ...train depots... ...and of course lines that runs across the neighbourhoods, crossed by flyovers and underpasses. The city also has an airport, close to which are commercial areas and big hotels. The wholesale markets are busy every day, trading the food such a big city requires.

@Flav73 Thank you, I am flattered! Yes, my aim was to recreate a typical Italian city with its different areas: the ancient center, the post-war inner city, the more recent outskirts, industrial areas, incorporated towns, suburbs, etc, trying to replicate the real-world dynamic of city expansion. As for your request, it is possible. All in all, my plugins folder it a little less than 2 GB. Aside from extensively using buildings and mods available on the exchanges, I also did a lot of re-lotting and re-modding, to make downloads more compatible with an Italian setting, so that may be of interest too. Just PM me and we'll see in detail.

About sharing my custom content: this is the link that anybody can to use to download my own work: http://www.divshare.com/download/23679707-33a It includes 2 folders: one with model, desc, and lot files; the other with screenshots of the BAT models, so you can see which is which. BAT scenes are not yet included, but they will if I get requests.

Thank you all for your comments! -e grazie agli amici italiani https://community.simtropolis.com/public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/1.gif @ smf_16 Nice idea to make a Roman city centre! I have used buildings available on the stex, the lex, simcitypolska, some from Japanese sites, and some hundreds made by myself -for example, the medieval walls set, and all the buildings with overhanging porticos. @ zahrul You are right about the jpg, unfortunately I didn't know about loading times, and have now not much time to make up for the mistake. Sorry for the inconvenience! About textures, I agree with you. The thing is, as Italian-styled buildings are extremely rare on any exchange, I decided to use my time batting a large number of buildings rather than making perfectly realistic textures. However, if so requested, I will provide the link to download my BAT files for everybody to enjoy and improve -keeping in mind that Italian colours are anyway more saturated than in Northern Europe, even in the real world.

Thank you Vivapanda, in fact I've only posted half the pictures, as more were not allowed. I still have to show you the railways, the suburbs, the industrial areas, and the countryside. I'm glad you like it, it's been a lot of work!
