  1. Show us your home City's skyline

I don't understand why Perth (and Chicago, too) continues to ruin their waterfront with highways and massive roads! Sure, it sounded like a good idea way back when they constructed it, I'm sure, but I think there comes a time (now!) where it has to change. It's so detrimental to recreational space with great potential, and could even allow development to inch a little closer (Chicago is good, but that field there in Perth looks a little too generous).
  2. Urban vs Rural

I love the dense urban cities because anything you need will likely be within walking distance or within a reasonable distance by public transit. I could never survive very long in a rural setting!
  3. A Fight on New York's Skyline

Here's an update which occurred a while ago, probably shortly after I posted this: Vornado's permits were taken away and they're in the process of trying to sell the thing off to whoever they can. There's still a big pit in the middle of downtown and nothing is getting done. I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened with the project this thread is about.
  4. Favorite Public Transportation System

  5. Show us Your Interchanges!

Jayster, I think it's amazing! I really love it, and as I said before, I don't like massive interchanges in my cities, but this seems so reasonable and rather compact, I think I will attempt something like this at some point. It is very well done! Just one [minor] problem I have; I don't like how the textures are. It just bothers me how some have textured grass while most tiles are transparent! I would probably use different highway walls, too. But these work just fine.

  7. Show us your.... Snow Covered Cities!

Amazing attention to detail, residentsim! What a beautiful edit, very well done! I like how you left a little bit of slushy snow on the road in the top right, too!
  8. NAM: Requests

Ok, so that eliminates almost everything I said, then, huh? Actually, literally everything. Not even elevated rail on rail will work? Perhaps monorail on rail would work? And monorail on GLR? Well, anyways.... Would like to see some Elevated Rail on Avenue at some point. Maybe elevated highway on rail, just to reduce the amount of space that rail infrastructure takes up even further.
  9. Show us your Oddities!

LOL @ weareanidiot! Hahaha Kinda reminds me of the movie 2012.
  10. NAM: Requests

Page flip... no wonder why no one is replying to me... -.-
  11. Such a building should require a certain amount leveling of transit use and be a reward building of sorts, IMO. Would it be possible for it to increase the capacities across the city? Or perhaps reduce maintenance costs x%?
  12. NAM: Requests

I'm not sure if these are being worked on and/or have been suggested before: A la "El over Road" Dual Networks: Elevated Highway over Ground Highway Elevated Highway over Avenue Elevated Highway over Rail Elevated Rail over Rail Elevated Rail over Ground Light Rail Okay, now this may be complicated, but if you can do these, I will love whoever makes it FOREVER: Elevated Highway over Avenue with GLR Elevated Rail over Road with GLR Elevated Rail over Pedmall with GLR Ramps for Elevated Highway network down the at-grade Highway/Avenue network would be nice. Interchanges, side ramps, and intersections absolutely necessary. I may post a full list of puzzle pieces at a later time.
  13. A Fight on New York's Skyline

From what I hear this was approved already. Interesting fact: The developer of this building, Vornado, currently has a hole in the middle of downtown Boston in a spot where many people, including tons of tourists, see it every day. Any progress has come to a stand still, and their permits are about to be yanked to lower the property value so the city can seize it through eminent domain. It is an absolute blight and a travesty. Vornado did this before, and in NYC, I believe. The city seized it and Vornado came out with profit.
  14. Show us Your Interchanges!

Well, I didn't post any interchanges, but, err-- Thanks!
  15. Show Us Your Ghost Highways and Ramp Stubs!

I like this alot, great thread idea! I actually wish I had something from the game to contribute to this, but I always must finish everything, or just remove it/make it complete some other way. I do have some real life examples though, such as the I-95 interstate right of way in Revere and Saugus, Massachusetts. Also, the I-95 junction with Rt128 in Canton, MA has stubs. These I-95 abandonment came from a canceled plan to run I-95 straight through Boston. I would say it's best that it didn't happen... US3 also has stubs, like the ones in Canton, where it meets Rt128, in Burlington, MA. I'm not sure of the complete ROW, but it would require going through some upscale towns before entering Cambridge, MA. There are also some very small ramp stubs left over from I-695 (the inner belt) project, but I believe some were eliminated in the Big Dig.
  16. A Fight on New York's Skyline

Yeah, let's just bend to the will of a has-been tower. Jeeze.... From the sound of things I thought this thing was going to be right next door.
  17. It's amusing but hardly practical. As the article cites, the country needs to address health, education, and infrastructure, and they're planning cities the shapes of animals? What? Also, if this city grows (which any city should aspire towards), then what happens to the animal? It loses shape... Looks good on paper, just please, if anybody is listening, don't do it.
  18. Interesting Design

This is like, the epitome of auto-centric, and yet there's hardly any parking. I wouldn't move here unless I had a helipad or worked from home. Then again, I just wouldn't move there, period.
  19. What is your favouite airport?

Anything besides Boston's Logan Airport. The proximity to the city is both a blessing and a curse. I would say architecture is all pretty standard and common, though I can't remember ever really paying attention of all the times I've gone.... EDIT: The security here is also the worst and the trashiest and most disrespectful that I have EVER dealt with. I'd like to give them all a nice slap across the face one day if I ever win a free flight to some place I'm not interested in.
  20. Show us your Oddities!

^ An open air BRT subbus stop! But I don't see any tunnel bores...
  21. Show us Your Interchanges!

Excellent work, Bepi! I hate these RHW interchanges that take up huge swaths of space but I like this very much! It actually makes me want to attempt something similar! Not sure if I like it with the wall around it though, trying to imagine it without the wall and not sure what way would look better.
  22. Show us your Night Shots!

io_bg: I'm speechless, your mosiac is absolutely stunning. I love the train station, the pedestrian plaza over the avenue intersection, the use of El and El-over-road. It's fantastic!
  23. Originally posted by: Mike_W I would have to say Kennebunk, Maine. It's a nice, peaceful town in southern Maine right along the ocean. It is where I have taken my vacation to every summer. At a close second I would have to say Cape Elizabeth, Maine. That is another really nice quiet place I like to visit in the fall. You can watch all the ships leaving Portland harbor, but you don't get the hustle of the city all around you.quote> Ah, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, but of course! I have to say I find York, ME to be a nice little place, too. Would like to mention Salisbury, MA, Hampton, NH, and Rye, NH.
  24. Hmm, probably: Arlington, MA - Very urban and dense for a town. Major 8-lane highway basically terminates and turns into a 4-lane surface road just past the border on the way into Boston, though. Red Line ends at the border and could be expanded into the town (would be great, especially with the poor highway, but is not going to happen any time soon). Basically 10 minutes to downtown Boston. Has a nice bikepath through it known as the Minuteman Trail. Marblehead, MA - Lovely rocky on-the-sea New England town. Right next to the city of Salem, MA. Nantucket, MA - Nantucket, well, duh! Rockport, MA - I love Rockport! Same as Marblehead except not really close to any city. It shares an island with the eastern half of Gloucester, MA. Gloucester is lovely, too, but I believe that's a city. Wakefield, MA - I live close, so maybe I'm bias. Hehe. Nice downtown, however commuter rail line is pretty congested due to many single track lengths throught the lines entirety. Would be great if they'd follow through with plans to extend the Orange Line throught this town, but seems to be currently off the table. Unless cities may be included, too, this is what I've got.
