  3. Original Thread: Getting rid of Brown Boxes Getting rid of brown boxes in-game by: Hordijk This is a little note is for “getting rid of brown boxes in-game” that a lot of people are wondering about. Table of Contents 1. Here's what to do 2. Further Problems 1. Here’s what to do When you download a lot, there are sometimes so-called dependencies (other downloadable stuff needed for this file), and if some of these dependencies are not installed (not installed in your plugins folder), you may have brown boxes popping up in your city when this lot is being plopped/grown. Therefore, always, before you download an item, make sure to read the item description. In addition, most of the time there is usually a Readme file included where you can read of what dependencies you need. 2. Further Problems Now if you checked both and still can’t get rid of the Brown boxes, contact the creator. Most likely he or she has forgotten about listing the needed dependencies. You can always contact me. Email: Hordijk.Pim@hotmail.com Pm: me Brought to you by: Hordijk Original Thread: Getting rid of Brown Boxes Return to Top
  4. Night Lighting for BATs

This tutorial will help you activate the night lights that come with certain BATs from the STEX. It has been discussed numerous times in the forums and its question comes up repeatedly: How do I get the night lighting to work? There are several steps to take and most of them involve downloading additional patches and tools which will allow you to install the BAT update that activates the lights. Please note that you will need to have Rush Hour or the Deluxe edition installed or it will not work at all. *Please note, that if you do not want the SimCity 4 BAT installed, or have no intention of using it, simply download the BAT update. This will ultimately allow you to have nightlights in your cities. Be sure to use steps 1 and 4-5. 1. Patch your game Go to http://www.ea.com/simcity-4-deluxe and download the Rush Hour/Deluxe edition patch for your game. Do not forget to select the correct patch for the territory you live in. After the update is downloaded, install it. 2. Install Gmax (optional) To be able to install the BAT, you will need Gmax installed, so download Gmax for free here: http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax 3. Install the BAT (optional) After Gmax is installed, you can install the Building Architect Tool (BAT) which can be found here: http://kurier.simcityplaza.de/download.php?file=303&go=1 When you have downloaded the file, install it. 4. Update the BAT We are almost done. The last step to take is updating the BAT. You can find the update here: http://kurier.simcityplaza.de/download.php?file=307&go=1 Once more, download and install. 5. Completion Once all of the above steps are completed start up your game. Open up a city that has downloaded BATs in it - which also have night lighting mind you - and run the simulation for a short time at day time. Then switch over to night time and if you installed everything correctly the night lighting should work.
  5. Night Lighting for BATs

  6. Auto Installer Directions

Some people do not know that with an auto installer provided with some of the downloads on the STEX, you can select the folder where you want it to be installed in. Using the default location provided by the installer can ruin your personal method of organizing your plugins. Sometimes certain authors also have their own way of creating certain folders in the plugin folder during the automatic installation for their own files. Luckily, if you do not like this, it can be redirected. Here’s a brief note on how to do this: When you download a file with an auto installer in it, run the installer and click next like you normally would until you run into a screen similar to this: If you are in the right screen you should see a bar with a directory where the files will be installed, like with me in the picture above marked in red. If you want it to go to a different location, simply select the button with the three dots on it or whatever button you might have next to it. You will get a screen like the following where you can browse your directory: Now simply select the location where you do want your files to go in the directory by expanding the tree to the location of your preference. After you've done all of this, you can go to your chosen folder and see if all the files are there. Also, never forget to read the enclosed readme if there is one because it can provide essential information as to where to install your plugins.

Everyone should have the right to state his opinion, whether in your opinion it's good or not. If it sickens you ignore those people.

  23. Court of Arbitration and other ideas

To get back on topic a bit. As you can see the arguments alone to this idea in for and against are huge, could you imagine if we would have a court or anything similair to that? The ideas would never be the same and the opinions about if somebody did anything wrong or right would be to different from eachother, which would lead to endless discussions on who's right and who's not. In the end an admin would need to step in and make the final call. Therefore I think that skipping this step and let it up to the moderators and admins if anything is good or right is the best solution. Things that you also need to consider with these proposals are money, time, technologie, etc, etc. Not everything is possible because of these above noted things. Also the "people" when using something that is free and doesn't costs them anything, don't nessecary have any right on helping the ones who do pay unless they are asked to. Everything that is ok beyond that is something to be happy with. The one who pays decides what happens. I allready hear you saying "I don't want to change the rules/procedures" but you did want to change rules/procedures else you wouldn't have started this thread in the first place.
