  1. terraforming rivers/coasts

I'm having trouble in my region getting valid places to put my seaports/ferries. I have lots of land and lots of sea next to it, but there are very few places where the structure turns blue and allows me to plop it. I'm not sure how to terraform it to improve this...any tips? The other posters pretty much said what I would have said. You have to make sure the shore is relatively straight (it doesn't have to be perfect) and close to sea level. The flat area needs to extend inland a bit, too.....maybe about 4 tiles. Larryparadise's technique of using single street tiles to flatten, straighten, and smooth out the shore is exactly what I do. Good advice.
  2. I've tried and tried, but I can't get it to go negative. All it does is flatline at -0-.
  3. I'm teasing you, of course. But I really do look forward to them when you have a chance to make them. I highly doubt I'll be able to bump that to the top of your list, though. My mayor rating is at 100 right now, and doesn't appear to be dropping anytime soon. BUT....one can try. I just need to make sure I have a backup of the city in case I accidentally save some unfortunate changes.
  4. Custom Road/Highway Signs?

Interesting question. I know there is a feature in the game which allows you to put labels on your roads, and signs anywhere in your city. Is that what you're talking about?
  5. Rock for Shorelines

No problem. I will say this, however: I realize you would rather get it right the first time so you don't have to go in and out with the mod, but I felt that way too - and the selections I thought would look nice together ended up looking stupid. So it's really kinda hard to get an accurate idea of how they work together unless you simply test them out.
  6. I think you are right, but I wasn't able to do it in my little 10 minute test. I think we have a challenge - The first person to post a picture with a negative mayor rating, and a description of how it was accomplished receives a free Lot (let me know what you want, and i'll whip it up) Uh huh. I'm still waiting on my little commercial buildings I asked you to make several months ago. You know, the ones that would look like old homes which have been converted into commercial shops, so I can use them as antique stores, coffee shops, and galleries in my arts district? Remember the comment I left for you about Yeah, yeah....no more excuses. Get crackin', boy! Time's a wastin'.
  7. Rock for Shorelines

thank you. so i was looking more into the coastal/shore modds you sent the links for and was a little confused by what constitutes the foreshore, inshore, offshore. could you clarify for me? i don't want to have to go back in and out with these modds if i can get it right the first time. thanks again. I have that same exact water/coastal mod, and I LOVE it. You pretty much have to play around with the different colors to see which combination you like best. I know the offshore is the color you choose for your deep water areas...such as the middle of the ocean and rivers. But my memory is a little fuzzy about the inshore and foreshore. I might be wrong, but I think the inshore is the color you choose for the shallow water areas close to your shore, and the foreshore is the texture for the area right where the water meets the land.
  8. Sorry, I have toned it down a little, I do it so that the post stands out from the rest of the thread. I understand. No harm. It just jumped out and smacked me in the face. LOL! It's all good...I appreciate you wanted to make sure people saw it.
  9. SC4 Extra Cheats DLL

If you don't have any updates to the game, the Extra Cheats DLL will not work. Yes, you need Rush Hour or Deluxe to use it. In fact, most of the custom plugins for SC4 will not work without the RH/Deluxe version. Basically, you're going to need to install one of those expansion packs (may as well go with Deluxe), and then go to this page to obtain the update patch that will take your game up to version 1.1.638. Be sure to download the appropriate one for the region where you purchased your game. Simply download it, unzip it, then run it. It will install itself and update your game automatically. (Or for that matter, it would probably be best to simply purchase an already patched SC4 Deluxe game from Amazon or Gamersgate, which also does not require a disk in the drive.) After that, if you encounter any further issues you don't know how to resolve, feel free to post in the appropriate forum. Happy gaming!
  10. I think it happens with a lot of us. I just twiddle my thumbs or dust off my keyboard while it's loading.
  11. I was referring to your post. It's not necessary to use such a large red font to inform us of your update.
  12. No Difficuly?

That's a question we can't answer for you. Sorry. If it bothers you that much, contact EA and tell them of your situation.
  13. Maintenace/Performance thread.

Well, here's the thing. I realize a lot of new people are coming to the site to talk about the new Sim City, but it's causing some major lag and it's crowding out the rest of us who want to discuss SC4. I see a lot of griping and barking about the game, which just uses bandwidth. I mean, I realize they're welcome here. But I can't tell you how many times I've simply given up on trying to open a page or post a comment lately because I wait and wait and wait for the page to load. Even today I've tried several times to open some threads, but the activity spinner on my browser just keeps twirling away. And sometimes my comments are simply not going through. I used to enjoy coming here to interact with others, but now I'm getting annoyed by the lag. So at times I just give up and close the browser tab, then move on to something else. Sorry to vent....just giving my two cents on the matter.
  14. Well, unlocking everything doesn't mean you have to plop everything.
  15. You could try the "you don't deserve it" cheat. That makes them all available.
  16. Can I just ask a question for a moment? Why does everyone keep insisting you need version 1.1.640...??? I have stayed at version 1.1.638 and the game works perfectly fine for me. I understand you need 1.1.640 if you download custom buildings and want to see their nightlighting, but you don't need it just to install BATs in your city. If you don't play in night mode...which I'm sure is the case for many of us, including myself... then all custom content works just the same with version 1.1.638. Not arguing. Just sayin'. EDIT: Never mind. Apparently I need to start reading all comments first before posting. Sorry for the rant.
  17. Just curious...do any of you play the game without using custom plugins? I'm not talking about the NAM or anything.....I think we all pretty much use that. But do you play the game straight-up with the standard Maxis parks and buildings that already came with the game?
  18. The new pope is...

Oh - sorry about that. I didn't realize there was already a thread set up for religious discussions. I've searched, but I can't locate it. I'm sure I'm probably overlooking it, but if you could post the link when you're able to, that would be great. No rush, though. Thanks!
  19. The new pope is...

I was actually kinda hoping maybe the staff could create a separate Religion subforum here at Simtropolis....?? (That was a hint.)
  20. CBD Location Question

I totally agree with A Nonny Moose. He took the words right out of my mouth. Number 1 is definitely the place to put your CBD.
  21. Construction sound

I've had this exact same problem in the past. It is indeed related to a slope mod....I think the one which causes it is the BRF Slope Mod. Is that the one you're using? Unfortunately the only way to eliminate the constant construction noise is to simply turn off sounds in your settings, turn down your speakers, or remove the slope mod from your plugins folder.
  22. My friend, we will always strive to help you if we can. We don't always have the answers, but we aren't going to brush you aside out of spite. But to be honest, your problem leaves me scratching my head and I truly don't know what to say about it. It's just odd. I've never heard of something like that happening. It's as if your game exists in a parallel universe and does everything the opposite of what it's supposed to do. You said you haven't downloaded any mods, but I'd almost swear it sounds as if something has been inserted in your game which is causing the opposite effect of what is supposed to happen. I'm sure it's frustrating for you. Let us know when you get the patches installed. In the meantime, someone else might come along who can help you better with this. Given it's the weekend, there may not be many people hanging around the forums who could give you a different perspective on this.
  23. That stands to reason, yayaya1. Large cities contain more objects for the game's engine, and your computer, to manage. Since large cities have more content, it will take longer for the graphics to catch up when you're scrolling.
  24. As I understood the OP's post, they are referring to all drivable pavement...streets, roads, avenue, OWRs, highways. They just want to place mass transit only.
