  5. Nightlighting is put into the bat/mod/building when it is created. It has nothing to do with downloading other mods to make it work. The only way to make the building(s) have nightlighting is to go into a 3d Bat program or something similar and to manually create the nightlighting yourself.
  6. Logo Ideas

Hello Simtropolis I have a problem, and i would kindly ask for some help. You see, i am in the process of starting my own business, Mainly repairing computers and also any other electronical equipment (TV's, Radios, Surround Sound systems, Etc.) And Building and selling Computers. I have ideas pouring out, like advertising ideas, budgeting, Price Schemes, But, for the love of shiny things, I cant think of a good logo. So, i was going to ask, what are some good ideas? This is a start of idea that i have so far. Just this shape. But, believe it or not, it was a hallelujah moment with this shape. I was eating fries, and they fell into this shape. I began to look at the fries, and like in a movie, Music started playing in my head (seriously, I started hearing Hallelujah! Hallelujah! *), and i jumped up and scribbled down the shape. Its a simple shape, but i like it ANYWAY....The only Criteria is that it has to have Carter somewhere around, by, through, etc. It doesn't have to be this shape either. But id probably lean toward designs with it involved. I would much appreciate any feedback. *Maybe hearing music in my head isn't a good thing...But all successful entrepreneurs are a bit crazy anyway
  7. Logo Ideas

@ Nonny Moose Nah. I dont plan on it. Not yet anyway. I want to build it up until i can get enough capitol coming in to move into a physical residence comfortably. @ Meg Hmmmm....ideas ideas.....
  8. Logo Ideas

@ Nonny Moose You know....now that i think of it...The shape isnt that swell... I do fully understand the implications of starting my own Business and have thought about it. I have already talked to my local government offices and have gotten a plan of attack on how im going to start to run things. My plan is, indeed, to start to work out of my house, and to make house calls to people if they need it. I am also currently in the process of purchasing binders, invoice papers, filing cabinets, and other organization tools. Since im starting out low on capital im going to be doing things budget friendly for awhile and if need be, wait on purchasing certain things that i may not need quite yet. But my ultimate plan is to have a physical buisness in at least 10 years. The only thing left to do is to contact a local CPA or other such tax buisness. I do know that here in the US, you have the same types of tax exemptions with housing and automobiles. And trust me..im glad that you've been there. It gives a little extra help
  9. Advertising and Persistence of Memory

Ohhhh lets see... Chevrolet- The heartbeat of america. I can still imagine a chevy silverado driving up on top of a mountain with 'like a rock' playing Mcdonalds- We love to see you smile. Yeah..... Clap on! Clap off! The clapper!

Sales have to be in the millions worldwide, and unfortunately, People would much rather play a mindless FPS or a hack-and-slash, then play a strategic video game. Why do you think City-Builders and RTS' For the most part, kinda stink? Because people dont wanna think when they play a game. Besides the fact of Starcraft(which, why it sold was because its a Blizzard game.) RTS' and City-builders dont have a huge following. Plus, Most people who buy those games are smart, and wait till the price goes down, or the expansion packs come out. Well..okay, maybe not the last sentence. If a true sequel came out to SC4, id buy it at first sight
  12. The only way to add more variety is to either, like kolnikov inc said, Delete the repetitive buildings, or add more mods to the game.
  13. Daft Punk-Technologic Definately a freaky video but i love daft punk
  14. Total Lunar Eclipse 2010.

Like A Nonny Moose said, just because an artist like Leonardo DaVinci is popular, you dont have to like his art. Same with Simcity. Its what you make it. I fully understand your point of view, Because its what you see a CJ should be. Its what art style you prefer, you could say. Personally, i like heavily Custom contented CJ's because they bring out the full potential of the community and the game graphically. But i understand the 'Natural Growth' Cj's, because they bring us back to what Simcity was created for. The basic gameplay. They also show us the potential that the game can bring us all around. But, like i said, art is art. Everyone has their prefrences on what they like and what they dislike. Its what makes art, and Simcity, what it is
  16. Like is said above, No, there is nothing wrong with using maxis only for a CJ Like ive said and many have said countless times, Simcity is like art. A CJ is a showcase of your art. Whether you draw with crayola crayons, or sculpt out of marble, you can still create beautiful works of art. Its not what you have, its what you do with it. And there have been some great CJ's based off of Maxis content. Custom content just helps. Its like, take Maxis content. Thats like a large artists pack of 50 crayons 40 pencils, etc. Now create art with that. You are more than able to do so. Custom content however is like this. You are granted access to a large art store, and you are able to use anything in there. You can create the same art, you just have more to work with, like that certain color that wasnt in the pack that you had at home. Both art pieces are fantastic (unless your as good an artist as me, then your stick figures still look horrible) and you can take pride in what you've done Originally posted by: kolnikov inc ..i think the idea of a completely vanilla city journal (no mods, no NAM, no custom content, no cheats) goes against the orientation of this website...the only way someone could achieve anything with a vanilla CJ, would be to use it as a platform for explaining the deeper logarithms and core functions of the original game..a game that has many flaws and bugs, by the way..... quote> Just to answer back at what you said, No it doesnt go against the site orientation. Simtropolis is a fansite built, designed, and showcased to bring fans of the Simcity games together and to share ideas, thoughts, designs, and anything Simcity related. To go against the site orientation would be to hampen any one of those and any one who opposes. This site may be a dirktatorship, But its a benevolent one And yes the game has flaws, but thats one thing that makes it fun. Trying to work around problems to gain an ultimate goal is what this game is about

    828. Woo! Im joining in! @astro-You could always do what i did...decide that i had enough and wiped my hard drive....wait....nevermind....Bad idea. *slowly scoots sideways out of picture*
  20. You can. There are plenty of CJ's out there that are created without money cheats. I dont remember exactly some that do, since i havent been on here in quite some time, But there are. A CJ is simply a journal of how you created your city or region. It is used to show off your hard work, no matter how you did it. A CJ could consist of everything from 100% Vanilla content, to not a trace of vanilla content. It is used to showcase your abilities and, like i said, your hard work. Also, there are no such thing as a 'Bad CJ'. Well... if you post repeated pictures of the same thing and all you say is I Liek Mudkips! then it would be bad, but A CJ is what you can do, and how you do it. Like many have said...You are an artist....And Simcity is your Canvas. Stick to the rules of an artist.

Then you gotta worry about whether or not when the fault ruptures whether it creates a enough heat to send a plume of molten rock up to one or more of the wonderful volcanoes we have in that part of the world. quote> Kinda glad i live in the Midwest Though we still have a fault. And its said that if it goes off, which we are destined to have one soon (we've had at least 3 little tremours in the past 3 or so years) it is supposed to be strong enough to destroy most bridges over the Mississippi river, essentially dividing the US in half. But key words are 'supposed' and 'if'. Plus, we still have a northern route and also planes But we wont have volcanoes erupting. But my hopes go out to everyone there. Lets hope they make a speedy recovery

  25. Originally posted by: Bplax15 If the Wii had a better graphics system it would win hands down. The utilization of motion, especially with the addition of motion+, it really put you in the gamequote> Oh.....Get ready for the ranting....... [ranting][ridiculously long post] First off..i am a PS3 fan...because i just love the system. But the Wii is an amazing system. The reason the wii doesnt have 'better' graphics, is because it runs in 480. The wii graphics are exceptional (just look at games such as Epic mickey, Kirby Epic Yarn, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, etc.) They may not be 'Realistic', but, really, how realistic is an italian plumber battling an evil turtle or a pink blob thats able to shapeshift? The reasoning behind Nintendo only going for a 480p max was because it wanted to wait till the market stabilized out. Now that it has at 1080p, they are planning on releasing a new system come 2011 or 2012 that will be able to utilize 1080p. But it doesnt matter, because in order to get a good wii game, you need a good ARTIST creating that game. And thats what the wii graphics are about...is artistically is it a good looking game. Originally posted by: Zelgadis Well... Rundown of what I have and have had: Atari 2600: Lots of great stuff. Lots of crap, but graphics and sound were often greatly outshined by other consoles of its day. Atari 800: Much better, but lacked accessibility. Tape drive was a massive detriment in the early years that the disk drive that came later alleviated. NES: Good system, tons of games, lots of great stuff, lots of crap. First D-pad controller, as far as I know, and it was awful. With the NES Advantage, it was a great system. SNES: A worthy sucessor to the NES. Fewer games for this than the NES, I think, but the D-pad was much improved. Probably the best of the 2-D era. Genesis: Good system hobbled by a lack of variety. You'll love it if you like certain kinds of games, hate it if you don't. N64: Wow, where did this piece of garbage come from? Awful controller. I can count the number of good games for it on on hand. PS1: Good system. Lots of good games. Most importantly, introduces a fantastic controller that sets the standard for everyone to follow. PS2: Another great system. One of the best. Lots of great games. Sony was smart enough to leave the controller design alone. Detriment is that it's expensive for developers and indie companies inevitably start falling by the wayside. GameCube: Good system, not great. But it's solid, stable, and does what it does very, very well. Just too bad it doesn't do much... The optional GBA/GB player that attaches to the bottom gives it a nice gold star though. PS3: A very well-built, do-it-all machine. Sometimes gets a little tipsy on software updates, but overall, it's quite solid with a library that's growing faster than ever. Wii: Oh god, Nintendo, please stop. If you can't make the Wii-mote work properly, then stick to traditional controllers. At least make most of your games standard-controller compatible so that those of us who don't like waving our arms around like idiots can play too. And would it kill you to stop rebooting your old franchises? They're getting tired. Or, at the very least, release some new, interesting games that aren't gimmicks in a cute wrapper. GameBoy: Not a bad start for Nintendo in the handheld area, but it really did have the most awful screen of any handheld system ever. GameBoy Advance: Better, but still had screen issues. Get the GameBoy Advance attachment for your GameCube and play them there. PC/Mac: Can carry the biggest, most in-depth, graphically-intensive games in existence. And they're crashy and buggy. Honestly, I have never in my life played any game on any PC or Mac anywhere that wasn't full of bugs. And for the record, I still own all of these game systems except for the N64 and the Wii. My TV area is a tad cluttered... ISFquote> Okay...here we go on continuing ranting.... Atari- Not much to say here. It was a real early system, so there is going to be alot of horrible stuff to say about it. But a decent system for its day NES-......Well....it was a great system. This system piloted Nintendo to what they are today, no doubt about that. Good things to talk about...bad things too. An amazing selection of games, and the controllers were definately finicky at times. SNES- same as the NES. Great system, great games, Not much else to say N64- Oh boy...this is where it starts. Besides the controller (which i admit, the most useless and hard to use thing ever) The system was amazing. Amazing games, and some firsts. First to offer Online play, First to offer a Hard drive version, And one of the first to delve into the realm of 3D. I cant even count the number of good games in my head. This system did everything from mario again to 007 and each game was phenominal. Gamecube- Definately a system where i wonder why people didnt catch on. Yes, there were some iffy titles and such, But its a good system. Wii- Wii remote not work properly? well thats odd, because i find it one of the most responsive controllers out there. And i can get 20+ people that say the same thing. Nintendo did good on this system. And standard controller compatible? Yeah. They do that too. 80% of titles do. The other 20% wouldnt seem right at all to be played on a standard controller. And 'rebooting old franchises'? Okay. Get rid of Zelda, Mario, Kirby, etc. Because they are all getting to be bad games. Actually all zelda games besides the first one or 2 all got a rating of 80% or higher. ALL. No other series can say that. Mario is an excellent game and will always be one. Were there bad ones? Yes. But its Mario. They are going to oversell it at times, but they quickly realize that and release an excellent one to make up for their mistakes. Oh, and if the motion controllers are a bad idea, then why is Sony and Microsoft doing it too (and failing IMO)? Oh and one last tidbit. the Wii is currently the highest selling game console EVER PS1- Good system. Definately got me hooked on Sony and PS. Good games. Good system. Not much to say here. PS2- Oh wow. A huge selection of games. And alot of wonderful games to boot. Plus, for the system, did you know that it ran in 1080p? But no games did it because most TV's and other consoles didnt run in 1080, so there wasnt really any games made in 1080. The PS2 also debuted the Playstation eye, the first attempt at a controller-less motion control. And it had a large selection of DDR and Guitarhero to play on it. PS3- Its a supercomputer. Enough said. No, but really, A great system. Wonderful online play, great games, though not much of a selection like the PS2 had, and it can do anything XBOX- Good system that microsoft started out on. Good games, good console, just a well rounded balanced system. XBOX 360- Good, balanced system like the XBOX, But a HORRIBLE selection of games. Can you count how many shooters? yeah, you cant, because thats all there is. Its TOO much! Yeah, there are some good games, But when you get carried away with too many shooters, like COD, Halo, Singularity, Fallout 3, Bioshock, and so on, it just gets old. Sega- honestly....i cant say anything here, because i know nothing about them. Besides the dreamcast had a funky looking controller, and the only reason Sega failed as a console maker is because over half of the dreamcasts went bad. If it wasnt for that, we'd still have a sega console to this day GameBoy- Its a handheld. Its a handheld from the 90's. Its going to be bad. But IMO, Nostalgically, i love it. Its such a bulky piece of junk but its so awesome to play (In order) Gameboy pocket- Its essentially a GB color...but green and black. Not much to say here Gameboy color- What hooked me on video games. I still remember getting that purple see through gbc when i was little. But as the system goes...Not much different besides color added Gameboy advanced- Eh...better graphics, but its getting a bit boring seeing that the same concept 4 generations later is the same as the first gen gameboy. Nice idea to introduce talking in the form of GBA Videos, but it failed. Gameboy advanced SP- ...its the advanced. in a laptop-like form....and a backlight. Gameboy micro- Wow....can someone say moneymaker....*crickets* thats what i thought. this was a nintendo mistake partially because it was released around the same time as the DS DS/DS lite-Touch screen! and thats it. A better selection of games that the Gameboy series because of the better capabilities, and there was some really good games, but its just another tiny step forward. I mean....after *counts* 6 different handhelds, do you think they could incorporate at least some voice acting? DSi/DSiXL- Added video camara and wifi capabilities. and got rid of the GBA port. its the same darn thing as the DS/DS lite! PSP- Not going to go into this. Horrible handheld. Bulky, no game selection, horrible controls. The only thing going for it is voice acting, and im not sure that there is alot of that. and finally.... PC- Wonderful gaming platform. You can do ANYTHING...plus some. Yes...there are ALOT of bugs in computer gaming, but you have genres on the computer that consoles just cant do. like MMO's and City building games. Not to mention that you can get emulators and play all those old time games on your computer The only con is that after a year, its obsolete. A console can be the same for 7-10 years before it needs to be revamped. Computers need to be constantly updated, and thats a pain. If it picks up on motion extemely well then it would be the best in my opinion. quote> The kinect....is a good idea...But thats all. Motion controls have to be used while standing....at all times, and only certain types of games can be played on it. Give Microsoft 5-10 years and itll be a game changer. [/ranting][/ridiculously long post] Now on to my favorite systems. Favorite current gen- PS3/PC (Because pc's are always new Favorite all time- SNES Favorite hand held- Gameboy color EDIT: PS- if anyone finds out anything that is different from what i said, id love to hear. I try to be as equal on all systems when i first try them and i try to present facts. But if i say something wrong, id love to hear so i can fix it
