January 12, 1875 The City Council has passed a resolution to eliminate dirty industry and allowing them to move to new development south of the city between Forestville Rd and the teaching college. April 20, 1875 Mayor Robert C Buchanan, founder of our great city, has passed away at his home on Fredericksburg Street. With no mechanism in place for his replacement as mayor, citizens look to the City Council to resolve the crisis. April 23, 1875 The City Council announces that an immediate election will be held to replace the late Mayor Buchanan. If interested in running, see the public lobby channel of the city government November 4, 1875 Blackstone (R) defeats Anderson (D) by a wide margin in an election with very low voter turnout. He immediately takes office as the 2nd mayor of Buchanan. December 11, 1875 The Buchanan Public Library opens at the intersection of 6th Street and Antietam Street. March 30, 1876 Gray Anderson divides his land into plots and begins to sell to new settlers seeking a home in Buchanan. To much public fanfare, he also constructs a ferry line with 4 stops ending in one downtown. With the project already being deemed a success and less than half his road construction completed, the move will likely serve as a blueprint for large landowners in Buchanan for some time to come. November 2, 1972 After nearly 2 decades of pro-industry governance, Mayor Jack Price narrowly loses his re-election bid for a 5th term to Henry C. Strickland (moderate Democrat from Hamilton). December 15, 1973 The Marble Canyon Airport opens between Hamilton and Adams. July 14, 1974 Construction of an upgraded highway US-30 through the region on the northern side of the Lakota River begins. August 15, 1974 Liberty University is founded near Reed Station by Jerry Fallwell Sr, a prominent pastor from Virginia. The school's location was selected after prominent conservative business and community leaders in Reed Station offered significant discounts on land sales. March 6, 1975 A tornado rips through the area following along the northern shore of the Lakota River near Golan, Hamilton, and Oscar Woods. While the path of the tornado avoided most development, it completely destroyed a portion of the Hamilton Parkway Bridge. 2 people were killed in the disaster with over a hundred more injured. Most of the casualties were driving their car on the bridge when it collapsed. The same tornado outbreak killed 3 in Omaha. April 30, 1976 Construction of I-780 is completed with federal assistance. I-780 connects to Interstation 80 near Florence to US-30 near the Marble Canyon Airport through Richardson. Construction of I-980 on the west side of the city connecting through Hunter Crossing is also underway, which will complete a beltway around the city. August 1, 1977 Columbus Tower opens between 1st and 2nd Street in the heart of downtown. It is currently the 2nd tallest building in the city. September 1, 1978 Nebraska Tower opens at the end of 2nd Street along Porter Street downtown. March 15, 1979 A new minor league baseball team begins play in a new stadium downtown on land previously occupied by Dale Farm. September 1, 1979 Dale HS opens, and will begin competing in the high school football tournament in 1980. August 1, 1980 Vermont HS opens near Vermont Woods and Vermont Mine on the outskirts of Johnstown along I-80. It will begin competing in the high school football tournament in 1980. Those going east and west are numbered progressing south while those streets going north and south are named after Civil War battles he participated in.

He would eventually serve 4 terms, overseeing massive growth in Marble Canyon. The city invested in massive infrastructure projects, connecting downtown Harrison across the river to the north and east. In 1970, the federal government oversaw the construction of Interstation 80 through the region with exits accessing Emerson, Johnstown/Harrison, and Florence. The highway cuts through the middle of historic Johnstown, causing land values in the immediate vicinity to plummet. As the population nears 200,000 and the tumultuous 1960s in the rearview mirror, city leaders will need to reassess their social policies as unrest continues to increase. December 31, 1956: The Lakota River Nuclear Power Plant opens in West Florence, the first of 2 to be built in Marble Canyon. September 2, 1957: The Fairview Bridge opens connecting Fairview directly to Golan/Carsten and onward to Hamilton. March 1, 1958: The newly constructed Henry Tower is completed in downtown Harrison. August 4, 1966: The Western Parkway opens, connecting downtown Harrison through Winston and Pleasantview to Hunter Crossing. 1967 February 19: Harrison Courthouse is demolished and rebuilt as the Marble Canyon Courthouse. Anderson (Republican) President (USA): Dwight D. Eisenhower (Republican) Harris Creek in Pawnee, which has long gone dry, again sees waterflow as an overflow canal for fresh water. This provides a lot of opportunity for development in Pawnee as land values will likely increase. Oliver Farm and Victoria Farm in Harrison are sold to the city as the downtown area expands. The land is being used for two new train stations, a new high school (George Oliver High School), and overall development of the land. Much of the production of these farms is moved to nearby Dale Farm and Heather Farm. A new tram line is built from downtown through Winston and ending at the Mulberry Beach amusement park at the railroad bridge. In 1942, the United States government purchases a large tract of land near Siluria to build an air force training base. The entire region mobilizes its industries to assist the war effort, with a new local railroad line looping through the region with cargo stations at the airport in Siluria, Reed Station, Hamilton, and Hunter Crossing. Simultaneously, a local passenger rail line loops the region with passenger stations at Harrison, Port Murray, Florence, Pawnee, Reed Station, Jackson, Hamilton, Carsten, and Hunter Crossing. Webb (Republican) Governor (Nebraska): John Morehead (Democrat) President (USA): Woodrow Wilson (Democrat) The Lincoln Highway, one of the first transcontinental roadways in the United States, comes through Marble Canyon. It connects through the towns of Florence, Port Murray, Harrison, and Emerson (and bypasses Greenville, Johnstown, Siluria, and Winston) along the southwestern side of the Lakota River. The residents of the Mulberry Residence along Fort Laramie Road create a new amusement park in their backyard with terrific views of the Lakota River. They name the park Mulberry Beach and begin construction, with a roller coaster the initial landmark of the park. Note that there's a lot more work (particularly landscaping and decorations) to come to the park before we get to modern day. The Lincoln & Cheyenne Railroad's cargo station in Harrison is becoming way too overcrowded, causing traffic problems in the nearby neighborhood. Therefore, a cargo bypass is built with a new station south of Johnstown. Reed Station High School is the latest to build a football-specific stadium named Fitzgerald Field. The stadium is named after a long-term sponsor from the Marble Canyon Discord server. A forest fire almost completely destroys Oscar Woods near Hamilton. Sheldon (Republican) President (USA): Theodore Roosevelt (Republican) As an avid outdoorsman and conservationist, President Roosevelt establishes a series of national parks around the country. In 1907, he turns his attention to Marble Canyon. On January 29, 1907, Congress approves the creation of the Mount Roosevelt National Park in Marble Canyon north of the town of Hamilton. After winning its third high school football championship in a row, Johnstown High School supporters build a new football-specific stadium next to the high school. Though small, this the first football-specific stadium in the region. Settlement in the region continues to expand to the mountainous southwest with the establishment of the town of Siluria to take advantage of logging activities in the area in 1908. Anthony (Republican) Governor (Nebraska): John H. Mickey (Republican) President (USA): Theodore Roosevelt (Republican) 1906 is a time of optimism in Marble Canyon. Construction of the Western Nebraska Teacher's College in the town of Florence is being completed which will surely bring unprecedented growth and prosperity to the region. New citizens continue to flood into the region. While all towns are overshadowed by the cities of Omaha, Nebraska to the east and Cheyenne, Wyoming to the west, the town of Harrison (in the center of the map) has national ambitions and continues to grow rapidly. This has drawn the ire of other towns in the area (particularly Winston, but to a lesser extent Johnstown, Port Murray, and Florence) who would prefer their sleepy communities remain the same. The foundation of the Western Nebraska Teacher's College has brought statewide attention to the region, with the Legislature considering forming the area into a new county. While the motion failed in the Legislature, the issue is not resolved and future attempts will likely be made. Harris Crossing on the eastern shore of the Lakota River considers a name change in response to Portersville renaming itself Harrison. In homage to the native Americans people that once lived in the region, the citizens of Harris Crossing renames itself "Pawnee". Jackson Crossing also shortens its name to just "Jackson". The northern areas of the map, which were largely uninhabited prior to the Union Pacific Railroad coming through, continue to expand. Abundant natural resources have been found near Hamilton, just waiting for new mines to open. Ambitious entrepreneurs are always ready to accept this challenge, perhaps sparking a gold rush on the still sparcely-populated northern parts of the map. On the northern side of the western confluence of the Lakota River, a new town is established by a group of Polish immigrants. The town founders choose to name the town Golan after one of their own members. ((This is in honor of @Golan0 who has been consistently supporting the series by liking each post. June 19, 1905: Western Nebraska Teacher's College founded in Florence - In March 1903 the Nebraska State Legislature appropriated $50,000 to build a teaching school in western Nebraska. After 91 ballots, the Legislature accepted Florence's offer of 30 acres adjacent to the city and all necessary infrastructure. - The first classes on campus were held in the fall of 1905 as buildings were being completed. - The first president of the college is Anthony Nipp, who was originally from Iowa. - The stadium, capable of seating 2,000 people, is named after the current Governor of Nebraska John H. Mickey. It is used for most sports in the region, including hosting the high school football championship game. - With a college in Florence, nearby towns scramble to create high schools to reap benefits of the college. By the end of the year, all towns over 1,000 people plan for a high school. UPCOMING IN 1906: New town named after a subscriber.

1873-1876: 4 bridges built connecting to all land bodies 1884: Fishing pier built in Jackson, Harris, and Hunter Crossing August 8, 1889: Bridgeport established May 30, 1897: Reed Station built by Denver & Minneapolis Railroad January 20, 1899: Kansas City & Cheyenne Railroad builds station in Portersville. Personal connections between Portersville leaders and owners of the railroad cause the station to be built there. Leaders of Johnstown resent this as they also wanted the stop in their town. July 4, 1902: Portersville renames itself Harrison after the recently departed Benjamin Harrison. Leaders of the rebranded Harrison hope to grow into a national city. Many nearby communities resent this approach, particularly Florence, Johnstown, and Winston.

August 7, 1848: Greenville founded - A fire in the industrial area near Florence causes business owners to build a fire station. They plot a new town to help pay for the expenses, naming the town Greenville after a settler nearby. 1850 - The pier built by Arthur Murray goes bankrupt, becoming the dilapidated relic we see today. A new pier is built by a businessman named Amos Graves. The new pier does become successful. February 2, 1854: Winston founded - A town is built around a new fishing pier by Lucas Winston, who names the town after himself. March 4, 1858: Portersville platted - A group of 5 speculators from New York and Connecticut seek to build a new town on the frontier. - The town is named after one of the investors, also lending their names to the original streets. - It struggles to attract settlers initially but soon takes off because of spectacular views of the Marble Canyon below. October 28, 1858: Emerson founded - Terrence Emerson founds a new town in a flat area along Ft. Laramie Road April 14, 1859: Harris Crossing built across the Lakota River with ferry connection to Florence July 23, 1859: A speculator from Pennsylvania, John Squires, creates the town of Johnstown

July 11, 1840: Owen Patterson and his brother Jeremiah settle in the area and build a well June 2, 1842: Florence Harbor constructed - Florence Harbor is built by Owen Patterson in honor of his wife Florence, who died in childbirth the previous year. August 21, 1842: Jebediah Forrest settles in the area November 16, 1844: Forrest builds roads on his farm and sells lots - The new town names itself Florence after the nearby pier, hoping to appear as a place of commercial opportunity. - William Gibson, a settler from Pennsylvania, serves as the first head of Florence HS, the first in the area (1847). April 17, 1846: Port Murray constructed Robert Murray, a fisherman/settler from Louisiana, builds Port Murray.

Citywide High School Football Tournament Announced Beginning in 2024, the 8 largest high schools in the city will be invited to play a tournament at the new Washington Rebels Stadium in Rulo. Town of "Korver" Established The town of "Korver" has been incorporated along I-29 north of Oregon at the intersections of the interstate and US-59 and US-159. The town also includes the Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Rescue. The town is named to honor a prominent citizen @korver. Town of "Randyville" Established The town of "Randyville" has been incorporated along I-29 west of Craig. The town is named to honor a prominent citizen @RandyE. Town of "West Fairfax" Established The town of "West Fairfax" has been incorporated along I-29 west of Fairfax. Highway MO-46 is extended to meet the Interstate to service West Fairfax. Town of "Schmidt" Established The town of "Schmidt" has been incorporated along US-73 north of Padonia and south of Falls City. The town is named to honor a prominent citizen @kschmidt. Town of "Saitama" Established The town of "Saitama" has been incorporated west of Steinauer at the intersection of NE-4 and NE-99.
