  1. PSN Outage 2014: Now out yet again!

https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2185/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDEzNDkwMTU1L3NpZC95bVJYQzE1bQ%3D%3D PSN is down again, no reason given yet by Sony!
  2. After mounting public pressure, Bono has finally issued a formal public apology. Apple and Bono are still refusing calls to compensate users afflected with the free U2 album download. Should Apple and Bono compensate users for all the trouble the free U2 album download caused?
  3. Actually many if not most lawyers in the U.S. take the case for "free" and if you win they take part of the settlement. If you lose, then you pay out of pocket. Though only applies when suing. Everything else has a payment schedule Actually there is a function and both federal, state and local levels. All lawsuits and civil suits are reviewed by the courts to see if they hold merit and legal standing. If your suit doesn't "hold water" then it's rejected! In the EU, you can bring suit under consumer rights section and privacy section of EU law for what Apple did. With that said here some lawsuits over the past few years over consumer goods: EA/Bioware were sued by U.S. and Candian consumers over the Mass Effect 3 ending, causing the DLC and public statement. U.S. Federal Trade Commision and the EU Trade Commision also launched investigations into it Nintendo lost a lawsuit in U.S. Federal court in 2004 because it didn't put the health warnings regarding video games at system boot up, thus causing a kid to have a seizure from playing Gamecube game (The warning was on the back of the box and in the instruction manuel) Nintendo was forced to put health warnings at system boot up for DS and Wii All systems after that just have the health warning built in to the OS with an option to turn it off for good. Nintendo also had to pay out millions to the family invovled and cover the kid's medical bills. Sony has been formally sued over the frame rate and resolution of Kill Zone on PS4, because it doesn't fully maintain the frame rate and resolution listed on the back of the box Nintendo was forced to shut down, it's Swapnote app on 3DS to prevent parents from taking them to court in a very public fashion Pedophiles were using it to swap X rated pics with children Ever wonder why 3DS didn't have Pictochat installed? Thank American parents for that one too!
  4. It's not. Though Apple supposedly received millions of angry and upset customers calling and emailing them over this. Even the U.S. media reported on it along with any website that reports stuff about how this was one of the worst things ever done by a company! Apple and U2 recieved a massive consumer backlash and U.S. and EU regulators promised to look into it, to see if it violated any laws and legal customs. There is a good chance people will sue over it, if not a full regulatory intervention.
  5. City States

It's not that mysterious. D.C. is the capital and is governed by a few special clauses in the U.S. constitution. D.C. is governed by the U.S. congress, which in turn merged the cities and the district into one district government. This goverment has very limited charter and basic powers: Basic services such as garabage pick up and other utilities The right to have a school district controlled by the residents The right to some basic laws The right to issue driver licenses The right to issue license plates The right to issue other forms of licenses The right to have the same presidental electoral votes as the least populus state (Currently WY) The right to one non voting, non committee member, who's sole duty to is to present issues facing the district to the committee D.C. doesn't have: The right to levy its own taxes through the district's government The right to pass most laws The right of police power The right of regulatory powers The rights of building codes and building permits The right to build and maintain roads The right to zone and rezone the district The right to vote for congress Voting representation in congress The right to vote on constitutional amendments Legal representation in lawsuits Rights and powers of statehood The right to make, control and pass the budget (congress even controls the budget for D.C.) The right to change the charter The right to set the district's council size The right to set the district's elected officials terms The right to set the district's elected officials pay All the employees of the district government including the Mayor, council, fire officers and police officers are federal employees. An amendment was offered to grant D.C. home rule to that of a state, but the states voted it down.
  6. Apple sent the new U2 album to everyone that had an iTunes account, whether or not you wanted it. It appears in your purchased list on iTunes. If you had automatic download turned on, it downloaded the album to your device. If it bothered you to the point you wanted the song removed from you iTunes purchased list, you had to go through a site Apple set up for it. People are/were unhappy that Apple/Bono forced them to accept a free album, they didn't want with out their consent, against their will! These people have demanded compensation for this hanious act and the trouble it has caused them, while pointing out no other company would such a horrible thing to their customers.
  7. The depot allows the for the storage of industrial goods until they are needed eslewhere. It also allows you to export and import goods from the market and other cities in the region. With that said timing is also key, if the trucks are stuck in traffic then the commercial can fail. The Sims are fickle just as they are in Simcity 4.
  8. City States

City and state goverment are one of the same. Since the city is a state/province, it is represented in the national legislature and national electoral system. NYC. Chicago, LA, Detroit, New Orleans, Baltimore, etc... have limited home rule, but any change to their charter requires state approval as well as the city voter approval. Though the state has the power to revoke the powers as does the federal goverment. With that said NYC is special due to it have certain institutions. NYC has the Federal Court of Manhattan, which has special bankrupty and other business powers over companies and organizations that are worth over a certain amount or has a certain amount of revenue. There is also another federal court in NYC which is standard. There is the Federal Reserve of Manhattan which has special banking and regulator powers in the banking system. It is also the world's biggest gold respository (yeah it is bigger than fort knox by far) The three major stock exchanges are in NYC There is a U.S. treasury branch there as well Each of the 5 boroughs of NYC are counties in NY NYC also has 27 U.S. congressional districts, which gives the city 27 members in the U.S. House of Representatives. The U.S. government also gives money to cities over 1 million. UN building is technically international land, outside of the U.S. and NYC jursidiction as long as the UN holds the building. If the UN sells the building or doesn't want it, it reverts back to NYC. NYC was also the first U.S. capital. Detroit is a special case due to it being in bankruptcy. The home rule it had has been revoked and is now under a state appointed emergency manager and the U.S. bankruptcy judge/ The city government has minimal powers until such time the state feels they are able to govern effectively. Detroit is broken up between 3 congressional districts, some which include other cities. With that said, no new U.S. state can be created out of an existing state without the approval of the existing state and U.S. government.
  9. China Now Largest Economy in the World

Well to be fair U.S. economic policy is also the bedrock of global economic policy at The World Bank, IMF, UN, WTO, etc... Though U.S. economic policy and Post World War II global economic policy was created by Harry Dexter White, which was the chief American economist at Bretton Woods. White despised Keynes/European view of economics and with the backing of the U.S. goverment he imposed the American brand of economics and capitalism on the world. Nearly every country of the world has a capitalist market driven economy uses these principles: Open markets with minimal regulations Private industry controls all markets including healthcare Easy money and credit to fuel economic growth Free Trade No barrier to trade, especially for American goods Fully global integrated market with the U.S. at the center U.S. dollar as the global currency unregulated banking Low taxes and decent government spending to trigger growth Government is the backstop/underwriter of the system (you get more money in the long term from taxation to cover any bailouts that will happen) Any country that takes help from the World Bank and IMF also has to implement this economic policy. The problem here is nearly every country in the world has implemented this model while the EU has done a blended versoin with socialism (which is why Europe is bankrupt and the U.S. isn't) which is causing stagnation in the Europe for the past decade. UK on the other hand uses Keynesian model, causing the UK to essentially flatline economically and to lose their empire. Then there is Canada.... Someone had to cling to socialism model after the USSR broke up. Hopefully Harper can fully bring his reforms into being transitioning Canada to a full capitialist market based economy and democracy. Canada will greatly benefit from mass deregulation of telecoms, broadcasting, pensions, healthcare, food services, banking, auto, political finacing, etc... The goverment shouldn't even have a hand in financing of political parties and leave it up to the people like every other country. Every Canadian should be allowed to choose their retirement plan instead of having a goverment backed one imposed on them. Same goes for healthcare. Japan is the only non Western country to have a tightly controlled economy, though PM Abe is gradually deregulating it. This is causing Japan's economy to finally grow at significant rates since the 1980s (~5% this year). China is big economically mainly due to following American economic prinicples (Yes the U.S. economy was once ran like China's in the late 1800s and early 1900s) and currency manipulation (Well the U.S. did this too during industrialization) China's economy isn't big due to its population and isn't unable to sustain the economic growth. China is faced with similar issues that Japan, Germany, Russia, South Korea and Canada (mainy countries are facing a slightly less severe form of these issues). These issues are: Rapidly falling birthrates Rapidly falling TRF, should be negative by 2020 census (TRF = Birth rate - Death rate) Rapidly aging population (they are at ~10% elderly and will pass the U.S. by any year now, catch up to South Korea by the end of the decade) Rapidly rising wages Rapidly rising prices Rapidly rising cost of living Rising energy prices (it is really expensive to ship many goods across the oceans, thus canceling out cheap labor). Increasing regulation Businesses are leaving China in ever greater numbers for cheaper countries and returning to their home countries (due to costs of energy and doing business) Cost of IP theft and imposed barriers of foreign goods cost millions if not billions to foreign companies. Cost of piracy and knock offs have conditioned Chinese consumers to having products for free if not dirt cheap. Chinese population is expected to start naturally shrinking starting next decade at a signifcant yearly rate Banking restrictions imposed by the U.S., EU, and Japan are making it harder for many businesses in China to access the global banking and credit markets. China Vs. India: China has 1.33B people, India has 1.21B people China's populatoin growth is at 0.44% (yes that is less than 1%, comparedo the U.S. at 0.77%), India's population growth 1.2% China's GDP is $10.4 trillion, India is $1.67 trillion (This behind most of Western Europe, and is marginally behind Canada' GDP of $1.825 Trillion China's GDP growth is ~7.7% (it's dropping) India's has dropped to 3.2% China's population is less educated than India's and most of the world. China's leaders have direct control, while India is bound by a constitution and judicial review China has more natural resources than India China is less corrupt that India China has a focused national plan, India's policies come and go with the governing parties China's national debt is $5.1 trillion dollars (yes that is trillion), while India's national debt is at $936 million. Both debts are ~50% of their GDP and rising fast, most of it is borrowed externally. India and China like most of the developing world borrowed heavily from the global banking system and markets (which are controlled and HQ in the West). This will blow up when the global banking systems and markets call the debt in (Which they have the power to do so). This also means the interest rates are high and are proned to market dictation much like Greece, Ireland, Spain and Portugal saw. Buuuut what about the U.S. and Japan's debt.... Japan owes $10 trillion, which is 200% their GDP! Though this debt is owned internally by their banks and people, which gives Japan massively leeway in borrowing and repayment. The U.S. owes $17 Trillion which is 103% of their GDP. Suprisingly nearly all the borrowing is done internally. As of today the U.S. national debt breaks down as follows: $3 trillion + from Social Security (SSA holds special government bonds and is the single biggest holder of U.S. national debt) $2 trillion + is owed to Medicare Trust (second biggest holder of U.S. national debt) $3 trillion + is owed to Federal Reserve and other government agencies $4.76 trillion + is held overseas by mainly allies, Russia, and China $4.24 trillion + is held by American people, companies and the 50 states

yes i meant write offs. I was doing other things while posting. that response to your post is not a summary of anything. Also I didn't gather any information, I just know it off hand.

If a "real gamer" is someone who plays FPSs, RPGs and such, then I'm a "real gamer." As a "real gamer," I can say simulators are very much real games and are much less casual than any other genre I know of. Take SC4 for example, where us CJers nitpick over tiny details on 4km x 4km maps, and compare it to GTAV, where I sit down in a tractor trailer and rofl when I drive off a cliff (I'm being serious, I do that). As a "real gamer," I can also say that the communities for simulators are generally much more mature and creative than your average FPS community. Now then, I'll go ahead and say as a "real gamer" that there's no such thing as a "real gamer." Every game is real, whether it's mainstream or played by a small community, whether it came out yesterday or was made 20 years ago, or if it's rated M or rated E. They're all "real games." We're all "real gamers" because we all play games. This is all just my opinion though. I agree with you. The market research and Industry says otherwise.
  14. China Now Largest Economy in the World

Yeah at least a third of the Chinese are still in the countryside working as farmers and/or living in rural communities which by modern standards are very poor. But many things are expensive in many developed countries to. It's really hard to get onto the housing market if you're below 30 in the UK. About 50 million Americans are on food stamps and a lot of the American middle class are paying back debt from the house mortgage, the car and the credit cards. We live in expensive times I guess. First off I'm going to explain why there are 50 million Americans at or below the povery line. The poorest region in th country is Applachia (the coal region) The porest state are in the traditional South and haven't recovered from the Civil War. The poorest state is Mississippi Arkansas is right behind them Alabama Louisana Georiga Florida South Carolina Tennesse North Carolina Oaklahoma West Virgina (not the in the South) These states are poor because of backwards looking state development policies They also have the worst education and healthcare systems in state rankings West Virgina is the exception because of Big Coal's corruption They also get more from the federal goverment than the other states The majority of hte 50 million Americans who are poor live in those states The richest states are mainly on the northern East Coast: Maryland New York New Jersey Delware Maine New Hampshire Vermont Massachusetts Conneticut California Oregon Washington Michigan These states are the richest and pay way more in taxes to the federal government that they get back. The rest of the states are middle of the road The Great Recession spiked the numer of poor people outside of the South. Senior Citizens lost many of their benefits and had to pay more out of pocket. The rise in the cost of living and cost of healthcare ate the budget for most people (still better than getting socialized medicine like a certain border country) The cost of energy went up, raising prices for everything else State and local taxes went up The dollar weakened significantly The price of borrowing went up The ability to get credit became to hard The cost of education went through the roof People were laid off by the droves The job market has been quite slow to recover Employers have been making quite difficult to get hired The rest of the world is stangnating as well College folk and grads are have a huge amount of trouble just to get interviews (myself included) Wages went down IBM set legal predecent by firing employees at the 25-29 year mark to avoid having to pay retirement benefits. IBM won the suit at the U.S. Supreme Court, claiming a company can end employment for any reason at anytime as long as you are not a protected class and/or bound by emloyment contract. Other companies have been following suit. As for China's economy: Almost 1 billion Chinese are dirt poor and struggle to get enough food each day China manipulates its currency to keep it artifically low in order to keep costs down. China's encomy is on the verge of overheating When China's economy finally overheats, it will be plunged into a severe economic depression China is also facing political turmoil as well China is bleeding manufacturing jobs to cheaper countries Chinese government is literally building buidlings that no one wants and uses just to keep their economy going. Chinese goverment is rapidly expanding itself to offset the contraction of the private market China also has very weak labor laws China also has very weak patent and IP laws, which allows Chinese companies to steal from foreign companies China also has a state agency that regularly hacks foreign companies and goverments to steal data, products and designs China has also been cooking its books to make it seem bigger and better. In short China is on the verge of full over heating. If China allowed its currency to find a natural value in the market, they wouldn't be able to compete against Japan and the West. China also has huge tax on foreign products released in China, they also have a quotas on those products too. This makes it quite expensive to buy a foreign product. This isn't entirely true. American labor is cheapest of the industrialized nations, including Japan, EU, Canada and Switzerland. Most U.S. States and the U.S. Government also give you tax ride offs for investment, labor, and outsourcing! Most major companies pay pratically 0 taxes to the U.S. Goverment with many getting a tax refund.
  15. simcity 4 vs 5

That's interesting, you must be looking at a different game there. I still have the 3 boxed versions of SC4 which say on the back: SimCity 4: "Build and run your own city" Rush Hour: "Your city is on the move" Deluxe: "The biggest SimCity ever!" Companies regularly update there box art and each region has different box art too. There was at least 4 different versions of Simcity 4 box art before they went to Deluxe Simcity 4 Deluxe had a few different box arts as well.

The day of the free themes ended with PS3 because people were violating copyright laws and putting malware in the themes.

Sony is also charging for themes on Vita and PS4.

The paid 3DS themes are highly animated with sound effects for every little thing .

The NES Mario one has 8-bit Mario moving in slow motion. Each click in a direction he moves a little more.

Ever app/game you click makes the block sound effect and lakitu does something on the top.

  19. simcity 4 vs 5

This isn't true at all. Simcty 4 articles, reviews and ads leading up to launch was about how it was the most realistic city simulator ever and the most advanced. Maxis pushed simulation aspect and never called the game a city builder. The motto for the game was "The most realistic city simulation ever!" it was in the ads and it was the first line on the back of the box. The front of the box had the box art, Simcity 4, and Maxis and EA logos. The road to Simcity 4 and Simcity 2013 is listed below: Will Wright and the rest Maxis decided to make Simcity 3000 the first full 3D city simulator and it was supposed to be realistic simulation. They unveiled the game at E3 1997 to much disappointment. They worked on the game even through impending bankruptcy (which forced them to go to EA). When EA took over, Maxis was still struggling getting the engine to run. EA forced Maxis to stop development and modify the Simcity 2000 engine to run the game. Simcity 3000 we received was heavily scaled back due to PC processing power at the time. Maxis kept developing the 3D engine and hoped to turn Simcity 4 into that game with the advancement in processing power. Development became highly expensive and was taking too long, so EA slapped a deadline on Maxis. Maxis was forced yet again to modify the engine running Simcity 3000 for Simcity 4 late in development. Maxis was also forced to scale back Simcity 4 due to the PC gamer market not having enough processing power to run the final product. Simcity 4 is a highly borked simulator without mods because of the development hell it went through. Maxis finally was able to realize it's dream in 2011 to produce the full 3D city simulator engine they had intended to do in 1996. Simcit 2013's sequel will most likely be the full actualization of what Simcity 3000 was originally supposed to be. With that said Simulators have always been labeled kiddy and casual games by real gamers. Market data and research doesn't lie
  20. Stand up paddle boarding

Your brother must have bought Simcity Plus, which contains the expansion pack. This mean you will always encounter the futuristic menu. All the futuristic buildings are optional, if you don't want to use them, ignore them. If you place any in your city, it will cause the area around it to futurize.

  23. simcity 4 vs 5

This is pretty much how the two games boil down: Simcity 2013 Plus > Simcity 4 Deluxe Simcity 4 Deluxe + Modding > Simcity 2013 Plus + Modding (at the moment) Glassbox simulation > Statistical simulation of Simcity 4 (Simcity 4 was originally planned to have a new 3D engine) Simcity 2013 has less major bugs than Simcity 4 Deluxe (The game doesn't crash) Simcity 2013 data view > Simcity 4 data view Simcity 4 budget controls > Simcity 2013 Cities of Tomorrow > Rush Hour (I do miss the toll booths though) Simcity 4 has ordinances Simcity 4 has highways Simcity 2013 has more mass transit options Simcity 2013 has modules addons for education, mass transit, and government buildings Simcity 2013 region interactions > Simcity 4 region interactions Simcity 2013 doesn't require me to lay water pipes and powerlines Simcity 2013 traffic simulation = Simcity 4 Deluxe traffic simulation (unless you have NAM installed or Maxis patches 2013) Simcity 2013 has arcologies To be fair to Simcity 4 it was originally developed on a new 3D simulation engine, but due to technical difficulties and the needed processing power required, Maxis ported the whole game back to the old stats engine. Simcity 4 had the longest (5 years) and most troubled development of all the Simcitys to date. Simcity 4 also had a troubled launch, due to many users having major issues running the game and many had to upgrade their PCs, which Maxis was given a massive ear full. To be fair to Simcity 2013, Maxis purposeldy scaled down the game, the engine, and city size to meet the processing power of the consumers. Maxis made sure that fans and most consumers could run the game with minimal issues, as not to repeat the Simcity 4 launch. With all this said, neither game is better than the other. They are just two very different games. Simcity 4 is good for those who want to build massive cities and suburbs with minimal region interaction, with less realistic simulation. Simcity 2013 is good for those who want to build cities with mostly realistic simulation, in a near fully integrated region (with others if they choose so).
  24. Super Smash Bros

And Mega Man. Despite most of his earlier games appearing on Nintendo consoles, Mega Man is owned by Capcom. I forgot about him Little Mac is from the Nintendo series Punch Out!! The series was rebooted on Wii had mediocre sales, but was pirated 9x more than it sold.
  25. 25 Years of Maxis - A Tribute Video

Considering there are already several PC/Mac versions of the game, I'm not sure what purpose that would serve. The Saturn, Playstation, and SNES versions are themselves essentially ports of the original PC version, after all. 'course, the Playstation version is on PSN, and the SNES version could theoretically find its way into the Nintendo store if it hasn't already. But since Sega left the console market, no way to buy the Saturn version without finding a used copy of it. Actually the Saturn version is not a straight port. It has: Futurstic building set City evolve to futuristic building sets in 2000 or is it 2050 (it's been a while since I played it) Best interfaace faster loading times (faster than PC) More buildings to place More features Better cut scenes Playstation and SNES verisons are gimped ports.
