Abandoned due to commute time keeps happening again and again
Grayham posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
My large square city's population fluctuates between 1.2 and 1.3 million, I use the NAM (set to ultra capacity levels), I've cut off transport links to all neighbouring cities except one which is just for receiving garbage. I've gotten rid of all dirty and manufacturing industry. In the same places (south east and eastern and western edges of the main residential area), tower blocks are built, then become abandoned due to commute time, I bulldoze them, then it happens all over again. I have lots of monorail and loads of subway, and one highway going from halfway up the middle of the main residential area south into the commercial zone. Right now city population is 1,269,982, total commercial jobs are 648,115 and industrial jobs are 53,372 (I only have high tech industry) My main goal is to grow the biggest commercial skyscrapers the game offers, there's some I've still never achieved. Here's my zone view and jobs & pop, demand graph and what my tax levels: -

Erm, I didn't realise sims had to go out to eat 3 times a day like real life New Yorkers... But I thought I had too many jobs? Why would the game generate more jobs than needed if only 1 in 2 sims work? Who is filling those surplus jobs? (I'm not connected to any neighbours by road/rail except one which only contains landfill, some power stations and 1 farm) -

All 3 kinds of residential are abandoning. By mass transit you just mean buses, right? If memory serves (it's been a few months since I last played the game) after I added the NAM, less people were getting the bus and it seemed like an inferior mode of transport to subway and monorail so I decided to get rid of it. So, is it good to have commercial mixed in with residential? Of course when you start off building a city you tend to keep residential together in a big square because you have less money for hospitals and education buildings. According to my graph, R$ is around 500K, R$$ is around 600K and R$$$ is around 100K. -

I have already applied the HT fix. I got rid of all my bus stops. And I thought people didn't want to live next to industry. No, I don't seem to have this problem. All my commercial and industry seem to have workers commuting to them. -
Here http://www.simcitycentral.net/html/cap-relief-list.html it says the commercial/landmark effect is 80 over 28 tiles but here www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=Sungrye-Mun_%28DLC%29 it says it's only 30 over 18 tiles. Which one is correct?

Thanks.

Why did no one say that before?? -
Tutorial: Applying the I-HT Bug-Fix correctly
Grayham replied to cogeo's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I don't think the HT fix has worked for me because even after more than a year of game time, the numbers leaving the city are more or less still the same. -
I have a large square city with residential zones situated roughly in the centre. I have two neighbouring cities on its western edge with dirty/manufacturing industry, with road, rail and monorail links. Some of the more eastern residential areas keep choosing to work in the neighbouring cities, and even using the monorail they have a long commute time, often too long which makes the buildings abandoned. Solutions? PS. I do use the NAM.

Commute times to neighbouring cities

I don't think the HT fix has worked because even after more than a year of game time, the numbers leaving the city are more or less still the same. And I've tried pausing. Actually, maybe it's because I haven't put the z_IH_census_10_78_12.dat file in the plugins folder (the instructions on the other thread didn't specify this) I'll do it now and see if that works. EDIT: No that hasn't worked either (after 1 year and pausing) -

So you have to pause? How long for? -

I've just done the Dat packer thing. How long (in game time) should it take for the fix to work and how will I know when? -

OK, it's just you said files, implying that more than 1 might be altered. There are Simcity_2 , 3, 4 & 5 DAT files, what are they for? -

How do I know what files will get touched? Is simcity_1.dat the only file I need to backup? -

It meant exactly what I said: on the Jobs & Pop graph, the number of Industrial High Tech jobs dropped to zero. But the buildings didn't all become vacant. -

But don't you need some industry to generate commercial jobs? The problem I'm having is buildings keep springing up and then become abandoned due to commute time. -

I'm starting to find having to add all these mods is making things complicated. And this talk of messing around with game files is making me a little nervous (in case you can't tell, I'm not a programmer) I'm reading that thread and various people seemed to run into problems. Is this really the best thing to do? -

Have just downloaded and started up the game again, HT jobs have now dropped to zero on the charts! -

Tropod says he hasn't tested the file and says try it at your own risk. -
Does the Grand Railroad Station have park/landmark effect or CAP relief?
Grayham posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I looked it up here http://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=Grand_Railroad_Stationbut it doesn't mention it, yet in the game it says it "provides a boost to commercial and residential demand". I have tried Googling but haven't a proper answer. -

How do I get exact figures for each income/job class? My city has 471,709 total commercial jobs and 73,887 total industrial jobs (population 867,895) I didn't know about the I-HT bug so I guess that's a no. The only changes I've made to the game are downloaded the NAM and the official SKU2 patch. It's hard to tell (clicking on the neighbourhood connections with the transport query tools gives you a big web of arrows), but I think it may be more R$$$. 29,162 people commute to the other large tile city and 30,035 people commute to the medium tile city.
