  1. What are you reading?

I initially read the Silmarillion in High School after reading the trilogy. It can be pretty... dense. I didn't find it terribly interesting overall, but I still feel compelled to give it another chance.
  2. What are you reading?

Finished reading Iain Banks' Hydrogen Sonata. Chaotic, but well-executed. Funny, in the way that only Banks is. I expected a pretty massive twist regarding Eglyle Parinherm, but it never came... Ah well, off to re-read the Silmarillion, Hobbit, and LotR Trilogy.
  3. First Person Shooters

I play a lot of shooters. 412 hours in BF3, 300 plus in BC2... ArmA, CoD, every Halo save Wars, Planetside, Far Cry 3... The list goes pretty far back. I played my fair share of Call of Duty before Modern Warfare and after, but I can't stomach arcade shooters much anymore. There's no teamwork and little strategy involved. Even the dinkiest ArmA mission is more enjoyable. I still hop into BF3 from time to time since it's easy to get in a round and shut off my brain, letting instinct take over. I play a pretty wide selection of other games as well, like Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, GW2, Elder Scrolls stuff... There's just something about the shooter genre that I enjoy. The competition between players and testing your responses when you barely have time to think are appealing to me. And when you have a few friends on VOIP -for example- providing close air support... it can be a special thing. There's a certain camaraderie doing that sort of thing with people you know and trust. Can make for some hilarious emergent gameplay as well.
  4. Cloud Based Game?

After crashing in BF3, Origin asks whether you want to use the local or remote save and provides a time/date for the files.
  5. There is no way to answer your question at this point. We can only speculate. I read that mods will not be supported on release. I don't remember a source, but this is a likely reason why. It all depends on implementation. They said they want to support modding and it is possible to work with their system. Cosmetic mods and buildings that do not generate money and function as existing structures do would be possible in theory, but you need limits to keep the integrity and balance of the system. Rolling mods into savegames to share with friends is tricky because all that data would cost bandwidth. You'd almost surely have to manually coordinate that.
  6. Sims are dayflies?

Is there any indication that there is a functionality issue here? If a sim wakes up and goes to work, I'm not concerned if it was an identical sim as yesterday. Just because their behavior isn't long-term doesn't mean their actions are not going to be appropriate.
  7. Cloud Based Game?

Origin Cloud functionality in other games saves both remotely and locally.
  8. Ninja status update.

  9. It's downtown Tampa. About 4 hours southwest of Jax.

  11. I live like a mile or so from the picture in your background :O

  12. TRON

Listening to DEREZZED by DAFT PUNK and wishing I could find some friends to watch this with. :
  13. Can you solve the Rubik's Cube ...?

I need to dig mine out from wherever it's hiding. I can get two layers done pretty quickly (30 seconds?), but the final layer always gives me fits.
  14. Anno 1404: Dawn of Discovery

    I love this game.
  15. Simtropolis Steam Community Group

Nobody is ever online. Why can't SimCity players share my enjoyment of shooters?
