  1. There's nothing quite like coming home after a long vacation.

  2. Ask a forumer anything...

I don't think so. There would be no practical reason for us to do so, unless we somehow found a way to make interstellar travel possible. Mars is the closest and most viable planet for us to live on in the Solar System, and that's only if we have to. What do you think is more important for us as humans: conserving resources and controlling growth so that Earth will remain habitable for as long as possible, or preparing for the colonization of other planets for people in the future?

  9. Questions before buying

I can also vouch for the game being worth the buy. Cities Skylines is loads of fun, whether you're a city building veteran or new to the genre. If you enjoyed SC2013, you will probably enjoy CS as well. The core gameplay (building roads, zoning, providing utilities and services, etc.) is similar, but CS offers more freedom and depth because of the larger maps, ability to control density, more expansive transportation options, improved simulation, and of course, the modding capabilities. Visually, SC had more colorful and detailed models, but CS looks more realistic. I would compare playing SC to playing with a toy city set - everything is pretty, but it's limiting and simplistic. In contrast, Skylines feels more like you're actually controlling a real city with real people. It also has its flaws, but overall, I think it's far more detailed and true to city simulation than SimCity'13. CS provides over twice the amount of content and possibilities for half the price (considering launch prices) than SC. As far as beginning mods go, I would recommend City Vitals Watch, which adds a menu to quickly check important city stats, Tree Brush, which allows you to cover larger areas with trees, and Automatic Bulldoze, which automatically removes abandoned and burned buildings. None of these are necessary, but I find them very helpful. There are achievements through Steam, but they don't really guide you. The game does, however, have certain city stages that you progress through as you increase your population. Unless you're using a mod that unlocks everything, you gain new buildings, city tiles and services when you reach the next population benchmark. This is sort of like a mission system, as it gives you a goal that you need to achieve, but it doesn't necessarily help you learn and it does limit you when you first start out. Like I said, though, there is a mod that provides you with everything at the beginning, and there are tons of other mods that allow you to customize your experience to your liking. Hope this helps! If you're interested in city simulation games, I'd go for it. Cities Skylines is one of the best.

  11. E3 2015

I only watched Nintendo's stuff, and I must say I was pretty disappointed. The highlight of the whole E3 experience for me was the Nintendo World Championships, which wasn't technically a part of their presentation. The Mario Maker round showed off a lot of cool new features which got me hyped for what they had in store for the Digital Event, but the other games just didn't do it for me. Granted, my hopes were too high, and it's hard to live up to the announcements of Zelda, OR/AS, Mario Maker, and Splatoon from last year's E3, but still, I think Nintendo had a good idea of what it's fans wanted to see, and they didn't deliver. Of the stuff that I wanted, we did get more on Star Fox (which looks good, but I have some concerns), way more on Mario Maker, a new Metroid game (but not in the form that I hoped), more on Woolly World (but nothing new, more like filler), DLC for Smash, and a translated trailer for Fire Emblem (which was nice, but didn't really show much that was new). In my opinion, Nintendo should have saved more of the news they revealed outside of the Digital Event, like Smash DLC and Mario Maker features, for the actual presentation, to preserve more of the hype. They also really needed to show more of the big games coming out in 2016, like Zelda and Fire Emblem. The Digital Event would have been much more exciting and fulfilling had they done so, but I digress.

  13. E3 2015

Aw, no Zelda? Why not? The developers delayed it to a 2016 release so they could continue to add new features as they come up with new ideas, and Nintendo has said they will only be showcasing 2015 games at E3. A Nintendo rep told IGN this: "As Mr. Aonuma announced, The Legend of Zelda game for Wii U is no longer targeted as a 2015 release. Rather than sticking to a specific schedule, the team wants to make this the most complete and the best game it can possibly be. The new launch timing has not yet been determined. Because we’d like to focus on developing the game, we aren’t planning on showing it at this year’s E3, where we will be highlighting games launching in 2015. We will let you know when we’re ready to share more specifics." I'm happy that the team is focusing on making the game the best it can be, but I wish they would at least give us another trailer or something at E3.
  14. E3 2015

All aboard the hype train! As usual, I only care about what Nintendo has to offer. I hope they do more Robot Chicken clips in their Digital Event like last year. Those were hilarious. Other things I would like to see: - GameCube games on Wii U Virtual Console - a new Metroid game - more on Mario Maker - more on Star Fox Wii U - additional DLC for Smash Bros. (stages, fighters, etc.) - a new Pokemon game - Super Mario Galaxy 3? - info on the successor to Club Nintendo - more on Yoshi's Woolly World More than any of the previous things, I wish Nintendo would reveal more about Zelda Wii U and Fire Emblem If, but it has already been stated that these games won't be presented at E3.

Looks waaay to complicated for the likes of me. I've been playing the Civ series for as long as I can remember and I still have much to learn and master.

  17. Splatoon

Splatoon is an upcoming (May 29th) third-person shooter game being developed by Nintendo for the Wii U. The game revolves around squid-like humanoid creatures, called "Inklings," who can shoot and paint ink, which they can then swim through, in order to cover terrain and defeat enemies. The game has two modes: a single-player campaign mode and an online/local battle mode. In the campaign, players take on an army of octopuses, called "Octarians," while platforming through various levels, solving puzzles and earning prizes along the way. In local battles (Battle Dojo), two players compete to pop the most balloons. The real focus of the game, though, is on the online battles. Turf War pits two teams of four players against each other, both trying to cover the most territory before time runs out. In Splat Zones, the goal is to keep designated areas under control by defending them from the enemy team's ink. More online modes will be added, among other features, in free updates after the game is released. Players can customize their Inkling's appearance and equip gear that improves certain stats. Furthermore, battling online earns points that allow players to level up and coins that can be used to buy things in the game's main hub, Inkopolis Plaza. Overall, Splatoon is a really unique shooter game with a colorful visual style and a lot of character. This is an old trailer from E3 2014, but I think it provides the best overview of what the gameplay is like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8L54s2m1dPs If you want to know more, Nintendo recently released a more in-depth analysis of the game in this video. Also, you could watch footage of the recent Splatoon Global Testfire or visit the game's website. Additionally, another online demo is happening this weekend on Saturday (5/23) from 3:00-4:00 pm PT. What do you think of the game?
  18. Splatoon

I just tried the game for the first time today during the demo. I couldn't get on for the first hour or so because of server problems, which apparently affected a lot of people, but that can be expected for a test run. Hopefully the issues will not pop up again when the game releases. I'm not very good at it yet, but it doesn't seem like it has a very steep learning curve. I think anyone could pick it up and master it with some practice. The battles are very fun and exciting, especially when the teams don't all use the ink roller. Anyone else try the demo?

  20. Should parents ever worry about Minecraft?

If the biggest (or at least big enough that you have to write an article about it) thing a parent has to worry about is a computer game, then they have it pretty easy. If a child is spending every waking moment of his or her free-time playing Minecraft, then the parents might have something to worry about. They could simply limit the amount of time that the child can spend on the computer if it gets to that point, but most likely he/she will eventually become bored of the game. If the concern is over what the child might encounter on servers (griefers, trolls, profanity and the like), then just set up a firewall that prevents joining servers or create a server with some of the child's friends. Really, the same stuff that happens online happens in the real world. They can't shelter their child from the facts of life. If the concern is that Minecraft is too violent or immoral or whatever, then the parents are clinically insane and should be immediately admitted to their local psychiatric ward. In the end, most sane parents should have nothing to worry about when it comes to Minecraft, so long as it doesn't consume the child. In my opinion, no activity is better or worse than any other, as long as it is not detrimental to the child's health and it forces them to think. One can benefit just as much from a good game than from a good book.

  22. Current teen lingo?

It's spelled "whoa." The word itself has been around for centuries, but it has only been used in the context of surprise or shock in fairly recent history. I haven't heard adults say it as much, but I wouldn't say it's teen lingo. According to Dictionary.com, the history of whoa is: "1620s, a cry to call attention from a distance, a variant of who. As a command to stop a horse, it is attested from 1843, a variant of ho. As an expression of delight or surprise (1980s) it has gradually superseded wow, which was very popular 1960s."
