  1. annoying phantom-esque glitch

No, never did. Actually, the problem exists on firefighters animations, train automata, cop animations, and construction automata, in ascending order. One time, I found a semitruck had got stuck on one of the industry-zoned streets. Had to exit out of 1 hour of zoning. I remember almost five years ago, I recall a piece of construction automata was stuck in the earth off on the very edges of the map (where the earth appears cut to show the soil). That was when I was on another machine WITHOUT plugins. I don't understand what's causing this to happen and I'm struck as to how so many (including you) have not seen this. It happened on more than one machine so it can't be just this computer I'm using. I have a feeling though this may have to do with this sort of OCD "extra-pay-attention syndrome-ish" thing that's got to me that makes me pay attention to every single detail. If you want to recreate it, The issue seems to occur when automata is viewable, after around a few minutes (mostly around an hour) of gameplay. Whenever a fire randomly occurs and firefighter need to be dispatched, chances are that's when the glitch will happen. Also, the issue occurs randomly when a piece of track that's layed out gets deleted while a train is running over it. Those are the two most common occurances. The rest is pure randomness. EDIT: Alright! After trial and error, I may have found how this glitch occurs for the firefighters. It happens when while a fire is happening and dispatch is racing over, zoom out as far as possible until the no cars can be seen on the road. When the truck starts hosing, zoom back in until you can see the firefighters, that would trigger the glitch. Here's some pics of my recreation:
  2. PEG Rock Mod fail

Most texture mods need to overlap an existing texture files, like the default ones. Since though this involves another custom texture mod, a workaround may be needed. For the rock mod, try taking it out of the subfolder and leave it in the plugins folder like this [Documents/Sim City 4/Plugins] instead of this [Documents/Sim City 4/Plugins/PEGPROD] Then, add a few z's to the front of the texture mod like this [zzz_(name of file)] What will happen then is the file should sink to the bottom of the list. The more z's means the more priority the file gets over the rest of the lot.
  3. annoying phantom-esque glitch

The animations stay. If I did save on a glitch, I tried any alternative I thought of to erase it, from plopping buildings to terraforming hills to hide them. My last resort is to wipe the city clean. I cannot remember how many cities I've blown up because of this
  4. Himeoka City (Part 2 - Small Snippets)

Towerdude: You would believe how many plopping click it took to build this. SimCity4IE: Thank you! Samerton: Thank you! tigeria: &Towerdude: Here's some stats I've gathered. Right now the natl. pop. is about 7-8 mil. Greater Sakura is 6 mil. The whole bleedin' country is stuffed in one place! Guibanez_: Thank you! This will be a relatively small update. It'll be just a few snippets of what I haven't put in the last update. With each passing update, I'm losing every bit of stamina to keep up. I'm right now working hard on Kagayaki City in the south as well as the airport near Himeoka. I have a good feeling I will come back to redoing Himeoka one day. (when my life ever gives me the chance). Oh yeah, and one more thing. While I was away, some snow went and covered the city... Ever since I heard of the new right-turn-lane I was like "yes!" but personally, I wished they kept the same one like the left-turn-version. 6. Glendale Airport Updated (Still Need Opinions and help)

I've tried making airports for my CJ for my existing cities, but i've found that the most realistic airports take HUGE amounts of space (and no, I'm am so not exaggerating this).  If Glendale Intl is meant to be a small airport, take tigerias advice and build a small terminal, and take some concrete in the middle off to even out the grey and greens.  It would work as a fabulous airport! However, if Glendale Airport is meant to be a very busy airport with international traffic flying through, I think it's best to erase this airport and start in another city nextdoor, preferably in a 2x2km or 4x4km city tile with lots of flat space.  Most realistic sim-airports could take up a whole entire city lot  In fact, some CJers just call their city tile after an airport.  In a sense, you could say it's not a city with an airport, it's an airport with a city! For the runways, if it'd be a small airport, your runways are perfectly fine (have a second runway in the middle might look nice too!). If it be a large airports, I'd say long parallel runways with some runways intersecting each other would look fantastic.  This thread might give some inspiration. I think it's the #1 thread for airport ideas on this forums.  I kept it on page 2 cuz there's some excellent examples of terminal road networks. https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=23&threadid=113989&STARTPAGE=2&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear Be patient and plan ahead.  Trust me, building a sim airport can be REAL logistical nightmare, but that doesn't mean it's impossible
  7. CTD out of the blue

not a problem and I agree. I've played the game since it first game out and CTD's are like the common cold of SC4. Whoever can find the cure deserves a virtual Nobel Prize.
  8. CTD out of the blue

I used to never care about forums, not because they're time consuming, but because once in a while a good-hearted, well meaning message to one person could be interpreted as a rude, sarcastic one to another. Much of the emotion factor is left out. It ends up being such a pain to host a thread. In your last post, I think I sensed arrogance (but since this is a text-only forum, I could be wrong) I've used to have an old account with simtrop some 3 years ago. I posted some messages and uploaded a few BATS. Left it dormant one year ago. Now I switched cuz I hated that godawful name. Besides, there's no way a human can handpick 800MB of plugins in just two months!!!!! Anyways, moving back to the subject: You asked for help, we're just trying to help out.

  10. CTD out of the blue

Not really, like one person said back on an old post, it's like dealing with 100 pennies vs 1 dollar. Here's a link on a 2009 discussion of the datpacker. Most found DP helped with loading times and CTDs. https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=104904 In this case, third party compression may be the solution. About the maintaining issue, like i said before, I find it best just to keep all your plugins in a backup folder (label them like "my current plugins") and when you like to add m. Copy your plugins into a cleaned plugins folder. Then datpack them in the plugins folder. Delete everything in the plugins folder except the "Plugins_Compressed" folder. Run the game. If you want to change something, delete the compressed file you want to change and and repeat the process. It only took me about 20 minutes of my time doing this and another 10 dealing with moving the zzzz's folders.

Give it a try and pack all your small files into a few big files. I remembered two years ago when I first got the NAM (it was about 16MB or so that time), I started getting my first CTD's. Almost thought of removing it. I thought of the idea when I tried to find out how the game stayed reliable without plugins. I realized the programmers stored all the core SC4 files by packing every lot into five massive DATs in the maxis folder, each about 100MBs in size, instead of hundreds of small DATs in a endless folder pile. They streamlined the process by clumping the data in one place. Right now, I have nearly 800MBs worth of plugins. Now I'm running on five 200 MB DAT files packed with Datpacker (all the unpacked files are wiped off the plugins folder and put on a backup) Played the game for 2+ hours and it ran seemlessly. Like you said about custom puzzle pieces, I'd just save the game before plopping. this method (sadly) wont save you from desktop death. Also, keep in mind, if you have plugins that have to overwrite other files (zzz_name files) then it's best not to datpack them and leave them in the front of the plugins folder.

  14. Is SimCity 4 Dead?

This game is far from it, and I'm not exaggerating that. If Sim City 4 is still sold on the shelves, it means there's still demand for it. Most PC games today rarely if ever get reshelved after two years on the market. Also, with how big the modding community is just for this one game, I don't think anyone would let it die. You could say though that the Sim City franchise is dying. I've played Sim City Societies and it's a nice game if you only want to play a simple, casual, 3D city builder. but for a dedicated sim city fan, it's a spit in the face.

joshriddle's on the money. I've had endless CTD's before but it seems that having lots of plugins running at one time is the main culprit of crashes. My solution to really cut down CTD's from happening is to backup all of you plugins in a separate folder on your hard-drive, CD, or flash-drive. Then in the plugins folder, pack all of your plugins into one folder. Run datpacker and pack all your BATS into one file. That way, the game would only have to read one large file instead of hundreds of small ones. The game doesn't have to do so many processes just to run itself. It doesn't have to be one huge file either. You could try organizing your folders (one for buildings, transit, etc) and datpack them. When you want to updates a file, just pull the original from your backup and replace it repacked into the plugins folder.

I don't know why the main point of Prop 19 is to "make money in a financial mess." The real issue we need to focus on is how we can stop the cartelling of illicit substances across the border. More people get killed smuggling it in that those who are really using it. Perhaps the US should beat them at their own game.

Himeoka City (Part 1) For those who haven't been looking in the CJ section daily, I've started a new CJ that supplements this CJ. It's no ordinary CJ, it's a News CJ, a CJ made in news format. This (fictional) news network will report on the happenings in this country, in every angle. The banner below will take you to the homepage, just like any ordinary website. Enjoy! Now lets start! About Himeoka City Himeoka is situated directly east to Sakura City, and is essentially an extension to the Greater Sakura Area. Historically an immigrant settlement, Himeoka was known in the 1950s as the place to live, caused by cheap land prices and vast space to the inlands. During a 1960s to the 1980s, Himeoka in terms of size and economic power, was even greater than the capital. It was an economic powerhouse until the 1990s. Today, in the wake of a corrupt government, Himeoka spiraled into dilapidation and disrepair. At first glance, it doesn't seem like such a bad place, but take time to listen into RTA News, you'll see the really ugly side of this city. Quick Statistics -Population --City: 1,200,000 -Economy (City) --GDP: USD: USD 44.4 billion --Per Capita: USD 37,000 *Since last update -Akamatsu Shopping District- and -Victoria Heights- Situated in the heart of Himeoka, Akamatsu is a massive shopping-only district that accolates nearly 1/4 of the entire city. Since the turn of the century, crime has become rife. It became one of the focuses as one of the key places involved in the human trafficking controversy back in Minami. This area is a definite "don't go". Victoria Heights is a collection of super-condos west of Akamatsu. It was formerly known for it's luxury high-rises, but since the spikes in crime, the district fell into a state of disrepair. Those who have the money to move moved, but others weren't so lucky. -Himeoka Convention Centre- HiCoCe One of the few meccas for anime and manga in the country. Similar to Comiket, HiCoCe is famous for running comic market gatherings. Unlike Comiket, it runs the gathering once every month for 3 days to ease congestion. As of 2010, HiCoCe is planned to be demolished in favor of a larger center. -Twin Spica Bldg.- Perhaps the only memorable thing in the city, the magnificent Twin Spica Building. In the night, it illuminates it's two adverts blindingly as drivers past by in awe. In this coldly consumer-driven country, such souless signs are considered art. An Overview... Alright, now I'm finally caught up. That's it for now. Thank you for reading!

In this case, Cal's able to legalize the use of marijuana for rec. purposes, thus repealing the state enforcement on banning marijuana. The feds on the other had still have the ability to prosecute drug users, as it crosses fed. law, but without the help of state enforcement, then it's really gonna suck for the feds. Basically, It's still technically illegal to use marijuana, but it's a d*mn sight easier to do it. The feds essentially "turn a blind eye" on small-time offenders and focus on the big-timers, or if the state DA decides to turns the offenders over to the feds. The only thing I can think of that can bar this legislation is if the court or S. court decides otherwise. (sigh) What a country we live in...
  22. California's Prop 19 discussion thread

I'm for it. My reason's not because it's safe (heck weed is worse than smoking itself) or it would make money (I'm sure Cali can make 10 times more $ with movies than weed) but it's because of what we have to learn from history. Prohibition in the 1920s taught us that we cannot illegalize anything. Personally, I can't stop fussing over how "moral activist" (particularly those from the more conservative wing) make the claim that government shouldn't be up in our business, yet they can banter on how government should jail us for years just for holding an ounce of ganja. Take a look at Amsterdam, they still don't fully legalize weed (sorry for spoiling the fun) but they give some extent of use to the so-called "coffee shops". They have a place where the cafe owners can monitor and regulate weed safely, giving weed users a social area, void of crack and meth users. No more do you have to scrounge around to find a shady crack-head dealer in the back alleys anymore. I'm for legalizing marijuana as it: -Allows weed smokers a safe environment to practice. -Prevents weed from becoming a gateway drug to hard drugs. -Prevents marijuana from being profitable to drug cartels (think Mexico and Juarez) We end up demeaning such a drug that gets more hype for what it's worth. If we can endure the cancer and car accidents cause by tobacco and alcohol, then it's somewhat hypocritical of us to be so touchy on marijuana.

Alright, that does it with comments, now I'm running a little behind so give time for this post. -Notices- Despite how ugly the page will look like, I've decided to move the comments section to the top of every update. Now anyone who commented can see their comments on the next update. Also, since about a week ago, my schedule has become more packed. Since I have to maintain a life of my own, I'll be updating less often that usual. Before I could update this page every 3-5 days, now it may be 1 to 2 weeks at best! Comments (From New CJ) Adrianor: Done! tepodon: Actually it's not a custom BAT of my own. It's the parliament for the SCJU Union. I have to say though, it's one of the best buildings I've ever seen! It's perfect for an island country like this! Here's the link for it. Skimbo: Thank you! tankman: I've asked this question too For three years I've tried fixing only to fail utterly. I know this is a game, but really this country has a mind of its own. If these "citizens" want to build 20 of the same buildings next to each other in a straight line, they'll do it. In a way, it ain't my country anymore. Here's a few random snippet of areas in the SFD. These will be elaborated on in their respective updates. -SHOPPING- Mitasu District Like Shinatama, Mitasu houses both stores and residetial housing due to Sakura's aimless zoning plans. Chuo Shopping District Chuo Centre: In the middle, the new Metroline Ground rail lines are finished and ready for use on launch day. RTA Headquarters: Current location of Radio-Television of Aoyama, the nation's state-run media network and largest Aoyaman broacasting network. It's also a major news provider. This network, along with some six other networks will handle the news updates on this CJ. Aoyama's media is extremely competitive, with every network fighting for the very few advertising cash left. Due to that, the news networks will do anything to get the most eye-opening stories to the screen. If you thought Fox News was bad, think again. -TRANSPORTATION- Nogizaka Crossway: Named after the first Prime Minister of Aoyama, Satoshi Nogizaka. E2 Expressway, Westbound (Top) Bumper to bumper traffic at 7:30 AM in Rush Hour. (Bottom) Mitasu E2 Toll Booth. Modeled after the Japanese expressway model, Aoyama's expressways are extremely advanced. However, construction of it brought massive public debt. With such a huge burden, the entire Seikoku network has now been written off to private corporations. Today, the expressway has become one of the world's most expensive motorways to drive on. Motorist are now charged by the kilometer, in addition to huge entrance and exit fees. A trip from the SFD to Saitama (about 8 kilometers) can cost as much as 350 Aoyaman yen ($15)!? (don't mind the boxy brown grass, I'm going to experiment with changing the BATs textures for the wall barriers one day) E3 Expressway, Northbound ATA Bullet train stationed at Parliament Park Station in Chuo. Thank you for reading! Please comment!
