SimCity Update: Straight Answers from Lucy
ArtemL replied to Districtopia's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
They're quite simple: 1. Don't buy EA games -- or any other games that violate your rules as a customer. No always-online DRM bs, no artifically high prices, no bells & whistles instead of the gameplay. 2. Buy and promote games from smaller studios and publishers that show respect to their customer and not yet succumbed to profit-squeezing mindset. They need your money, not EA. It is better to buy less but buy better. -
Discussion about City Tile Size
ArtemL replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Smaller and round are tiles for great works like regional airports. Cities are big and square and they are all of the same size.- 1,284 Replies

SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks

Interesting experiment indeed, but it would require too much micromanagement, so I afraid it's not gonna happen. -
Some industrial snapshots at Ocean Quigley's blog.

Another statistical view: the population map. (I can't insert the larger version for some technical reasons) Not very intuitive and easy-to-read, IMO, though it's more informative than standard density "heat" map.

I love how you are trying to argue about the gameplay experience of a game yet to be released.

But you never could. Not in earlier SimCities, nor in the new one. Each game had its limitations, whether they are "no curvy roads" and "bus stops the size of a house" or they are "tiny not adjacent cities" and "no subway". It can't realistically model the real city and it never shall for the sake of fun. It's a game, not a professional urban/traffic simulation software. You can't play with the latter. The real difference in the perception of the game limitations is that you're used to some of them after more than decade of playing, and to some you're not.

You don't have to re-buy the digital copy, that's the point of it. You just download and reinstall it whenever you like. If the internets are limited that might be a huge (and expensive) PITA, though.

Do people still use disks? I removed the CD-ROM drive from my PC three years ago and was never in need of it since. Don't cling with the past and just buy yourself a digital copy. Especially if you are not sure you can easily get a hard one.

Excellent point. The game for me was always about playing the city, and not making the satellite-like images of real world ones. Why copy something existing when you are given the tool to build something from scratch for yourself? Never ever used landmarks in my cities.

Lots of people will complain about virtually every feature of the game, whether it is present or absent. The game is different from too-much-beloved-and-used-to SC4, and the very fact of difference is vile. Gentlemen, start your whines.

SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks
ArtemL replied to alvinheriadi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Just one picture says it all: There are about forty cars on the most clogged street up front. That's people from just one or two blocks driving simultaneously, esp. if we assume two cars per family. Definitely a realistic scenario; that's why mass transit and car-free ideology exist. -
Well, why don't you send a CV to Maxis then? I'm sure such a smart guy will be a welcome addition to any game dev team.
