Park and tree demand, never enough, *Help!*
CyanideCloud replied to Xyris's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
What type of powerplants and garbage disposal does your city have? Coal and Oil PowerPlants create lots of pollution, so does the Incinerator. For Powerplants, I recomend using the Solar, Hydrogen, Nuclear and Natural gas plants (if you can afford it and unlock them). Chances are however, you will not be able to use those right away (Natural Gas will be the quickest to acquire the funds for). When you have to build a coal/oil plant, build it in 1 corner of your map (that way 1/4 of the pollution is ignored). This is also where you should zone for Dirty and Manufacturing industry. Place parks here to try to nullify the effects of the pollution (if this later get rebuilt as High Tech and you replace the polluting plant(s) with one with no pollution, you might want to delete these parks for realism). For garbage disposal, you will probably have to start out with a landfil, these go next to other dirty things. If you can, you will want to use a recycling center. MODS : For better nuclear plants, use: www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm For easy garbage disposal, use: www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm (both of those make for better garbage and powerplant management (and the Peg Garbage Chute is super cool!) -
Well, have you tried to fix it? Please report back.

Planned communities & building plopping
CyanideCloud replied to sicarim's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Originally posted by: Yonk If the desirability levels in the entire area are fairly uniform, and you limit the game to only one building style, I find that a lot of the exact same buildings are prone to popping up all at once. Sometimes, I end up with an entire stretch of newly-zoned street with all the exact same building because of this effect. It limits the amount of bulldozing I have to do to achieve uniformity, and should limit the amount you have to plop, since it can be difficult to keep them from abandoning. - Yonkquote> Hah, that's what I usually do. I usually use only the Euro Contemporary design. Identical buildings seem to appear most often with the 1x1 and 2x2 tile, btw. -
Sim City 4 Won't run after installing custom content
CyanideCloud replied to justinrpg's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I don't know if we have the same problem, but what happens to me is: When I close SC4, the window will close, but the process is still running. That might be what is happening to you. (When this happens, I can't run SC4 till I kill the Process). Just go into Task Manager, close the task, then start SC4. -
I might recommend copy/pasting your Region files that you have worked on to a backup folder and then reinstall SimCity 4. Then you can go to the STEX and go to my downloads and redownload all the plugins you had one at a time after each plugin install, go and check if everything is kosher.

If I were you, I would just build an island and put the airport there. that's what I did in a few of my cities with >30% water.

I have no clue what the Problem is, but I would love to know how you got that Data Window for looking at the funding/capacity for every building at one time. What plugin is it (or is a standard option and I'm just an idiot)?

Sims Decide Water is Lame after begging for water for months! What happened?
CyanideCloud posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I was just tending to my successful, financially stable city and my Sims ask for another water plant; I pick the Large Water Pump from the Utilities tab and plop it down. Then I Paused the game shortly thereafter to go agead and demolish the now obsolete Small Water Pumps, as the new one produced so much water, these were useless. I delete 'em, unpause game and for some reason none of the Sims are using water, they are complaining even more about the "lack" of water. I check the pipe connections and everything seems to be connected correctly, checked the water graph and I had plenty of water to go around. Then people started leaving the city en masse, screwing my budget over! No matter how I tried to solve the problem, people weren't using the water! I tried placing more water pumps, but to no avail, they just seemed to ignore them! How come my thirsty little Sims weren't using the brand new water facility I built them? Everything was connected properly, had electricity, water pipes everywhere, connected to every part of city! PICTURE LINK: My System Specs are: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit 4 Gigs of RAM NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT (with latest drivers) CPU @3.00 ghz (I think I overclocked it to 4.00 ghz, not sure the exact speed, but it is oc'd) I could really use some help here! Thanks for at least reading my post! -
Sims Decide Water is Lame after begging for water for months! What happened?

I didn't save after this happened so I can't take screenshots of it... If I gave you a screenshot of the water pipe system now, it would be much different from the system when the bug occured. Sorry about that. I can tell you though that right before I built the large water pump, everything was fine. When I built the Large Water Pump I Made sure everything was hooked up properly (pipes going through the entire lot). -
Can you get a recording? Also, try updating your drivers!

Finding the center of the city
CyanideCloud replied to jb2010's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Originally posted by: Tysons4 When you start your city (give it a name, mayor, and difficulty) the sims will shoot off fireworks from the exact center 4x4 area of the map... save yourself the headache and $$... just look for the fireworksquote> That's how I do it! Just put something in this location (I.E. a sign) to mark it and get building! -
Sims Decide Water is Lame after begging for water for months! What happened?
CyanideCloud replied to CyanideCloud's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Thanks to both of you! @parkers: No, I did not have either conservation ordinance on when this happened. I guess I should try rebuilding all the pipes. @ T Wrecks: I had the entire lot covered with pipes when this happened, so I doubt that was the issue. ------ I'll have to try rebuilding the water pipe system I suppose. (I saved a while before this happened, so I just want to make sure it doesn't happen again!)
