  3. No doubt ! I wonder when people suffer disasters, like Japan now, and everyone who try help provide medical care. But when people are in bad situation in a 'stabilized society', without disasters, most part of people don't care.
  4. Oh my God !!! I have seen Lawyers driving cabs because not find job here in Brazil... but when i see Toronto, i never imagined a Medic could be in this situation. Perhaps in other city, but a multicultural city with many immigrants like Toronto with a xenophobic organ? This is really bad.

  8. Er, huh? You lost me. How does that work exactly? Citizens pay taxes, a fixed value in %. No matter is you're poor or wealthy, you will pay the same in % than another citizen. And the taxes cover all medic care to all people who is registered like citizen. ( just don't cover some equipments uses or services not owned buy public hospitals.) No exists a Robin Hood system...

  11. If you was a Doctor, where you wish work: USA or Canada? If you are a patient, i'm sure you want be in Canada... If i'm was a Doctor, i want work in Canada too... Not do all work, or search cheaper solutions to my patients can be frustrating. Just the incurable diseases, at least allow we do the best as we can. Americans spend a lot of money in private medical care, i really can't understand why they think an universal coverage its going to make they spend more... Just the private money moves the medicine ?
  12. I promise, my picture will be there soon...

  13. American Politics

"Nothing is more liberal than a conservative. Nothing is more conservative than a liberal." Just remembering story class. And about the universities: Here in Brazil, the Federal Universities its ALL FREE !!!! If you don't trust in public elementary and high school education, and study by yourself, you does well. But, we need just a test ( hard, very hard) to enter in the university. And it's all free, and good. I know, its not so equipped like an american university, but if you study English and take high scores, you can graduate with international baccalaureate in other country (maybe USA) paid by government and other educational foundations. Some Brazilians have more chance to study in good american universities than most part of Americans. Globalization...

Unfortunately, treating houses as if they're an "investment" is what got us into the economic mess we're in. A house is not stock in a company, but many people treated it like that and then look what happened. I read an article a couple of weeks ago where this guy said he wanted to buy a condo and live in it for a couple of years, make some money and go somewhere else. People still haven't learned. It's obscene the way some people think about property ownership. Also, remember that the house really isn't yours until you've actually finished paying for it. The bank that facilitated the loan is really the owner until you pay back the loan they gave you. This can take as much as 30 years with some loans. Why do these loans take so long to be paid off? Well, the banks need to make money off you in interest, but also so your money (taxes) can stay in the community long enough to be beneficial to the community (schools, services, etc.). So it's really a long term investment in the neighborhood/municipality you buy property in. What happens when you lose your job and you can't make the mortgage payments? Foreclosure, where you end up with nothing. Not even your initial deposit. THAT is far more traumatic than knowing your rent is purely an expense. Cities need laws to limit the number of proprieties of citizens and corporations. I know, that will be considered a dead of freedom, but that stuff its inflationary. In Brazil the houses prices in medium cities ( 100k - 500k citizens ) has grown up stupidly in last five years. The renting prices high approximately 45% per year ! And companies build more and more packed apartments ( just stupid 60m2 ! ). If continues that, the situation of our cities will be worst than China... And we have a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot of flat land unoccupied, but didn't grow because need high infrastructure ( streets, avenues, parks, bus stops), and most part of mayors prefer to spraw in developed places. (Here are not a Amazon rainforest, we don't have environmental trouble to expand cities.)
  15. Consumerism

Maybe the cars have not selling good, they are loosing profit to not come in deficit. But the car industry continue to have high profit, the car commerce chain is really over priced. Maybe in next ten years the gas and steel prices turn the situation hard... I see not trouble about prices, but how keep people poor (or paying high over prices) exclude some essential services, which could help to save money. Its a bit confusing, but i will try to explain. I'm going to compare with the Brazilian Automotive Industry. We have the one of the highest tax to industry in planet. Everything in industry chain pay taxes, since the ox in farm, to the leader in car seat. We don't have Euro n-cap and not similar to that here. And public transportation, forget it. But that trouble turn worst when the Big and Fat Industry Baron want to profit more and more. Studies from universities says a car could be selled here about ( i will convert the prices to US Dollars) US$ 6.500 and with very profitable margin. But we pay about 18.000 in a stupid 1000cc car, with nothing inside, just the mp3 radio and the A/C. The taxes and fees in one year to car owners is approximatively 4.000 dollars !!!! How we can buy a car and pay that ???? We have no Car Shredders, and the steel prices here are 30% more cheaper as in USA. People continue to buying that, and because lowest quality cars, poor people drive junk cars. Corolla costs 28.000 dollars, and the taxes are stupid, just riches can buy a new one. Ok, the taxes are high, are the government guilty ? No ! The car companies continue to offer just low quality cars over priced to keep the profits, and because other companies have no money to grow, we have no options. We are loosing money: and wasting our resources !!! How steel we are loosing when a car in 4 year is a junk ?? How many people pay more for autopieces, and how many government pay to extract more and more iron from our soil ?? For economists, we are good, expanding the economy. I wonder when i see all money which turn us the 8th largest economy, wasted in a old profitable commerce chain, keeping people poor, not enriching us. Sorry about my English mistakes.
  16. Your Simtropolis Generation

I joined in 2009. but just to download in STEX. I start to be an active member in jan 2010. Yeah, i'm not so old here. What is the currently ST version ?
  17. Simtropolis have a cultural diversity, people from all continents are here. Could the simtropolis developers make a Census , maybe year-by-year, just making a poll, to discovery the place and the mother language of users. Isnt so usual, because the in simtropolis everybody understand English, but i think isn't so hard to do the Census and a lot of people have curiosity about that. =] Ps: Sorry about english errors, I'm Brazilian living in Canada, I'm not write in English so well yet.
  18. Idea : Simtropolis Census

Brazil have 190 millions of people, France 70 million. We have sufficient technology to have more internet users in simtropolis than France. That not a surprise for me. But I understood what your comment means.

  24. Farms and Population

Maybe in the SC5... For me a real economy simulator is the fault of sc4. The ideal is a industry grow based in population needs. For example, in a large farming area, some truck and tractor dealers grow. WIth the dealres, some city near grow a factory of the trucks and tractors. In Huge cities, the center with many of employees and high-rise offices, grow some dinners and restaurants to lunch hour. In movemented inter-city roads, grow gas station. And, etc... A real economy simulator could make cities apearance more realistic.
  25. Sprawl, friend or foe ?

I'm 18 and prefer live un Suburb. It's a mistake rotule suburban with familiar and mature living style, and apartment life a young lifestyle. I live in a 300,000 habitants good town in Brazil. A var is necessary to live here, no one want go to mall in that bad public transport. (here is not Rio, have quite poor people, but no favela and no drugs war). I lived in apartments twice, once in Salvador, 3rd major city in my country. That sucks. A luxury apartment in front to the sea bay ( called bay of all saints ). The skyline is amazing. But, now i think i can live better. When i'm bored, i call my frieds, get the car and go. Its simple, the traffic sucks only in rush hour, in the night its a 'sunday driving'. 'People need people' - YEah, when i lived in apartment i meet just 2 or 3 neighboors, now i meet the same. haha But i think in suburban lifestyle you could know you neighboors better, you find then when you are cutting the grass, when you coopering, or when you are going to buy bread. In aparment life, people prefer still in your computers, in facebook and chatting with your friend in other side of city. Quite neighboors never said anything when met me. I like big cities, apartment life is confortable, but you need focus to keep a 'friendly guy'. I have friends who love live in apartments, but i think i can be a cool and youg guy living in suburb too. I will move to Toronto soon, but i wanna live in Mississauga; no matter if I net drive more than half hour to work, or spend 200 dollars in gas ,its a price i'm disposed to pay. Sorry about my English mistakes guys.
