Also, the sign that informs you that the speed limit no longer applies takes the appearance of a circle with a black out line with three black slashes. In any case though, you can't really go above 130kph anyway because of traffic. What's suprising is that you're less likely to die on an autobahn then on another roadway, such as a Bundesstra

Yeah, the German Autobahns have no general speed limit UNLESS you see speed limit signs, usually in an urban area. There is a RECCOMMENDED (not mandatory) speed of 130kp/h (80mph), but you can go at whatever speed you want as long as you don't drive recklessly.
