The Case for Scottish Independence
joelyboy911 replied to clarkjordan12345's topic in Current Events
Well, I am a New Zealander, a lover of the British Empire, and a skeptic of seperatist movements. I'd like to discuss your assertion that Scotland could be the 6th richest country on earth. This is interesting, as I presume this argument is perpetuated in order to convince people of low socio-economic groups that they will be better off when Scotland is seperate from England. Well, it can hardly be true. In the oil-rich countries you mentioned, drilling of oil is controlled by wealthy royal families, which has caused marked inequality in those regions. Norway is a possible exception, however their wealth is derived from other sources than oil alone. Drilling on the Brent oilfield (which is reaching its twilight years anyway) is controlled by Shell (Royal Dutch Shell, to be precise) so most of the economic benefit from the drilling does not flow to people in Scotland or the UK at all. Yes, there are license fees to be gained, but these are not a long-term source of income. And given that the London government is really holding all the cards here, they really aren't at any obligation to hand over the oilfields to the Scots at all, are they? (Having reflected on this, there are probably international laws on Exclusive Economic Zones that apply - but it doesn't change the fact that the UK central govt is holding all the cards.) You mention that there are 500,000 children living in poverty - statistics similar to this are bandied about in New Zealand all the time too. I don't want to sound unsympathetic, I understand life is harder, but it is not real poverty. Poverty in my eyes is subsistence, sickness and starvation. Ie. trying to scrape a living out of the barren earth. We don't have that in the Western World, where there is State Welfare, universal education, and public health. Everyone has opportunity. Unlike some of those wealthy countries you mentioned, another reason to not want to be like them. The fact is that the number of children in poverty is a red herring to this argument, as they are party to the same Social Security availability as people in the rest of the UK. I doubt that, in the long term, Scotland would any better take care of its vulnerable than does Britain now. They only way they can (sustainably) is by increasing tax, which would result in a mass exodus of business back to England. I also really don't think that 50% +1 should be sufficient to decide such a major issue. I think 2/3 or 3/4 is more appropriate for this sort of forever decision. The vast majority of Scots need to agree for it to be a sustainable decision. I also suspect, from what I know of the Scots, that there would be a big regional component in the vote, what happens when all the Highlanders but none of the Borders want to secede? These are all factors that should be considered. 300 years is a hell of a long time. That's a very new-world perspective, I know, but that's twice the length of New Zealand's entire history. Remember that James I of England was first James VI of Scotland - in a way, the Scots started the whole thing! One thing I do think about the UK is that it would be better if it were restructured. The system is complicated and a bit messy. I think England should be given a devolved parliament, so that Westminster functions as a federal government with England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland function as states of a union. I'm probably oversimplifying it, but I understand that Westminster makes laws that only apply to England (those that are decided elsewhere by the devolved bodies) but that members from the other parts of the Union are allowed to vote. I know that's not really relevant to Scottish independence, but perhaps if the countries of the UK had a more matching position, it would be fairer. I think it is a decision for the people, but don't take it lightly. Having said all that, if the people of Scotland (and it does have to be a big majority) really care about this, I hope Westminster will allow it. Think it through objectively, and be prepared to face the wild world alone, if that's the decision you take. -
Ushuaia - Malvinas Argentinas International Airport IATA: USH ICAO: SAWH Pretty sure... I like this game a lot! Great idea, wish I'd found it sooner!

I like the idea of this game. Maybe I can restart it with the: KC-767A (Boeing)

Don't listen too much to the complaints about the runway length, I implore you. Realistically, your runway wouldn't be long enough to land a large aircraft. However, this is a little irrelevant in the circumstances of a game. (and if we want to go into the technicalities, a runway built of that material is neither wide nor strong enough for large aircraft landings anyway - wide, strong, concrete runways have yet to be released). Having looked at the location and statistics of your city, I would echo the suggestion of the 737/A320 from JAL, Asiana and Korean. The A320 of Dragonair or China Southern would also fit well. I'd also suggest the A330 of Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific, as they are often used on Asian routes like this. For European carriers, you could have the A340s or 747s of Lufthansa and Air France, and the A330s of KLM or Aeroflot. It's also possible that the Pacific carriers like Air New Zealand or Qantas would fly a route like this (depending perhaps on the cultural connection). I would recommend too the 747s of United or Delta. It really depends if this is your city's primary airport or not. If you're not an aviation-fanatic like some of us, I understand all these numbers and 7this7 and A3that can be confusing. If you need links to the packs where you can find these aircraft, please say so and I will happily post them for you. (Just not right now, I'm nearly done on an assignment ). I have to say what you've done so far looks excellent.

Well... I'm not allowed out this weekend, so it looks like I'll be on BATting and Lotting duty (Have to babysit my siblings...). So I will look to complete the lotting of the A340-300 and -200, with the modding being completed too hopefully. So a release isn't too far off. As for the A320s, the models have gone through some improvements, and I am working on the set of the Americas. Meanwhile, Xander (WC_EEND), SCAG's resident Belgian is working on more of the European liveries, with Air France being completed already. On the side of the MD-80 project, KoV Liberty released these livery shots yesterday: Enjoy!

Yes, both are coming up!

Go easy on me, man! I can tell you I have started making them, so soon. However the A340-500s with jetways (all 4 of them, unfortunately) need to be re-rendered. The A340-300 and -200 however, will be sooner. I have a term break for two weeks after this week is over, so look out for them soon I guess. However I also have end of year examinations starting in about a month so revision is also going to be taking up a fair bit of my time.

We are one step ahead of you . No picture yet though, sorry. Hmm, I think I will have to make a new rule though... If I make your requested livery, you have to post a picture of it in the Show Us Your Airport thread. Seem fair?

Here's a picture of the Hawaiian 717 for you: As for the release, we will follow our regular procedure. There is no predicted timetable for release. Here is one more livery, this one by Xander (AKA WC_EEND). Enjoy!

Thanks for the comments everyone! The 757s released by SCAG were one of Adrian's projects, and they were also a rendering of a model from Flight Simulator which is no longer part of SCAG's plan. However, the AC Team has a 757, which is released in a prop pack with a few liveries. Delta is included, but US Airways is not as yet (the completed liveries are United, Delta, Northwest and Continental, plus the recent release of the new United livery, and British Airways. Some cargo liveries were also included. They can be found here, here and here. As there is also the AC Aircraft request thread in which some 757s have been requested, and Voltaire is working on all requests. When the thread reopens I would advise you to request US Airways. SCAG is sort of trying to minimise overlap between the two teams, thus we are mostly working on different aircraft types. For instance,SCAG is working on the A330/A340 and 777, while AC Team has the 787, 747 and A380. Although both teams have A320, (and SCAG might make 737 too) we figure these aircrafts are common enough that we aren't competing unnecessarily by duplicating them. I did the Qatar Airways A321, yes. I was going to include it in the same pack as the European A320, but perhaps I could make another pack of Africa/India/Middle-East? Otherwise, yes I can easily include the Cyprus livery. Thanks for your comments! (Just a side point, there's no need for the all capital letters. Thanks.) Thanks to everyone for the comments! Here's KoV Liberty's picture of the AirTran 717:

I think it's good. Are we talking AUT as in the Auckland University of Technology? I see you have done some other New Zealand stuff. Anyway, I like it. Pity I don't have (nor particularly do I want) the day/night mod. I will download anyway. Thanks for contributing, that's the most important thing. It could go well as a residential growable perhaps? I might have a go at modding it as such...

Thanks for the comments, and I hope you're enjoying the downloads! This is an absolutely fine place to make requests! I would be glad to make the Olympic A320 for inclusion in the European A320s pack. Yes, another team member, KoV Liberty, has started on the AirTran 717. I will show a picture of it soon!

It's ok! There are a lot of them, and I don't know how to operate the cleanitol dependency finder, so it's no hassle to me helping people out when they make a small oversight like that! But instead of reporting as broken, I always check the comments and threads both here at ST and at SC4D. Maybe don't report as broken unless you're sure

They are quite near the bottom of the airport menu (or low down at least). It sounds to me like the file you may be missing is the SCAG Dependency 2 because this contains parent cohorts that control the lot properties for these (and later) SCAG A320s. I hope this helps!

I am working on some Embraers, and Boeings, in fact! It's just that the airbusses were my first widebody project, but since I'm nearly done with them I can move right along after that! Check out my BAT thread to see the Embraers and Boeing/McDonnell-Douglas aircraft that we are working on!
