nybt-forum-threads NYC = NYBT General Talks
Parisian replied to Xyloxadoria's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
They made diagrams illustrating the average day in autumn and winter, the shadows in spring would be rather simillar to those from autumn and of course shadows in summer would be shortest. With such differences especially when you have less sunlight in winter, I don't think such diagram showing yearly average shadows would work. Not really worthy opponents, to me it's a little like a middle-aged man that tries to look like he's seventeen in order to compete with younger guys Paris? You should be informed.Take a look at what's happening in Paris architecturally speaking. But maybe you got confused between Paris and Rome. Rome unfortunately too have some new buildings that doesn't really fit in there... True ! I just wanted to point the fact that Paris as way more in common with London than Rome (although both get very old buildings). It's just the fact that most modern stuffs and high rises are located outside of the tourist areas. People should be more curious sometimes.- 104 Replies

@Jasoncw, Vlasky and PBGV, Thank you all for your precious advices and to push me the right way. I really appreciate it. I will have to convert most of my old models, at least the Tudors in 3ds Max. I can't (won't) lose it. Concerning the tutorial, I will try to look for french at least for basic things. But I think downloading it in english and by the way learning technicals terms in this language will permit to fit with all comments here and be able to understand them in the right sense. -

the side view of the gmax 425 Fifth Avenue. ps: PBGV which stripes are you talking about? The vertical ones in the real building seems to be like this on the pics I get and contain a yellow one in the middle... Enlight me. -

You are right concerning 3ds Max. Gmax is a very limited program to BAT. Possibilities we get with this is very low level compared to 3ds Max. But I hardly were able to make a least a wall with 3dMax. I don't understand anything in that program. Plus the fact that you get to connect different kind of thing concerning the texture. What I need in that is a serious tutorial. (in french as possible). I have downloaded the student version last year, but they ask me to get the licence after one year of try. And now, they refuse me to download it again considering I already got the trial version (I understood I was suppose to get the unlimited version with the student one). So what can I do? Another aspect is my very limited patience. 3ds Max needs to work and work and work. I want to work on it. But I don't have so much times to spend on this, I know this make me a very eager person. But I seriously need a good tutorial to learn fast; And well; I trust that now, if I m not using 3ds Max I will be out of time in this team. I understand it anyway. -

I wanted it so badly for a long time and decided to spend a lot of time last week end. Tudor City is also almost finished but I needed to think about another model, some fresh air at least. After hours of work, I obtained that : The 425 Fifth Avenue The base and the rooftop remain to be finished. This is the first ingame test -
Paul, your projects are amazing really. So realistic as usual. Don't know why I was dying for the CitySpire a long time ago. The fact to see it soon release for SC4 make me feel happy. Anyway, concerning what you said about the Times Square area and the dynamic pulsed by gigantic screens, you are right the way that without any movements from the huge street commercials, it is not very Times Square. Maybe creating very luminous commercials with flashy colors etc etc could be a little closer from the reality? In my opinion, 4 buildings are now reprensenting the times square area like no one else : 4 Times Square, Bertelsmann, the Times Square tower and the Morgan Stanley. I think we also miss the Bryant Park area building forrest such as One Bryant Park, 500 Fifth Avenue and the Verizon.

Btw, what a mess this tower. In my opinion this project is ruining the whole perspective of the south central park area. But that's just my point of view... Anyway, I will be more than happy to see this "not yet built" project becoming reality in SC4. Question : The one you are realizing is the final project? Or this one get all its chance to come?

Vlasky the Terrific got a terrific idea creating some terrific models and rendering our game more terrific than ever... :ppp AHah. What a wonderful project you get in here. Well done and can't wait to load this in my city -
No Paul, I prefer to let it to you because this building deserves a high quality render, like most of your models (and regarding the Midtown area you are realizing these days). Just If you do it, promise me to upload it on the stex By my side I prefer returning to smaller building, but more historic and older than the 50's style ones. (Tudor City these days, and South Central park in a second time).

Oh gosh Paul, the city spire is such an iconic tower in the Carnegie area. Thanks a lot for attacking it So you are working on all buildings in this area. Metropolitan tower, Cityspire... One57?

Yes you are right Paul! To me there's also a scale issue concerning the Woodstock. But in my opinion, the Woodstock is too large compared to the twins. I used the same windows scale than the 2 others buildings (in fact I have created the Woodstock in the Tudor tower's scene to get it right). But via google earth, it seems that Woodstock is as large as 2 "columns" in the other Tudor and Prospect buildings. While Woodstock is occupying almost 2 full tiles per 3, Tudor and Prospect are less than 1,5 tile X 3,8 (approx). Could you help me to point what is wrong? Concerning windows, the difference between the 3 buildings is that in both Tudor and Prospect, windows are like flat (for real) on buildings, while in the Woodstock, windows are set back. For instance if i merge the Prospect in the Woodstock scene, windows lines are matching to each other. -

@Seraf : Thank you very much for you nice word. It is with a lot of Joy and Happiness that Tudor and Prospect (Tudor Twins) announce a newcomer to enlarge the Tudor Family : The new baby's name : WOODSTOCK This is the first render I do with it. The top floors has to be elaborate, only main parts and details are here. The texture is also encountering some issues in specific parts. I will correct that asap (this Week end for sure). The right side chimney is also missing. I will add it in the same time than the rest of the top details. -

Thanks for your precious advices. I correct that asap and look for new windows textures. That's true that mine look a little too dark and too regulars too. I have to complete the base which is a sort of mix of Tudor style windows and stained glass windows. Soon a new update with these changes -

Hi everyone. Here a little update of The Tudor "fake twins". Prospect and Tudor Towers. I made some new stuffs in the roof of the prospect. I changed some stuffs too on windows and made the whole building a little thiner in the length way. I have completed the top of both of them. I think this is the way real ones are. I hardly find very close shots of the terrace details. But it seems correct like this. (Correct me if I m wrong ) I let you judge. -

Awww ... You are the pilar along with Darknono (btw others) these last months who made that team getting alive. The vagaries of everyday life make that members of that team go and come back most of the time. It seems you are one of those after having been present for months (and years). I m feeling ashamed about your personal state. The work you did is fabulous. It doesn't matter the result that team made this year. 2014, we will be back together and united topping the winner board Concerning 3d Max, yes I definetly need to learn BUT I hardly find time to learn it by my own, I m kind of busy these days and since a couple of months because of my professional life, and as an eager I want to BAT before leaning it under bat4max. :s We should plan and find a new way for that team with others... like a sort of renewal. what do u think? -

nybt-forum-threads NYC Trivia and Info Thread
Parisian replied to Xyloxadoria's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Great! Thank you for this post. I didn't know that this building was suppose to be higher. But contrary to T Wrecks, I prefer it to be that "short" because I hardly imagine a third "downtown" between Midtown and real Downtown. That would have been a little "too much". This is just my opinion. By my side I found something. The project has not been retained. But anyway, here the project of Rafael Vinoly for the 220 Central Park South (yes a new skyscraper will takes place). the link http://sunlab.co/?works=220-central-park-south PS : vlasky; do u want to release this one the Stex or it is just a part of your personal work? -

Happy New Year everyone. I ve been absent for few weeks. Just showing a little improvement at the Prospect Tower's basement and top (regarding google street view). The base lobby is still on hold. I will do it as soon as I have updated the same way the Tudor Tower (right one). Here pictures : Back Front -
This work is absolutely gorgeous. :D I m really into urban elements these days. And fountains are part of it. Bating buildings is good, but thank you very much for thinking to what also make New York : Fountains, monuments and statues. Btw, In my memory, someone was realizing the Bethesda Fountain (is that you?), I strictly don't remember and too lazy to check everyone's topics. :S Just thank you for this very promising fountain. ps : Your University Club is also a very well Bated building (texture and modeling)

I did that for my own use and decided to upload it. It is just a little lot to customize your sim avenues, bridges or tunnels entrances or whatever you want. I did that to ornate my Queensboro Bridge (Manhattan side) entrances. It is what I could call a "Gotham Style" monumental light. I precise I have been "inspired" by those at the entrance of the real Queensborobridge. This is absolutely not a reproduction. That the reason why I upload it under my own name and not the "NYBT". *Item plop cost : 50 000 *Landmark : Yes *Effect : Medium Wealth *Size : 1X1 *Nightlight : Yes Enjoy UPDATE 2013, Feb 22 /
