Hi everyone!
I'm in Central New Jersey, father of 1, and an IT analyst at a medical device company.
I wanted a break from WoW and played the SimCity Classic online at the EA website. Boy does this marketing technique work because within 2 days all my wonderful memories of ScS and SC2k came back. Yes at this point I was already sitting at my home office unwrapping a new copy of SC4-DE.
So 2 weeks later (and about 70 sim years), I've made my first cities and my latest is at 40k pop with tons of HighTech industries and unlocking a lot of the props (marina, Golf Course, etc.). I plan to add lots with props so I just want to make sure I don't get too many 'brownbags' (is that the term?). But have a problem...
I am stuck. No, not the Peanut Butter Point, but when it comes to traffic I'm horrible. I'm afraid to tear down buildings to build a rail (mono or El) and the same goes for highways. I see so many good people do this well I'm worried to screw it up. But right now my city is made up of a lot of one way streets and bus stops (only recently found out you don't need an end point bus stop so Im demoing some of these for parks to reduce pollution). So to ask for help (which I will probably do in a traffic solution/lot thread once I find one) I'm looking for some of these extravegant lots with fancy highways and such.
The other big concern is the fact that there's soooo much content on here, that I'm a little overwhelmed, heehee. Just a quick question too: some of the mods and plugins are from 2004 or even earlier. But do they still work 4 years later? NAM is one of the few I've seen updated recently.
In complete heaven: I'm itching like a forester allergic to poison ivy to try out SimMars.
I love and would make my dream city of European architecture, mega-malls, and commercial centers like the Costco/Ikea settings. Oh and a lot of ocean, would love to see an ocean liner going from one end of my map to the other heh. Oh, and highways, I love the sunken highways and have seen some of the tutorials to make them that ROCK!
My only advice for ST5.0 is to add a welcome panel to the home page with a 'start here' type link to the newb thread. That helped out a lot!
