I am from the UK. Almost without exception, hi rise buildings are terrible places to live. They were all built in the 50's, 60's and 70's with very poor construction methods and no planning how how they would fit into the community. They are unmaintained, and you will often find residents complaining of broken heating, lifts, water etc. When the opportunity presents itself the local government will buy one and blow it up. If that poll was taken in the UK, you would definitely get a very different result. Does anyone know of any other part of the world where tower blocks have the opposite of prestige?
Its a shame, because i think hi-rise residential has a place in inner city UK, it would make far better use of our most limited resource, land.
